Disney's Failed Ride Openings
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 кві 2022
- At Disneyland & Walt Disney World, the Disney Theme parks are always building new rides, attractions & brand-new lands. Lately, theme park fans have gotten used to having everything open all at once like with Pandora, Carsland or Toy Story Land, but now anytime Disney opens a new land in phases without a planned ride like Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, people are quick to deem it a “failure.” Dating as far back as the opening of Disneyland, there have been many projects over the years that were opened in “phases” for a variety of reasons like Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland with Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin & Disney MGM Studios with Star Tours. A lot of these quote on quote failed openings are smash hits today, so we’re gonna dive into the history of why these Disney rides were delayed and didn't open on time. So lets explore the stories of 3 Failed Openings at the Disney Theme Parks

I was at Disneyland last month when the scene in rise of the resistance at Star Wars land where the scene when Kylo Ren gets sucked out of the ship was not in the ride. Instead we got another scene. It’s really cool how Disney adapts to these kinds of situations.
Saw that two about three months ago in WDW, not a bad B version
Same thing happened yesterday
Same
Yes sometimes that effect had issues cause the animatronic is so complicated. So they have a back up. It’s the one with Kylo in his Tie fighter?
@@scottloessel6493 TIE Silencer, but yes
I like that while you're not doing top 10s much anymore, this little history or mini-doc style is edited basically in the exact same way. It still feels like tpmvids
Thank you so much! I never wanna lose the TPMvids touch while I explore and expand other styles of content so I’m glad to hear that
@@TPMvids tough call, i'd imagine you'd rather reformat your videos completely from scratch to not get so repetitive, have you thought about splitting everything to their own mini series so it's more organized? specifically animatronic malfunctions, that's how i discovered your channel and how i look you up when wanting more, i'd love that
@@vooshmoozik6185 *3 months later and no response*
@@ScofieldStudios it's ok, he could have read it and just had no response, i do that sometimes so i don't take it personally
galaxy’s edge still feels incomplete to me even with both rides open. i agree that the land is full of amazing detail but why build so many building facades and only two rides? i wouldn’t mind a kid’s ride or an immersive show. something more to make it feel more like a real land and less like a huge star wars promotion.
Take toon town, most is a facade, but always something you can physically do with it to make it fun and engaging
I think its missing a full on restaurant but thats about it imo. Idk what else they could add. The droid factory, cantina, savis workshop, and marketplace make it feel like a full on land imo thats no different than how tomorrowland or adventureland feel
A thrill ride maybe? Maybe a speeder bike one like Tron: Lightcycle Run
as someone who did the college program and was a showkeeper at hollywood studios, i couldn’t agree more. please guys if you see a cast member emptying trashcans out, don’t stand in front of them. i understand chewbacca’s exciting, but i beg of you.
@Galaxyfnaf And Dino Star Tours isn't in Galaxy's Edge, it doesn't count
What about Test Track? In the spring of ‘97 a sign displayed outside said “Opening Spring of 1997.” In September of that same year it still hadn’t opened but the sign still read “Opening Spring of 1997.” The sign still exists and it’s hidden away in the maintenance bay for the ride. 🤣
Then again, Tron and Guardians were delayed a year as well.
funny story, very neat
And look how Guardians turned out😂
Tron ended up being delayed by two, lol.
I was there in 1993 when Toontown opened and I remember seeing Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin being blocked off. I wouldn't get to ride it until 1994 after the ride officially opened. I almost feel like that year gave them time to work out the bugs on that ride.
Yeah i remember seeing Bugs on the wall
That ride breaks down sooooo much but it’s one of my top 10 favorite at DL. Hopefully this refurb will fix some issues.
@@GoetiaTV it does breakdown from time to time but definitely not nearly as often as Rise of the Resistance (which is more than likely the most notorious for breaking down), Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (probably the second most notorious and it is 10 years younger than Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin), Indiana Jones Adventure, and Radiator Springs Racers (while the breakdowns on this ride not as often nowadays, back during the ride's early years it was almost as bad as Rise of the Resistance).
@@spochysrandomnetwork2865 same…
Rise of the Resistance has it’s own Big Wow moment: when you turn the corner and you are traveling under a couple of ATATs.
I saw Star Wars when it came out in theaters originally. I grew up with it.
It put me in the movie,
I only visited Galaxy’s Edge after Rise was complete and running. I found the land to be pretty amazing. The first view of the Falcon was a definite Wow moment (as it is each time I see it). The ATAT room was another great WOW. But on balance the Land is more about shopping and concession but it is great atmosphere.
Of course my kids had the blue milk, lol.
However, I would wait the sometimes 90+ minutes for Rise. It is worth a Genie+ pass.
2:37 look at goofy dancing in the corner! He just has a look that says, “YAY”
See, what I heard about why Rise didn’t work was that whatever they plant under the floor that the trackless vehicles follow/read (idk if it’s wires or sensors or magnets or what) were put in upside down or in the wrong places, and they had to rip up the whole floor and replace the whole thing.
Interesting how we all hear different rumors.
I think it was not close enough for the vehicles to sense.
Galaxy's edge looks cool, but after having just gone to HS for the first time in 2018, it really sucks just how much content they closed just for that. I feel the same about WWOHP at Universal, but at least there's more to do there.
IM SORRY WUT
My favorite ride on the list is definitely Rise as it seems like an absolutely amazing ride. The queue looks amazing too
i love that i was watching old videos and got a notif for a new one right after!
Well that’s what I call perfect timing!
@@TPMvids PLEEEEEASE do a video on 10 hidden references and secrets in MuppetVision 3D!
I mean, Rise is the favorite. It’s amazing. But the hassle Disney put us through to ride it post-Virtual Queue is simply unacceptable.
Our family spent 3 days at Hollywood Studios with the virtual queue. We rode all 3 days.
We’re spent 3 days at Disneyland without the Virtual Queue. Day 1, it broke down 3 times while we were in line throughout the day. Day 2, we tried to rope drop it. But it was down, and no one told us until we got there. And it was down most of the day. Day 3, we tried to rope drop it again, broken down again.
Ultimately, we were in the standby line 8 different times, and we could never get on. We finally resorted to paying to ride. And as a family of 4, that’s a large chunk of cash to ride a single attraction.
But Disney got exactly what they wanted - more of my money. So the system is here to stay.
Rise of the Resistance: The Ride Experience is unlike anything we’ve ever done before, and it’s beyond incredible!!!
Rise of the Resistance: The Line Experience actually caused us to cancel our next Disney trip. We’re going to visit Universal instead.
This was kinda funny to read. Sorry that happened to you though. I know you'll enjoy universal just as much as I do though. Are you going to the one in Hollywood or Orlando?
@@Pop_Candyz Hopefully one and then the other! It was a frustrating experience, but it will make for a comical video later.
@@RideTheTeacups I've never been to the one in Hollywood, so there's not much I can say there. But Orlando is definitely an interesting case with Islands of Adventure being right next to Universal. Islands is definitely my favorite out of the two. I have 3 tips.
1. Try to eat at a less busy location. Not only does this save you from not doing rides, but it's less of a hassle. All the food locations in Toon Lagoon I recommend.
2. Definitely double check what ticket you're buying. Read through the details carefully. Don't wanna pay extra for something without noticing.
3. Definitely wear a hat. It gets way too hot and if you're standing in line after scorching heat, you'll be tired already.
@@Pop_Candyz Thanks so much!
The thing with removing the VQ, is unless it does break down, you're guaranteed to ride it. With VQ if you didn't get a pass the instant it was available, you were SOL for the rest of the day.
thank u tpm for always being consistent and and fun to watch
New Fantasyland opening in three sections was a huge missed opportunity to wow people with the sprawl of the expansion. The delay with the late change of Princess meet n greets to Seven Dwarves Mine Train really tripped up the land, and the decision to open Storybook Circus before Little Mermaid and Belle sections made this addition feel much smaller in scope than it really was.
My parents just surprised me with a trip to Disney and your videos are helping me sooooo much to prepare! Thank you so much!!
That's great! Hope you have fun!
Same! Have fun!
Also, I still think they could have done more with Galaxy's Edge but agree it feels more complete now with both attractions up and running.
For sure, especially since there was another ride planned as well
Feels empty
When I saw this notification I was like? WHAT?! It isn’t Sunday but TPM uploaded so that’s good!

I haven’t watch u in years! Ur my fav for rides! I went to universal studios for Christmas and that fast ride vid was super helpful!
I was 6 1/2 years old when Toontown first opened at Disneyland back in 1993. I was so excited to see that there was a whole new area opening up (and believe me, that excitement did return when it was announced that Galaxy's Edge would be coming to Disneyland in 2019). I remember my parents taking my sister and I that year so we could see the then-new land. I do also remember seeing that Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin was still being shown as Under Construction during our time there. We did return to the park again 1994 to go on the ride (heck, I even remember that ad for it and it was one of the best ads ever).
Thoughts on chicken?
Yes
Bussin
I like chickens as pets, not as food, also thank you for this very important question that everyone needs to answer😂
Going to Disney world in October and i’ve been binging your channel 😆😂 Love it and makes me more excited to be going!!
Always love seeing a video from TPMVIDS!
We definitely need more Roger Rabbit rides and attractions at all the Disney theme parks!
I could be having a horrible day, but then I see one of your videos pop up and it instantly turns my mood around! Love you TPM!
One of the first UA-camrs I’ve watched! Glad to see your still doing it!!!
I'm surprised that you picked today to post this awesome 📹 🎥! 😎 🆒️!!!
Sweeeeeet, I stumbled across you after my Defunctland delve ended... Good stuff
Another amazing video as always!
Love this channel awesome content!!
I love ur Disney videos, thanks for uploading this video.
It's funny to hear old descriptions of Hollywood Studios say it feels unfinished and like there's not enough to do....because that is still the feeling I got the last time I was there a few years go. It was the only park I did pretty much everything I wanted to do and had so much time left over before the light/firework show that I ended up just sitting down and taking a long break
Ooh a video on Friday I was not expecting this but yay!
These behind the scenes looks are always so fascinating to me.
Also ironic how the focused so heavily on building the Backlot first during the construction of MGM Studios when it never caught on and was the first to go.
Yeah, I went to Hollywood studios yesterday for my first time and rise of the resistance was closed for 3 hours and the wait time when it opened was way to long to wait for it
I love your channel!
Love the videos 🙃
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
Thank you!!
Same here!
Solid choices. If you end up doing another of these, you have to include Test Track. I was looking forward to that ride SO much in 1997 when I was a kid and ended up not riding until high school because it got delayed until 99.
Another more modern choice would be Rivers of Light. That show had quite a delay and interesting history… Keep up the good work!
The reason test track took so long the computer system and the Ride system were brand new at the time could only support up to four vehicles on ride path Without crashing the computer system
@@jZ0357 I’m well aware, but not everyone is.
Nice job TPM, I went to Disneyland at the end of 2019 and there was no rise of resistance. But It was still a great experience. 😀 Keep up the great work!
Your videos make my daughter light up with joy. She even knows your whole intro. I just wanna say thank you she has never been so happy until she has watched your videos.
Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin at Disneyland is one ☝️ of my favorite 🤩 rides.
I love your videos!!!!!
I love your videos!
Rise of the Resistance is by far my favorite,I went to Disneyland 2 days in a row for annual passholders pre opening and the second day was totally boring for me lol as much as my family and I love Star Wars,we went to WDW 2 months after and their land wasn't even open yet. We went back to WDW at the beginning of the next year and rode rise twice, the first time riding it I literally cried at how awesome the ride was. I didn't get a chance to ride it at Disneyland til this last December
I. WOCH. YOUR. VITELS
Love your videos 👍
Mary poppins ride at Epcot was meant to start construction and then start the opening here at Epcot
I was there opening weekend for ROTR at DL, but we weren’t able to snag a spot in the virtual queue. I can’t wait to go back!
I loved to go on Slinky Dog Dash and see the land being built while on the high parts!
Whenever TPM uploads my day is complete
Lmao you used my local news for the new cast bit about Star Wars and I was a little thrown off 😂
I already clicked on this dude cause i love Disney World 😏
Oh I’m new all right…
TO ALL YKUR NEW VIDEOSS ! I’ve been watching you for like 2 years :> I love your content and I love DINSEY - every time I go there I spot all the Easter eggs ^_
I. - spelled your wrong…
Recently I went to disneyland for the first time, and would like to currently remind everyone that these videos are so informative that I was pretty much a tour guide for my family. Thought it was funny.
TPM vids is my favorite Disney UA-cam channel with fails and other good stuff
these videos give me life
I remember being at the opening at Disney worlds Star Wars Galaxy Edge. It was super cool and I do remember hearing stuff about the ride. I never went on the Falcon ride. I never went on that one time it opened since it was very crowded but soon I went on the ride a few months later which and the ride was super cool.
I recently went on Rise of the Resistance and the wait was worth it
Once I rode the entire rise of the resistance but it broke down at the very end of the ride, and we could see the exit.
We got to redo the entire ride again 😂
love ur vids keep it up
Your voice sounds like Mr. Campbell from Close Enough and I'm diggin' it.
Nice video! TPM Videos!
I love your video I’m been your biggest fan scene your very first video
I was at MGM when Sta Trous was under construction but not open yet. No construction walls up. Indiana Jones was open but we didn't go. kind of normal to see rides not open yet. also there should be at least 10 items on this list.
I also went to toon town with out Rodger Rabbit being open yet. Did go to the Acme Factory. The Dip tank was not running.
Micky and Mini's rail way needs Oswald. IMO
I would say at the very least this list could add Pirates . I know Disney had many more rides that opened late.
Also Galaxy's edge could have maybe done a sort of War Time line. Have Star Wars characters from each ear walk threw on different hours of the day or different days of the week. If possible make the rides fit ANY time line by staying more veg though that could be harder to pull off.
I would also love to see more rides added to it even if it was a smaller ride. Like a speed bike ride or a sand crawler shop that drives around on a track.
Love the vids
Total Mandella effect on that Star Tours, I don't remember seeing it when I was a kid in the 90s when we went -in fact I vaguely remember an area near there that was very "Honey I shrunk the kids" with giant blades of grass over there [might be backlot tour I am thinking of but still] and then I don't remember when I went in 2010/2011 ever seeing it - and I have no photos of it being there despite having a lot of random photos all over since I was showing someone around. And yet I remember since like 2016 seeing it... weird.
Please make a video on the top 10 rides for teens at disney world and/or disney land!
Can you do fastest six flags rides and fastest rides of the us please also good job on the work
Since Toon Town is closed to make Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway, roger may be GONE or shorter.
I was at the Star Tours opening day at Disneyland.Took forever to get on lol!!
I remember going to ToonTown as a kid when it just opened, Roger Rabbit had the longest wait time haha
I have been going to disneyland ever since i was 1 and a half and i really support your channel
To this day I still wonder if Disneyland will ever move star tours ride to Galaxys edge. Its pretty weird to walk across the park to tomorrow land and then back to Galaxy’s edge. just put it in the specific area you created. My ocd is killing me.
My folks and I were at Disneyland in March of 1967, when Pirates of the Caribbean opened ... well tried to anyway. As I remember it managed to operate a couple of house a day. One time, we almost made it to the "start" when it was taken down, again. My Sister could get information out of almost anyone and she got the "cast member" where we were stopped to tell us what happened. There was an animatronic on a bridge that leans over and talks to the boats below. He ended up wires and all in some ladies lap. The ride was completely closed until the next day ... when we got to ride it.
Galaxy’s Edge still needs more. There is so much wasted space.
When you rush you get mediocre results
These are real interesting to watch
Thank you TPM!
Completely unrelated, but I’m finally going to Disney World next week, and I’m super excited! But I’m also disappointed because Expedition Everest is still closed. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first extensive closure the ride has had since it’s opening. So, sadly, no Disco Yeti for me, unless it miraculously opens within a week. Still super excited for the trip, but that’s a big bummer.
Dude, you may be the luckiest person on Earth. I got curious on why it was closed, and ended up stumbling to several articles stating that it's opening tomorrow, Saturday 16. You may get Disco Yeti after all 😁
@@Kairi1416 OH SHOOT LET’S GOOOOOOOO! Thank you for that incredible news!
I love your channel
Can you do more like videos about Universal and Cedar Point and those parks too because I really enjoy them.
love how your still giving us disney content
I love u keep up good work
Much as I needed to wait until opening. I would not miss it.
Make one about memory of splash mountain
Lesson here is: Just because it's a bad start doesn't mean it's always bad in long run, unless doesn't get improve them well.
One of my best moments at Disneyland is when I was rise of the resistance and it broke down and I got to go through the back
rise of the resistance at disney hollywood studios is the cause for mickey & minnie's runaway railway being delayed until march of 2020 because they needed help building the ride, causing people who were working on the runaway railway to leave their work site, slowing down work on that ride
Wow because of this video I found out that I share a birthday and birth year with star tours in Disney world !
Me and my sis love Disney and your Vids
I was at roger rabbits cartoon spin opening day. I also got to meet Charles flesher the voice of roger. I’m also a cast member and got to test out rise a few times.
Funny how Hollywood Studios (formally MGM Studios) opened before UO, but still feels like a cheap knockoff.
I love your videos
yea me too!!!!
At least you don't have pirates trying to eat people when Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down
I love what you do
I'm hoping Avengers campus isn't a failure, but if paycheck canceled the E ticket Avengers ride, it will
I’ve probably been to ToonTown less than 3 times. Once you have seen it there really isnt any reason to return unless you have young kids who want autographs. We did all that once.
I didnt even know there was a Roger Rabbit ride.
I visit the parks at least once a year. When my kids were young, we went several times a year.
How can you say you've seen it all and there isn't any reason to return there if you completely missed the biggest ride in the land?
Speaking of the cantina, last summer we got crazy lucky. It just rained and nobody was out, so we asked if there was room from missed reservations. Then, they let us in! No promises this will happen to others though
We need more Roger Rabbit themed attractions at Mickey’s Toon Town at Disneyland in California, because Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin is not nearly enough for the characters from the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
