I bought the bare purple board in August 2022 then aquired a non repairable A500+ (varta clock battery leakage had eaten many traces and sockets) = ideal donor candidate. An enjoyable build with a very satisfying product at the end.
*built to my requirements
*Tindie A500++ purple board
*Mouser and ebay new parts except for ECS chip set, some connectors, clock IC + crystal and pot, ceramic 68K CPU with unnecessary Heatsink to trigger the critics, floppy drive and a few other reused parts.
*New Purple keyboard PCB with new caps, transistors and resistors. Re used the other bits from donor.
*SinteckUK keyboard membrane
*A1200 .net keycaps
* Wayne Joyce painted A500+ case to a unique 'one of a kind' colour. Cheers mate, looks luscious.
*original lower RF shield chopped down to just the rear connector plate.
*A500++ badge from badgeman
*Meanwell PSU refurb.

Amiga floppy drives are extinct. You may have secondhand drive if you are willing to pay 100€ or more.
Rather bring it back with internal SSD and Flashable OS chip. Chips are much faster these days. Relying on floppy speeds today would be like watching a race between paint drying and your computer booting up. The only thing wrong with the old commodore product was they were managed by an idiot so they died on the vine. Had they the same backing that Macintosh or IBM computers had back then, they’d have a majority slice of the market today because they were so good at multi-tasking.
@@havocnchaos2182if you want to have a fast computer, buy a PC. This is a retro computer with retro speed and feel. That is the whole point.

I'm a fan of the floppy, too. I'd pay a premium for a modern iteration of the old drive, along the lines of the LS-120 drives.

Nice color, all though it was difficult to tell on the video cover image. I actually thought the case was just yellowed at first glance. Dark red, dark orange or dark purple would’ve also looked excellent.
Even an Atari ST guy like myself can admit that this is really neat...and omg these VU meters that's AMAZING ! :O GG

Very nice job! I'll be honest the yellow colour isn't for me for an Amiga, but you've done a lovely job of it with the pearlescent colour there. Love the Amiga music throughout too!

Good to see the 500 board has been updated. Mine has keyboard and ram issues but luckily got a very yellowed a600

What did you do with the donor board? The damage on it is relatively minor, I have seen far worse repaired.
There was trace damage under Agnus that I also repaired on the donor and I managed to get the kickstart image up, however there were graphical glitches that kind of suggested one of the ECS ICs were faulty OR one memory chip was bad or Further trace damage. I was simply spending more time on fault finding than I wanted to. Then the idea of a new PCB grew on me.
You don't expect an Amiga 500 Plus to look brand new and still have the Commodore logo with those adaptations! It's as if an agreement has been made with Commodore showing the B-52's and reverse engineering!

Question - can you build me one?? Still love the Amiga! Have 3 of these - 2 Pluses and a standard 500 - and a A600, too!
Not quite my cup of tea to be honest, but it is not hard to say that it is an excellent job still. And great to see that someone cares for the ECS chip set still. One little thing that really interested me was the VU meter to the left of the machine. Would it be possible to update the description with any details on that pretty please with sugar on top?

The biggest issue with these is the custom chips. If building these depletes the stocks of spares then ultimately it is counter-productive. For rebuilding an A500+ that's been destroyed by a leaking battery then the new PCBs are useful.
Yeah I only did it as the original pcb was kaputt. But plenty of A500+ kicking about before we all go fpga :) . All the best

Did you fix the garbage floppy drive?
Just serviced it, it is Still working lovely. I now have an external gotek that plugs into the external floppy drive port and then a switch to set it as df0. So that has reduced the need to always use the floppy drive. I will add a spitfire accelerator eventually, which has an ide port. Therefore, I plan to add an SD2IDE interface and load the SD card with workbench, utilites and whdload games. Or just put AmigaGamesSelector on the SD card. Which will virtually make the internal floppy drive redundant, apart from nostalgia floppy loading. But I love the floppy 💾 drive. It is an integral part of the Amiga.

Fresh pcb with a couple of design changes/fixes over the original, then new discrete and logic components. Original custom IC's used.
A great project for an AMIGA fan, if you have a dead A500+ because of clock battery leakage + corrosion. This replacement PCB can bring it back to life. Add a modern accelaror, RGB to hdmi, SD based hard drive etc. , if you wish.
