Excellent explanation. Most important is your simple presentation with a relaxed and smiling presentation.
Earlier (1991s) it was just FD1 on Capt side and FD2 on copilot side. Then the infamous Bangalore A320 crash happened in 1991 while executing a vor app. The F/0 forgot to set FD2 OFF on his side., which led ATHR to command IDLE thrust which was sadly realised very late and it crashed.
Later this new modification came 1FD2, -FD2, 1FD-, -FD-.
Sadly it took 90+ lives for this modification.
    Best wishes. 😊

In short if both FDs are not selected ON, the thrust will go to IDLE when the correct indication must be SPEED in the FMA column 1 ...when performing a VISUAL approach.

There are two FDs (Flight Directors) or Flight Director Systems for redundancy.
Each flight director computes and displays the proper pitch and bank angles required in order for the aircraft to follow a selected path i.e. the each flight director can compute and indicate the aircraft attitude required to attain and maintain a preselected flight condition as per the flight plan.
Note: Flight director guidance can be used in both manual flight and with the Autopilot engaged.
