Man, I did those today after seated presses and my shoulders were screaming from the shock. I'll keep these in my shoulder regime. ..Thanks for the up and up on these
Omar you are just getting better and better at what you are doing. Your videos are so goddamn informative and i enjoy watching them sooooo much. Never stop doing this! You are amazing.
This is exactly how I think I will add it into my shoulder days. I do the same with behind the neck pull downs, great warm up to get the socket ready for heavy weight later.
Behind the neck (pull or push) only works with good mobility and I will agree that a lot of people that have been lifting for years will have trouble with this but I just don't agree that its the actual movement that is the issue. The issue is that if people overdevelop their front deltoids and do not do enough flexibility work with their chest and ribcage resulting in the inability to reach that far back without injury. I was one of these guys but I fixed my issue, now my shoulders feel great.
I swear I've been doing a variation close to this in the gym for a while now and didn't know it had a name lol! Believe me this is a great test for all round shoulder development, the way I do it tho is full ROM, front to back then back to front - that's ONE rep. For 6 reps x 3 sets. Works out at 24 presses (12 front, 12 back) - Intense.. BTW better to start off with 20kg Oly Bar then add as you progress, even if u OHP regular you WILL feel the burn!
i read somewhere that behind the head OHPs put too much strain on the glenohumeral ligament. hence, since reading that i've stuck stuck strictly to standard OHP/military press/push press. thoughts omar?
Yo Omar - nice video - Jerry from Bios3training was saying that he doesn't do shoulder pressing he just does lateral raises which was best for that capped look (if I've misunderstood him someone please correct me). What do you think?
I tried it on Thursday and it was alright. I'll keep it in my regimen for a while to see what happens. I was wondering something though, how do you count the reps? A: Front-back-front is 1 or B: Every time you go over your head is counted as a rep. I'm guessing B but I would like to know for sure. :-)
I actually use this as a warm up, primarily because I don't think you are suppose to load the shit out of this movement with tons of weight. It's nice, gets the blood flowing and warms up those shoulders.
Tried this out today as a warm-up. Fuck. It was actually really intense. Huge pump. Fucked up my shoulder press routine afterwards tho. i recommend doing it just like Omar said, "About the 3rd or 4th exercise in" So you don't fuck up your compounds exercises in terms of fatigue
Interesting. I have my ohp day tomorrow so I'll try this out. Two questions though; why don't you lock out at the top (full ROM) and how heavy would you personally go on working sets? Bar only, or with some small plates?
I can tell just by looking at this movement that it would really hurt my shoulders. I've had these pains for a while so bad I can't over head press anymore how would I correct this?
..also I will testify gains made while doing this, so much so that I recently replaced my normal OHP with this as my compound shoulder exercise when I added weights - it's overkill otherwise :-)
Do you think this would be a good way to warm up the shoulders, or probably save it for the end after heavier sets? I was thinking about maybe doing 3x12-15 after all of my heavy 5x5's or 3x3's.
Thats why you do it with controllable weight. Rotator cuff is only a problem when going real heavy on a rotation exercise. You wont drop the weight on your head because it will be easy to controll, you could definitely react in time to move or predict you dropping it from fatigue... and why would you miss the placement on your back if youre staying tight? Maybe if you're flailing around like a drunkard, but not if you think about what you're doing bro
Breath in while resting the bar, out while performing the movement both backwards and forwards. Because the exercise has such a short eccentric phase you lack the proper time to take a breath in.
Man, I did those today after seated presses and my shoulders were screaming from the shock. I'll keep these in my shoulder regime. ..Thanks for the up and up on these
Favorite type of uploads right here... Instantly applicable and so obvious a purpose it makes you think WHY ARENT I DOING THIS ALREADY!?!? Thanks.
Omar you are just getting better and better at what you are doing. Your videos are so goddamn informative and i enjoy watching them sooooo much. Never stop doing this! You are amazing.
Start first with exceptionally light weight and perfect form. Moderate weight is the most I would use with this.
Wow, thank you for this! Tried it for the first time today, and it felt GREAT! Will surely help me get that last 5 lbs. to 225 OHP.
Actually a great video, holds up well!
tried these today.
realized very quickly i do not have the shoulder mobility i thought i did :(
gonna try this out today for my shoulder day. thanks in advance for the increase to my gains
Hey Alex, thanks for the new outro song, much appreciated!
One again, Omar! You're doing a great job and keep up the awesome work.
I can't believe im only finding out about this now
This is exactly how I think I will add it into my shoulder days. I do the same with behind the neck pull downs, great warm up to get the socket ready for heavy weight later.
Yes absolutely
Omar the Barbarian. You done it again Omar, great info!
Look at that bad-ass outro, bringing that hardcore action to the channel, awesome! I also like the video, gonna try it out this week!
LOVE the new outro with the hard metal and your WOOOOOOW.
Psychs me up haha. Nice man!
I have never seen or heard about this exercise. I'm definitely going to give it a try on my try shoulder day
Actually a mate of mine showed this exercise to me last week. I tried it out and it worked great :O way better than I expected it to.
Video quality looks awesome man, also definitely doing this exercise to compliment my OHP!
Hey man, my pleasure! I'm a big fan of yours. Just let me know if you ever want some more tunes. I'll be able to mix them better now as well!

Omar, I'm growing my hair out so I can have your ponytail strength. I think you and Samson are onto something.
These videos are perfect. Bigup O
I do it as a finisher to my shoulder workout. 50lb curl bar and I do 3 sets to failure. doesn't hurt at all.
I'm not Omar, but I agree with what you read. When I want to do behind the head, I do it seated and on a smith machine
Great exercise, I'm super setting with lateral raises 😊 you try it guys and you will feel it.
dude this looks VERY cool, gotta try it next time hitting the gym! THX dude!
Omar! Do a video on full body workouts!PLEASE!!
The new outro is sweet I like it
Very light.
Tried these over the weekend, definitely feel some stretch in the shoulder when pressing from behind the head, but felt great!
Great video man, I'm gonna use this in my shoulder workouts.
I've been doing it for a while and damn, its made my shoulder strength and size explode!
Man I have learned how to do way too many workouts correctly thanks to Omar
The new outro is fckin amazingly awesome !
awesome, another thing to add to my routine. thanks Omar!
Omar, could you do a video about behind the neck presses, your thoughts and how to do them correctly? I really like Klokov press though :)
I swear I've been doing a variation close to this in the gym for a while now and didn't know it had a name lol!

I found out about these while doing some wierd shoulder presses you cam really feel the muscle conttracting on these
Omar! Please give links to your other outro songs you used in the past, they are cool as fuck! Keep up the good work, bro ;)
i read somewhere that behind the head OHPs put too much strain on the glenohumeral ligament. hence, since reading that i've stuck stuck strictly to standard OHP/military press/push press. thoughts omar?
gonna try this thnx
diggin the new outro song
Any negative consequences in using this as as mobility exercise during warmups?
~Khaleef
nice video omar,
But I have 1 question,
does you count as 1 rep just from pressing from chest to back, or do you count 1 rep as chest-back-chest = 1 ?
That outro never gets old.
If that interferes with the movement, you need to do a Fletcher Christian to Batistuta turn. Says so in the safety book.
I love the outro song too btw!
Yo Omar - nice video - Jerry from Bios3training was saying that he doesn't do shoulder pressing he just does lateral raises which was best for that capped look (if I've misunderstood him someone please correct me). What do you think?

Old Omar is best Omar
What constitutes as a complete rep for this ? The backwards portion and the forward portion as 1 or would that be counted as 2?
I actually use this as a warm up, primarily because I don't think you are suppose to load the shit out of this movement with tons of weight. It's nice, gets the blood flowing and warms up those shoulders.
OMAR! great vid.
Suggestions for a 2nd movement in a shoulder workout?
OMAR NEEDS A TV CONTRACT FOR A GYM SHOW!
How much weight? Always use just the bar? Is it more for a pump or should I go heavy
Wanna try this. Is it safe to go heavy or keep it light with this workout?
Interesting. I have my ohp day tomorrow so I'll try this out. Two questions though; why don't you lock out at the top (full ROM) and how heavy would you personally go on working sets? Bar only, or with some small plates?
Omar, I have a ponytail too... can I move my head?
I can tell just by looking at this movement that it would really hurt my shoulders. I've had these pains for a while so bad I can't over head press anymore how would I correct this?
Absolutely Mr. Wayne. PS Nice profile pic
I already do this Omar.
Does that make me OG?
..also I will testify gains made while doing this, so much so that I recently replaced my normal OHP with this as my compound shoulder exercise when I added weights - it's overkill otherwise :-)
Should this be done with heavy weights or more on the lighter side?
Do you think this would be a good way to warm up the shoulders, or probably save it for the end after heavier sets? I was thinking about maybe doing 3x12-15 after all of my heavy 5x5's or 3x3's.
new camera and/or camera man?
Hey Omar what are your arm measurements?
Can this fix sticking points in the OHPs?
thanks bro
snatch and jerk best shoulder exercises for shoulder mobility
Can you use this as a warm up exercise?
Should you go pretty light with this?
Would this be good to do as a warmup before OHP?
You didn't add weight to it, so only barbell movement?
Is moving the bar back to your traps then forwards to your shoulders 1 rep or are they 2 separate reps?
Fucking love the new outro
Omar my shoulders are broad but lack front delt thickness will this help?
why is it only a half press? not locking out?
outro is dope
There's no link in the description for the song damn it.
what rep range would you use with these?
Do you add weight to this?
is this exercise possible when seated?
Never had shoulder problems but this hurts
thats clean form
yeah weight recommendation?
Its all about the ponytail bro. Savage
Man I got snap action on my shoulders I cant do this :'(( im taking joint pills tho :/
Are you supposed to start adding weight or is this just the bar?
how heavy should we go on these
New music = Badass
How heavy should you go?
Thats why you do it with controllable weight. Rotator cuff is only a problem when going real heavy on a rotation exercise. You wont drop the weight on your head because it will be easy to controll, you could definitely react in time to move or predict you dropping it from fatigue... and why would you miss the placement on your back if youre staying tight? Maybe if you're flailing around like a drunkard, but not if you think about what you're doing bro
Omar, how heavy should i do this? if my oph is only around 50 kg
Excelent move, the only thing that i am wondering about is how to breathe properly while doing this?
Breath in while resting the bar, out while performing the movement both backwards and forwards. Because the exercise has such a short eccentric phase you lack the proper time to take a breath in.
Breathe normally.
New outro music is dope as fuck!
how about the weight can go heavy on this?
Its not hard to be 20x better than Mike....
I got it from buff dudes too. great exercise.
