About this video:
One of the most common questions I get asked is; “What are the best rigs and tackle for catching barramundi in Northern Australia?”
So I thought I’d make a quick video at our local BCF store to demonstrate the kind of gear you’ll need to use, not only tackle barramundi, but all sorts of tropical speedsters up here in northern Australia - from Queensland, across the Northern Territory right across to Western Australia.
This gear will stand you in good stead when fishing tropical estuarine and inshore environments and make sure that trophy fish doesn’t get away.
Mate, awesome video. I learnt more in 12 minutes than my whole life. Barra here I come lol
Thanks Ryan for all your tips.👍
Thanks for the kind words Kate!
Cheers
The police were behind you thinking You were a masked robber with your sunnies tan. 😂
Gday mate i was in townsville back in the 80's early 90's i think the only tackle store was lounds or one of the only ones i have some mates who still live there and they tell me it has changed heaps maybe one day ill go back used to do a lot of fishing with a mate in the bohle river chasing muddies and grunter , i remember we were out of near the aims institute and cast through a school of spaniards not one taker they were massive anyway good video .
Thanks Ryan
Good tips Ryan love your work
Bailing Scaling and BBQ thanks mate.
Great video Ryan. Very informative!!
Thanks Jason
Ryan there are a couple of different sizes for that fin-nor bait teaser rod. What weight do you recommend for live baiting?? ?5-10kg or 8-12kg or even 12-15kg
8-12 for general estuary and barra and the bigger one for offshore. Cheers
Which is the best lure actually work for Barramundi fishing.
Jaya Raju lots of them work mate. My favourites are on our cheat sheet. www.ryanmoodyfishing.com/gear-and-tackle-selection-cheat-sheet-optin/
You forgot the classic lures mate and the traces because Barramundi have should be a sharp Gill plate which is known to cut off your line and trust me I've lost a lure because of that because I didn't put on a trays
Ethan Miller Yeah it’s not an exhaustive list of lures Barra will take. I’ve caught them on hundreds of different models. And I didn’t mention wire for Barra as it’s not something I use. But if it works for you then keep using it. Cheers
have you used kahle hooks on mulloway?looking for options after droppin lots after getting a run
tell me please how heavy the rod is? what should I choose to buy?: 4-7kg or 4-9kg thanks Teo

Love this rig! ur2.pl/2318 I hadn't fished in years, but I walk along the James River on my way home from work and wanted to see if perhaps maybe I could catch dinner along the way some nights. This setup easily fits into my backpack. Yesterday, was Day Two. I struck out on Day One, but wasn't surprised, given that the James is in flood right now.
Awesome
Ah poop i just spent over 300 bucks on these jigging rods with the smaller guides you mentioned which I was going to use for spinning and lure fishing. So I “” fish harder not smarter “”. Hahahahaha looks like I’m tying the FG instead of my favourite go to Albright knot
Ryan has an adaptation of the albright which he finds easier to tie than the FG and fits through the guides. We called it the RMF knot. It's on here somewhere.

Hi can i use a paternoster rig or a pulley rig to catch barramundi?
pekat susu yes.
Thanks boss
Great vid. Why don’t you use swivels?
I think we explain it here: ua-cam.com/video/xQK52P5ii04/v-deo.html A wind on leader system avoids the swivel getting hung up in your guides. You can also use a longer leader and reduce chance of breaking on snags. This system is the best to connect braid to monofilament line and using these simple tricks can be tied in seconds.
Could you recommend a spin combo for Barramundi
Might be something on here fir you Samuel. www.ryanmoodyfishing.com/gear-and-tackle-selection-cheat-sheet-optin/
