Give Dylan Ruth a pass on the death penalty and it will still be used on black and brown people Mr. Hill. Dylan Roof do not need you to be an advocate for him he has plenty supporters. You just lost some of my respect Mr. Hill
The argument against the death penalty can be succinctly framed by the adage: it is better to let one guilty man go free than to execute an innocent person. The stakes are particularly high when considering that many innocent individuals, especially men of color, have been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death. The tragic cost of a wrongful execution cannot be measured, and the potential loss of an innocent life far outweighs the consequences of allowing a guilty person to serve a life sentence instead. Life imprisonment is a small price to pay for ensuring that the threat of death is removed from an innocent person, particularly in a system that has historically marginalized and targeted communities of color. Ending the death penalty as an option for the state is not only a logical position but also a just one. The systemic flaws within the criminal justice system, including racial bias and socio-economic disparities, highlight the moral imperative to abolish capital punishment. The risk of executing an innocent person is far too great, and the irreversible nature of the death penalty stands in stark contrast to the potential for rehabilitation and redemption offered by life sentences. Moreover, the historical context of countries like Germany, which abolished the death penalty in the wake of the Holocaust, reinforces the argument that a government lacking moral authority should not wield the power to take lives. Such historical reflections serve as a poignant reminder of the dangers associated with state-sanctioned killing, emphasizing the need for a more humane approach to justice. In the discussion with Riz, the acknowledgment that setting a person free could save lives can be expanded to advocate for the broader implications of abolishing the death penalty altogether. By focusing on rehabilitation instead of retribution, we create a system that prioritizes human dignity and the value of life. The removal of the death penalty not only prevents the execution of innocents but also fosters an environment where the cycle of violence is less likely to continue. In conclusion, the abolition of the death penalty is a rational and principled stance that prioritizes justice, protects innocent lives, and addresses the systemic issues within the criminal justice framework. It is a necessary step toward building a more equitable society that values every individual’s right to life and dignity.
I am against the death penalty just like Lamont Hill said there are far too many brothers being murdered by the death penalty and the only way to stop that is to end the death penalty all together lock that boy up for the rest of his life so that no more innocent Brothers will be murdered

I agree with Rizza 100%. I also like the fact that they were able to have a clean conversation without interrupting eachother or being disrespectful. This is how it should be.
I hear both arguments. Marc is more idealistic. Rizza is more realistic. The only rational argument in this case for him not to get the death penalty, is that the punishment is not severe enough. Meaning death helps him escape long term consequences. It gives him an out. To suffer in jail for a lifetime, and force him to recompensate the families through labor or something, would give more back to the families and societies he attempted to destroy.
When your best argument is "let's not do it because they're gonna target us with it" You already lost. They target us no matter what they do or don't do to yt people It's a fake "principaled" stance smh
The thing with liberals like Marc Lamont Hill is they ignore history and material conditions when they come to their various positions. Note how this guy makes it sound like the death penalty wasn't already disproportionally used against Black prisoners to begin with. Not to mention the ones who were innocent, infirm, mentally ill, etc. He won't even question who the legal system serves, what it's purpose is for, who controls it, and how it came to be in the first place. @@NotaPizzaGRL want you don't support it but you do now, what sense does that make, sounds to me just to weak to take an unpopular decision in this situation. That's called being waffler
The argument isn’t about Roof. It’s about the death penalty and how it is used against us more than any other race of people. Roof is the entry point to the conversation because his appeal was turned down.
It's quite simple, if the death penalty is off the legal books, innocent people won't be executed by the state. If 1 innocent person is saved from this this, sparing the "dylan roofs" to life sentences is absolutely worth it. Rizza is obviously speaking from his emotionalism, & I get it. Dr. Hill's position is definitely the more excellent way.

God, some of y'all don't have basic comprehension skills! How did MLH lose because of overwhelming evidence and admittance of guilt?! How... this was NEVER a debate about the INNOCENCE of Dylan Roof. the debate is whether or not the death penalty should be abolished.
Rizza stands on truth 💪🏿

🤔 Great point.

Not to mention the ones who were innocent, infirm, mentally ill, etc. He won't even question who the legal system serves, what it's purpose is for, who controls it, and how it came to be in the first place. Mark Lamont Hill is an absolute tool, and he loves it!
Is Marc being paid to lead a charge to keep Roof alive? I just don't get him?
The argument isn’t about Roof. It’s about the death penalty and how it is used against us more than any other race of people. Roof is the entry point to the conversation because his appeal was turned down.
I think using Roof to argue that death penalty is faulty and unjust is where Hill went wrong. 🤦🏽♀️
Not sure why most people did not pick up on this very valid point.
The thing is there is overwhelming evidence that Roof killed those people. Most Black people on death row are there without overwhelming evidence.
