  • Are you getting tired of having your nose balloon up when you turn on your flaps. Here's a down and dirty solution for you to get smooth flap transitions. In Ethos 1.5 and higher, we'll use a free mix, rename it, select channel 2 (elevator) as output. Active Condition isn't always on, but the flaps switch position (mid and down) using the !Not command. Then we'll assign weights (somewhere between 20% to 30%). I also show you how to use a slider to set the value. Be sure to fly at least 3 mistakes high when testing this out, and don't be afraid to put the flaps in the retract position if it's not working out for you.
In Ethos 1.4.17 it's similar, if you're using negative values for flaps, change the weight down to 20%, if using positive values for flaps, change the weight up to 20%. If you're uncertain change both weight up and weight down by equal positive values such as 20% , 30%, or whatever works. Go to your outputs and verify, then check the flaps and elevators to ensure it's working (elevator needs to go down). Also confirm your elevator is still controllable by your right stick.

You’re guessing on the amount of flap comp, use flight mode, which are trimmable

I struggled with this and finally figured out why the elevator was not tracking the slow up and down from the flaps for me. The answer was ...you have to put the slow up/down in the flap mix not in the flap output. Now it works perfectly, also being able to use a pot for the elevator weight input is fantastic.

I think using flight modes will be a lot easier. Flight modes will allow the trim to be remembered between each flap setting from there can be easily re-trimmed versus guessing on the amount of compensation by using a mix.

Hey Steve, can you do this Flap to Elevator setup in flight modes. Looking for a way to do 3 positions, off, takeoff, landing. Can this be done using a premix? How would flight modes do this common setup?

I currently have flap/elevator compesation set up with trims in flight modes. That way I do not change cruise flight trim when I apply flaps. Will I need to change anything when I upgrade to 1.5?

In Europe we say: there exists many ways to Rome. Yours is a possible solution for this issue, you don't have to change it with Ethos 1.5. x , but you can if you like.

Hi Steve, I updated to Ethos 1.5.0 today and found out that all my current WAV. files no longer play! Like, Hi Rates, Low Rates, Engine off, etc. I found that you can't even get to the files on the radio in the special funtion anymore! Is this a bug in the system? Thanks for the help.

@@esskiahastings7974 see activation and source at 3.20 mins in video for elevator compensation. He has his flaps already set-up to come down slowly and by using the flaps as the source of the elevator compensation so the elevators come down slowly as well - see the video from 9 mins on where you can see it in the outputs. He has another video showing the initial set-up of the flaps - where he set the initial timings - slow down ...faster up . The video above mainly deals witht he elevator compnsation bit

My dear friend, you're such a cool pilot, but it would be much cooler to speak a little less and try to explain more serious, and mention the main bargain assigning an analog lever for adjusting the mixing percentage to the elevator. It's to have a variable rate and an easy adjustment during the flight. And after this setup you should delete this function again and replace the rate by an fixed value to prevent "unwanted" reactions. Thank you.
