Great video! Suddenly, The Count of Monte Cristo isn’t at the bottom of a long list of Things That Will Change My Life (If i ever read everything on that list it’d be longer than the life I have left anyway lol) which honestly makes it way more likely I’ll read it anyway because I’m not waiting for the perfect time in my life to maximize Monte Cristo meaningfulness
yeah there’s just so much media in the world … even if you just go with the “10/10 top tier” stuff we’ll never get through it all. Plus we gotta have enough life left over after reading for the change to be worth it! but I hope you enjoy it if/when you get to it!
i will, however, continue to tell those i meet "YOU HAVE TO WATCH TIM DEMOSS ON UA-cam" because... they are indeed behind if they have not boarded this train
this comment means a lot to me. I went through a program in college where we read the Great Books and this quote was presented as an unofficial theme for the program. My professors would be thrilled to hear it’s coming through in my normal life. Thank you!
thank you! I did read (and like!) that book a long long time ago but forget a lot of it. I still have a copy somewhere & might crack it open again. thanks for the recommendation!
Honestly, never been a big reader, would often not even read the books I was studying at school. However, I’ve started getting into it recently whilst doing 75 hard and this video popped up on my recommended and our mutual love of La La Land is going to get me to read the count of monte cristo lol
first off, totally have skimmed books I was supposed to have read in school (sorry if any of my professors are reading this...I promise I'm going back and reading the books now!) so no judgement. and hope you enjoy monte cristo! full disclosure, it has very little in common with La La Land other than the fact that I like it a lot :)
@@timdemoss hahaha don’t worry, not expecting a ryan gosling song in monte cristo! Would highly recommend Sapiens and Malcolm X as a couple of non-fiction reads if you haven’t already
Just bought The count of monte cristo and The Magic Mountain yesterday. Will read it simultaneously from tomorrow. Such a coincidence that, suddenly you too, recommending that book❤❤
haven’t seen it yet but totally get what you mean! if you do think you’d like it tho don’t let people recommending things “wrong” stop you from trying it out :)
this is actually really helpful. i can get really excited about the things that mean a lot to me and can unfortunately overhype them. the “this book changed my life” line is definitely something I’ve said. but i can struggle with social nuances so i wasn't really aware of what i was doing wrong or how to fix problem. thanks a lot for the advice ♥️
I wouldn’t say it’s “wrong” per se so don’t get too worried about it :) maybe it works in some cases! Depends on your relationship with the person too. But yeah I’m glad this was helpful!! Have fun recommending things! :)
The best thing that I’ve heard about how to recommend a book or movie or whatever is to simply say to the person “oh gosh how I would love to be able to watch that again for the first time!!!” (Or read it, or whatever…) I think THIS is the perfect response…
Love the video, I have a question tho. For someone who wanna read but feel like it's a shore, when I begin to read I can't stop but I also don't wanna start too cause i feel it's boring. What's the good rhythm of reading or solution you can suggest?
I’d say if it feels like work / feels boring, you might want a different book. Totally depends on what you’re interested in but I’d stay away from big/heavy/dense books if you’re just trying to start a habit. as far as a habit goes, you could try incorporating into your nighttime routine - just read a few pages til you get sleepy. (And if it’s still boring…well, it’ll help you fall asleep :) ) Or a few pages in the morning. That could be fun. Really whatever works for you - the main step would be to find a book you actually want to read :)
Would you believe me if I told you I read the Count of Monte Cristo 5 years ago and also really loved it? It doesn’t sit in the number one spot of favorite book for me, but man it is such a gripping story. I’ve never rooted for a protagonist as much as I have with that book. He overcomes what seems like insurmountable odds, and becomes completely transformed in the process of seeking his revenge - turning into a legend. despite how much you root for the guy, the end of the story also shows that if you spend your life seeking out revenge like him that you can certainly get it, but it’s a much lesser existence. The terms that Mercedes and The Count ended things on filled me with a deep sense of melancholy for how much those two lost
I have told my kids their whole lives that the secret to happiness is low expectations. That applies to media consumption as much as anything else.
always fun to be happily surprised!
The Incredibles is so good dude
it’s … incredible

going out and shaming people into watching this video would be a whole new level of irony
I think you are a prime example of someone who took Scorates' words "the unexamined life is not worth living" to heart. Thank you.

These videos are so chill. I love it.
thank you! :)
Great video! Thanks Tim! I'll give The Count of Monte Cristo a read someday. You should read Kafka on the Shore! Great book!
thanks for the recommendation! & thanks for watching ! :)
Love the subtleties of your thought process. I think you might like The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak 🙂
OMG! I just finished that book a couple weeks ago. Loved it, too.

You should checkout my books. Wonderful video and insights.

that's a terrific way to do it! someone recommended the Harry Potter books to me that way recently (I've never read them surprisingly)

What are About Time and Endurance
About Time is a movie and Endurance is a book about Ernest Shackletons voyage to the South Pole. I would also recommend both!
cool visuals
thank you!
You must be a great teacher
I have a lot to learn! but I think I've gotten better since my first year at least :)
What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner?
shhh - who told you??
Again a great video
Thank you

Oh I don’t think this link works actually. maybe edit with an update
