As a former team opens and pro am angler ill say you dont need any extra fast reels to be competitive all you need is 6 ratio and low 7 ratio reels. If youre throwing deep cranks a 5 ratio can be handy. But you also have to take in a count on size of reel because the larger spooled reels at lower ratios bring in as many inches per turn as a smaller size (spooled) reel. Inches per turn is what matter the most. Btw most pros dont use above 7 ratio reels often. They may use a 8 ratio when flipping and pitching so they can get the fish up faster and not have the fish get taggled in the cover they are fsihing.

I do agree Larry sometimes fishes to fast especially in cold and cooler water situations lol. He tends to power through his fishing but.... he has said he knows he does that sometimes and he bought slower ratio reels (5 ratio) to help him slow down with crankbaits lol
