    Fish on the line brighten an ugly day ... every time. When the wind isn't at your back, a few lures cast into, or quartering into, the wind. Kastmaster spoons and Goofy Jigs are among them.

    You can't argue with success. You're wacking a few fish. But I'll go with some of your favorite MirrOlures. I'll take a 5M18 or 5M21. Leave both props on the lure. Give the rear prop more pitch. If the water is flat, the 94MR18 is my go-to. I don't get much flash from lures on overcast days but the 5M with props churn up the water and really scream at the fish to EAT ME! Same with the Top Dog (94MR) . Good advice for breezy days, C.A. 👌👍

    Diamond 8x is my favorite braid. It casts a mile and I’ve never had a wind knot using it

      It’s a beautifully built limp braid that gives anglers problem free handling and superior distance on the cast… appreciate your input

    I love the measuring tape on the deck, it's a good idea to see if they're close. I have been using a seamstress tape that rolls up in a little roll and fits in a little section of a tackle tray. But I want a bump board like my fish tagging buddies have because there's no arguing about the length. The soft tape is better than nothing but it's hard to measure a redfish with it.
    On another note I think you've got me talked into trying purple lures.
    I got some copper and gold paddle tails with rattles in the tail and the silver/white version of the same thing. Tailknocker is the name I think. You should definitely try them. The rattles are nice and the action is pretty nice.

      I use those seamstress tapes in the summer when I'm tarpon fishing. I have had them as long as 8 feet, and I can wet the tape and lay it on the gunnel for redfish or easily put it at a tarpon's lip and let it stretch out along the tarpon's body to get a quick length when the boat in gear, and then wrap the girth because it's completely flexible. Wetting the tape usually makes it kind of stick to the gunnel when it's breezy so it doesn't blow off the boat.

    Great suggestions! Thanks! While not a redfish magic type spinning lure? I have a good luck with them on windy overcast days,

    For the longest time, a paddle tail has been my go to. I’ve caught tons of fish on them. But I feel like I catch more fish, redfish in particular on plugs. Everything I use, is something I can cover lots of water with. Unless I’m sight fishing. I know there are fish in the areas I’m fishing. Is there anything I can do with the paddle tail to help get bit more? Maybe slow it down a little bit? Or just keep covering water

      Vary retrieves or making contact with the bottom always seems to get fish enticed with the paddle tail lures

    Hey, Captain CA! I ended up picking up two Curado DC 150s and paired them with a 7ft and a 7.5ft incite MH rod. I absolutely love the setup! That being said, I want to get another pair that works better for casting those lighter lures, like a 1/8 oz or 1/6 oz (such as the texas eyed finesse) with a small paddle tail. I can't find much info on using the dc 150 with a medium or medium light rod, but what I have found seems like it's not the best reel for lighter lures. With loving the dc 150 so much, is there a similar shimano dc reel that would be better when paired with a medium light action rod for those lighter lures? Also, what action tip should I be looking for? Thanks!

    • @flatsclasscharters
      @flatsclasscharters 7 місяців тому +1

      The Shimano DC reels are a little more of a challenge with lighter lures… you could swing them on a 7’ medium/moderate fast rod and 20lb braid and have some success. But you’ll be better off with a Shimano Curado 70 or Chronarch in my opinion with 20lb braid

    • @lmb25315
      @lmb25315 7 місяців тому

      @flatsclasscharters thank you for the recommendation. I did have a 10lb braid on those curado DC 150s and kept getting some bad wind knots and some very small bird nests that were extremely difficult to get out. I upgraded to 30lb power pro on them, and there are no issues at all now. With your recommendation of downsizing to 20lb braid on one of those reels, is 20lb still thick enough to where it is much more manageable to pull out than 10lb?
