Great video, as always. As I read through the comments section, it becomes apparent pretty quickly that there are a number of men out there who have wanted more from the "gun community" than just "shoot 'em in the !@#%ing face!" My hope is that this keeps going for a long time, that you surround yourself with other like minded people and that the "movement" grows, that things like virtue, courage, compassion, etc. become more and more the sort of characteristics that people think of when they hear the phrase "gun community." There are a TON of guys in the "gun community" that exhibit these qualities, but very few that "get press time" or who make such things an integral part of their daily voice and message. I think I'm not the only one who welcomes your voice. Keep it up.
Jim Aldridge thanks Jim. As I was reading the comments to this post I latched onto yours with laser focus. Indeed the true warrior ethos is not one of just Shootin em up. When we reflect on the historically great warriors of the past, we see a more cerebral approach to the calling of protector. Reflecting on my miserably weak understanding of biblical history, I recall that all the great warriors who were considered to be masters of the battlefield were also known as individuals of great intellectual curiosity; such as Joshua & David. Not only were they protectors of their people, they were also pursuers of truth & knowledge.
When you suggest that those of us who are possessed of the intellectual and moral ethos of the Warrior Poet are rarely seen in the media, my reflexive thought is that this is wholly intentional. My belief is that most of us who truly wish to be protectors of society, beginning with our own families, are intellectually engaged enough to seek valuable resources, like this channel. But those who are focused on creating content for the mass media have an agenda of their own and it runs counterintuitive to ours. They want as many people as possible to believe that we are all the ‘Shoot him in the face!’ type. They’re not interested in putting reasonable, rational sounding people on television or social media because we disprove the narrative of the Gun Nut. That’s why it’s important for us to share content like this as much as possible.

LucianLacroix that is truly sad and also sadly true. I saw the same thing in the Marines, despite having a recommended reading list from the CG. I also see the same thing with our civilian law enforcement. Don't get me wrong, I support law enforcement and the rule of law, but I see too much emphasis placed on either brute force or political correctness and the "we hire anyone regardless of whether or not they can do the job". Most police don't have to have a college degree, and the pay is so low that most college graduates won't consider the profession at all. Training for law enforcement, in most cases, even state and federal level, is a joke. Bare minimum psychological and background screenings, police academy is a joke with standards that are lowered all the time. Most officers only shoot their duty weapons once a year on a fixed qualification course, and on and on. This breaks my heart and also discourages me greatly. We as a nation cannot continue to rest on the backbreaking work and dedication of generations long since past. Our future is directly proportional to how good our military and law enforcement officer's are. And things aren't looking to bright.

I specially liked the relevance you always give to the ethics founded in God's word as the core values of human behavior that shape the way we act in all situations of life. If we acquire that mindset of behavior in our lives, we can be better citizens, fathers and human beings and the use of force will be always legitimate under the natural foundations of human behavior in terms of superior ethics. I need to do the more modern stuff in addition to the dead guys I think...
Personally I think its all relevant! A guy I think you might like which I am sure you already know of is Joshua L. Chamberlain. I think he would be my definition of a warrior poet.
The more I learn about this guy the more I love him. At first I thought he was just a neat gun dude, then he was a spec ops veteran. Then he was a philosopher and now he's a christian. I'm so happy I found this channel
Yes!!! Chesterton! Great quote! Love your videos! Keep em coming!
From 5:00 thru 5:20 exchange "government" and insert a "people" is exactly what some people in the African American community have been saying for years at least since I was little and I'll be 40 on my next birthday. Truth is truth applicable where it is applicable. Anyway back on target, I have just found your channel have subbed, and I will be recommending it to others. You do a great job and seem to have a genuine love for what you do with the heart of a teacher.
Of all the people I follow on UA-cam, I feel like I get the most out of the information and the topics that you share on your channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Hopefully I will get a chance to come train with you at teluric.
Thank you Matt and hope to see you in a class before long!
Holy smokes, so true for 2020+
Some of your inspiring content keeps me going and striving to do better for myself, my family and my community. Really appreciate the time you put in!
What a great video. I have been watching your videos over the last couple weeks since I found your channel, and I haven't found anything else quite like it. Please keep doing what you are doing, sir! Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa.
Awesome education, and reinforces, many of my thoughts. Learning, learning. Thank you
You're an inspiration man, I hope I can phase out media and start reading more. It's so hard to chose a book over electronic devices. I have so many books I haven't finished nor started.
the struggle is real for us both bro
One of your best videos.. improving my reading list with these books .. thank you
Sometimes we forget who we were and we need a nudge back to the path we need to follow. Thanks John.
Thats one Wise man.... I learn so much from reading. even my vocab has improved. Thanks for the video. more people need to read History...
I was geeked when you reference your heavy-hitter .
I knew what you're reaching for before you did keep up the good work :)
A great blessing it was for me to have found your channel. You're a great mentor!
Instantly recognized Solomon's quote as well , good stuff man.
Excellent video. You're getting me interested in starting to read more again lol. Appreciate the book list as well, that's a place to start!
happy to help bro!
Hello John, I was borned and raised in Colombia and despite I haven't lived in the US I identify myself with the culture you teach in your videos about home defense and fighting. Thank you for sharing your insights and learning from the. Greetings from Colombia.
The modern thinking is that intellectuals will herald a new era of peace, that letting cowards do our thinking will make us more peaceful. But there is no violence like the violence of cowards, history is replete with cowards directing fools to do the dirty work of insulating them from their callow fears.
+Jolie Rouge where did you come from warrior Poet? And why are you just now starting to weigh in?
Superbly well said!
"The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know"
The Prince! I love it!! I read it just about every year and it has enhanced my ability to navigate in the waters of the professional world and my personal life.
You are one of finest young men I don't know. A true warrior.
Rocking it bro! And of course, the best way to lead, understand or adapt is through the Holy Spirit.
You learn until they lower you into the ground. The warrior must be balanced with the artist, yin and yang. Great content, Mr. Lovell.
Great list of books!! I would also suggest The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker
This video was amazing and we need more like it!
Thank you John!
Thank you so much. I believe I did ask that you share some educational resources. I hope I can cover at least some of what you shared.
Great stuff brother!
I’m a Pastor, which means I have put more time into the poet training and now I’m working on the warrior training. Thank you for your help in this new pursuit.
Wow! First time listener. I'm very impressed. Subscribed. Peace.
Thank you for the time and effort which you put into these videos. Each one makes me realize how little I know, and motivates me to raise my knowledge and quest for life.
from one student to another then ... 'happy to help'
Thank you for these videos. I need all the strength I can get these days. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. And as I always say That's your blood on the ground. That's my blood on the ground. That's our blood. On the ground
Very good episode. Enlightening, in a word.
You’re awesome! Thanks for the great motivation!
Outstanding presentation. I study Post WWII European and Scottish history. It became useful while I was a Battle Staff NCO Planner later on.
Who Dares, Wins!!
Yes!!!!!
We stand on the shoulders of the wise who have gone before us. And if we skip that part, we have to slog through all that extra, costly mud, as you so deftly described!
#WarriorPoets
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels.
thanks!
Great video, always awesome to see fellow book (history, philosophy and theology) lowers chatting about their books. Bucket list: One day visit John and have a chat about books!!
Francis Shaffer and CS Lewis molded my life and my mind. It's so nice to see you have enjoyed them as well. I'd like to take a class just to sit and talk. lol. I've got to read some of these others though. Soul wrenching indeed.
You are the best booktuber on UA-cam.
booktuber! HA!
Wonderful content and thank you for carrying the banner brother. As brothers and sisters we can all agree to disagree without being disagreeable, but I am in agreement.
thanks Brad - hope you are well bro. Glad we can all play nice ;)
I love your philosophy and your attitude, and I am definitely going to start knockin out some of the books on your reading list ASAP
John By far, one of your best videos. Thanks
I get something different out of Musashi's Book of Five Rings every time I read it. A must read for the warrior poet.
Ah Ha! I love the list of books, and the influence of the great thinkers of all time on your world view. I had thought James Jager might be a great trainer, but I can see you’re the guy I need to learn more from about tactics. Beautiful world view!
I love these talks!! As always, THANKS JOHN
Hey John, I just wanted to say thank you for the videos. The information you provide is substantial to my own training. I take away something from every video you provide. Keep up the fantastic work.
Amen brother! keep up the good fight!
Good to see a man with his priorities in order
"... I can still like you, and we'll get along just fine. So be nice, and I'll be nice back."
If only we could make that go "viral".
Keep up the great work and the great videos.
I need to make time to read. I remember growing up and having mandatory reading time.
Where did I come from, why am I here, and where am I going? The three questions all would do well to find the answers.
John - you do a great job and thanks.
I've been binge watching your videos now for two days. You are a very interesting and very knowledgeable Warrior Poet. This video compelled me to comment for some reason. I live in NC and one day I sincerely hope to train with you and maybe (it would be my great honor) to have a conversation with you. God bless you my brother and stay safe, we need more like you.
As always, very good video. Thank you
thanks!
