    Start first with exceptionally light weight and perfect form. Moderate weight is the most I would use with this.

    This is exactly how I think I will add it into my shoulder days. I do the same with behind the neck pull downs, great warm up to get the socket ready for heavy weight later.

    Behind the neck (pull or push) only works with good mobility and I will agree that a lot of people that have been lifting for years will have trouble with this but I just don't agree that its the actual movement that is the issue. The issue is that if people overdevelop their front deltoids and do not do enough flexibility work with their chest and ribcage resulting in the inability to reach that far back without injury. I was one of these guys but I fixed my issue, now my shoulders feel great.

    I swear I've been doing a variation close to this in the gym for a while now and didn't know it had a name lol!
    Believe me this is a great test for all round shoulder development, the way I do it tho is full ROM, front to back then back to front - that's ONE rep. For 6 reps x 3 sets. Works out at 24 presses (12 front, 12 back) - Intense..
    BTW better to start off with 20kg Oly Bar then add as you progress, even if u OHP regular you WILL feel the burn!

    i read somewhere that behind the head OHPs put too much strain on the glenohumeral ligament. hence, since reading that i've stuck stuck strictly to standard OHP/military press/push press. thoughts omar?

    nice video omar,
    But I have 1 question,
    does you count as 1 rep just from pressing from chest to back, or do you count 1 rep as chest-back-chest = 1 ?

    Yo Omar - nice video - Jerry from Bios3training was saying that he doesn't do shoulder pressing he just does lateral raises which was best for that capped look (if I've misunderstood him someone please correct me). What do you think?

  • @dazzelya
    @dazzelya 11 років тому

    I tried it on Thursday and it was alright. I'll keep it in my regimen for a while to see what happens. I was wondering something though, how do you count the reps? A: Front-back-front is 1 or B: Every time you go over your head is counted as a rep. I'm guessing B but I would like to know for sure. :-)

  • @Japy456

    I actually use this as a warm up, primarily because I don't think you are suppose to load the shit out of this movement with tons of weight. It's nice, gets the blood flowing and warms up those shoulders.

    Tried this out today as a warm-up. Fuck. It was actually really intense. Huge pump. Fucked up my shoulder press routine afterwards tho. i recommend doing it just like Omar said, "About the 3rd or 4th exercise in" So you don't fuck up your compounds exercises in terms of fatigue

  • @Tr1xxRabbit

    How much weight? Always use just the bar? Is it more for a pump or should I go heavy

  • @dazzelya
    @dazzelya 11 років тому

    Interesting. I have my ohp day tomorrow so I'll try this out. Two questions though; why don't you lock out at the top (full ROM) and how heavy would you personally go on working sets? Bar only, or with some small plates?

    ..also I will testify gains made while doing this, so much so that I recently replaced my normal OHP with this as my compound shoulder exercise when I added weights - it's overkill otherwise :-)

  • @MarkAcompanado

    Should this be done with heavy weights or more on the lighter side?

  • @goobie969
    @goobie969 11 років тому

    Do you think this would be a good way to warm up the shoulders, or probably save it for the end after heavier sets? I was thinking about maybe doing 3x12-15 after all of my heavy 5x5's or 3x3's.

  • @bushidosoul1988
    @bushidosoul1988 11 років тому

    Thats why you do it with controllable weight. Rotator cuff is only a problem when going real heavy on a rotation exercise. You wont drop the weight on your head because it will be easy to controll, you could definitely react in time to move or predict you dropping it from fatigue... and why would you miss the placement on your back if youre staying tight? Maybe if you're flailing around like a drunkard, but not if you think about what you're doing bro

    • @Inflarez
      @Inflarez 11 років тому

      Breath in while resting the bar, out while performing the movement both backwards and forwards. Because the exercise has such a short eccentric phase you lack the proper time to take a breath in.
