- An introduction to some lesser-seen Lough Key treats. Driftwood takes in some of the sites of this magnificent boating location at the northern end of the Shannon Navigation. Lough Key also has a caravan and camping park so even if you don't have a boat it's still very accessible.
We met Joe & Ben from Aquaholic Adventurer Boat Log, you can see their boating UA-cam channel here: / @aquaholicadventurerbo...

I love going to lough key it's a wonderful place whether in a boat or just to camp in the campsite it's just beautiful.
For sure Derrick, it's a special place👍
Beautifully captures the essence of Lough Key and the Forest Park, folks. Loved it.
I believe the largest old trees are Redwoods from North America.
Ah thanks for that 👍
That vaneer came out great! Love your videos.
Thanks Brian, it has one or two small bubbles is it, but a blind man wouldn't see them!
ohhhh yeahhhhhh, driftwood just dropped a new vid!!!
I hope it lives up to expectations now! You getting out on the water this year?
@@DriftwoodBoatBlog loved it Har& Mar, on the water aug 29th 2 weeks. carrick, belleek, killaloe, carrick.
Ah good stuff. I reckon that's the best time of year too. In Spring and Autumn, you have much better odds of getting good weather. Hope we bump into you 👍
Thanks so much folks for your very informative videos they really are a great help to us shannon starters keep up the good work regards Gerry Gallagher
Thanks Gerry, glad you found them helpful 👍
Looks like a place well worth a visit
One to put on the bucket list Frank 👍
Lovely video, Thanks👍
Thanks Paul, it was fun making it too 😀
Great vlog guys. Love the drone shots.
Cheers Neil, the drone through the trees was a bit nerve wrecking😫
Love the content guys. Keep it up. I do like when you show boat maintenance, TLC etc. every now and again. It's part of having a boat. Also enjoying the history lessons :D
Thanks Christian, glad you're enjoying the channel. You're right, every boat takes a bit of work and sometimes, a lot of work! H&M
Hi Harry/ Marion.
Delighted to come across you in Carrick on Sunday. Got myself a picture with Driftwood. 😊🛳⚓👍
Hi Gerard, I should have photo bomb your picture, sorry we couldn't bring you onboard for tea. Hope you enjoyed your weekend in Dromod 👍
Nice video from Lough Key
Cheers Kalevi 👍
Great videos Harry & Marion. I passed you up around Drumharlow on my holidays. I can recommend a product called Patina. It was used on my boat by the previous owner and gives a very good strong finish. It’s like a paste/wax that you rub on with a cloth.
Donie
Thanks Donie, I'll have a look at Patina. T.B.H. we need to give it a full paint job but something like patina might buy us some time. Hopefully we'll meet you properly on the river next time. H&M
Love the videos especially since I can't get over this year.
Glad you're enjoying the videos Kevin. Not the same as the real thing, but enough to be a short term boating fix 👍
oh that "big tree" it must have been close to 40 years ago when i was in that tree we called it the "tent tree"
Hope it brought back some happy memories 👌
Very high standard carpenter work
Thank you, but I won't give up the day job just yet!
Thanks for another great vlog lads.Great to see home again, missed it there for a while, hoping the old virus does"nt raise it's ugly head again!
Thanks Brendan, last few days show a spike in numbers again here, not looking too good right now. 🙏
Hi me my mam and dad were on the shannon since last friday we were hoping to see you on our trip
We went from banagher to portumna but we left today
Maybe we'll meet the next time. I really hope that you had a great time on the river 👍
We did have a good time dad said the only struggle was the wind in portumna we got a right bang at the bow when we were leaving but there was no dammage. We went with carrickcraft and we are now saving for a small boat
Hi Harry and Marion,
Myself and my wife Pamela have just finished watching every episode of your wonderful boat blog. Thank you both so much for this amazing insight to Ireland’s river Shannon we look forward to more wonderful episodes. We are taking to the river from Banagher on August 31st we would love to meet you both sometime. Just a quick question how far is it from Banagher to Terryglass?
Hi Shane & Pamela, thanks so much for watching, and enjoying the videos. Hope that you both have a great holiday on the water. It's about three hours cruising time to Terryglass. Try to time to arrive at Portumna bridge just before it's due to open 👍 Take care H&M
As Harry said, it's about 3 hours from Banagher to Terryglass. Maybe 3.5 if you are inexperienced. When you get your boat, check the time. It'll take you about 2.5 hours to Portumna, so check the bridge opening times. Try to make the 5:30 slot for the bridge, otherwise it gets really late coming into Terryglass.
Great video footage as always, thanks for the mention enjoy your days off.
Thanks Joe, hope you didn't mind me robbing a screen shot of you 😂 Talk again soon
@@DriftwoodBoatBlog lol nope didnt mind, thanks, keep the drone footage comming i enjoy the shots of the boat when yer steaming passed the drone.
Ye but try retrieving a drone on a moving boat! it's nerve wrecking 😂
@@DriftwoodBoatBlog i just ordered one my luck it will splash in the water then get run over.
@@AquaholicAdventurerBoatLog did you look on adverts joe, dji phanthoms for 300.
Don't use varnish without mixing in a little stain to resist UV damage
Thanks for the tip Ian 👍
Channel is great... Bought my 1st boat this year based up on the erne River... Nothing but breakdowns and problems. Got a full survey be4 i bought which came back good. Boat is 30ft long and cost 12k.....do u think its worth hanging onto and percervering with or would I be better upgrading to a boat for around 20k..very frustrating few weeks at times.... Your on the ball with your knowledge generally generjally and advice... Thanks
Glad you're enjoying the channel. You should probably get the advise from a good boat mechanic, maybe one from one of the hire companies would be best placed to advise. But I would be inclined to try to get the issues sorted out if that's in any way practical.
Hi Guys, another great video. I was just wondering where you can get the veneer from in ireland I've spent the last couple of hours searching and cant seem to find and sheets that would be large enough. All I can find is the small part and craft style sheets. Makes such a huge difference. My boat is similar to yours in that the wood is very badly bleached. A lot worse than yours haha. Thank you for giving me the idea of the veneer seems like an easy project to do over a few days. Thanks and enjoy your time off
Hi Thomas, glad you like the channel. Just search on Ebay and you should fine the teak veneer, it comes in 1Ft & 2Ft wide lengths. Hope it;s successful for you 👍 H&M
Do you use UV filter in drone camera. This video is just great?
Hi Kalevi, no I don't use any filter, glad you like the video 👍
I have registered my drone in Finland and Ireland and got also Ireland regnumber
Ah good, you're sorted so 👍
My friend in Bellanaleck wrote to me that County offaly is closed (Corona).
Are you onboard now and where?
Regards: Your friend in Finland
Hi Kalevi, we're up by Lough Key now. Yep Offaly is closed down, The hire bases have moved the fleet out of the county temporally. Hopefully the restrictions will be lifted in a week or two. H&M
Cedar and yew straight away..
👍 Good on ye. That's more than the tourist info office could come up with😂
Fine drone piloting.
Must I have license for drone flight near own boat in Ireland and North Ireland ?.
In Finland we have register from 1st jul and it is according to EU regulations
No license here, just register it 👍
Hi harry, love the channel and the content. Would you by any chance have an email address I could ping a few questions across to you? I’m heading down on the 22nd for a week from Banagher but have a few questions on what’s open where.. cheers
Hi Luke, the best place to get up to date info is probably on the Inland Waterways Comments and Advice page on FaceBook. We have a contact us link on our website if you want to use that but you'd get better advise from the FB page as we're a good bit north of Banagher right now. Hope you have a great holiday.
Driftwood Boat Blog perfect, cheers Harry
I just read that EU drone law has been changed from it's original date 1st jul 2020 to 31dec2020. It will be same in Ireland and Finland and drone weight which will oblige to register process and/or internet lesson,we know later! U dont know now how it is going in North Ireland, because of Brexit ?
Just register it with iaa.ie/drones it's free. No idea about NI, sorry
Hope you sanded that old stuff anybit at all Harry 🙄
Ye I gave it a light sanding by hand, between each coat. Very happy with the result 👍
