      that is VERY affordable for a major city. A condo of similar size in Manahattan would be around 3 million starting. LA near any of the city centers, could be 2 million. Even chicago goes up to 3 million near the city center. 600k is fucking dirt cheap for this location

    The one I liked best was the development in Edmonton. Why ? Nice sculptural elements in the architecture, arranged around something we don't (but should) have enough of in Canada: a beautiful Public gathering place a.k.a. Square. The Square seems to be appropriately shielded from the weather on all sides, so it has a chance of being used during Winter too. Great job Edmonton from a former resident of Toronto.

      Well Canada has a relatively low population and our cities are very far apart. The largest projects I think are infrastructure. Infrastructure is a huge challenge being a cold climate plus we have highways connecting towns with maybe 10,000 people 100's of kilometers apart so it costs a fortune to maintain. But the smaller communities tend to be based around agriculture or some type of natural resource extraction so it is good to connect them.
      The largest project we ever built was probably the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was built in the 19th century over thousands of kilometers in the wilderness and over mountains connecting eastern Canada with the pacific ocean. It was really the equivalent of the Apollo missions to the moon.

    Awesome video, I didn't even know about all of these, and I'm Canadian.
    Calgary is also building a $4.5B+ LRT line, and eventually will build a new arena district as well.
    But yeah as others have said Royalmount won't be the biggest mall in Canada, West Ed is almost double its square footage. WEM is also the largest mall in North America, and one of the largest on the planet.

    I really wanted to continue to work in Down Town Edmonton until a chronic medical condition immobilized me. I am slowly recovering and hope to see my amazing new downtown Edmonton. Can't wait to see the Quarters and new projects to be completed along the Fort Road corridor. We are one of the most brutally cold cities in Canada next to Winnipeg but we have so many city treasures. The river valley is our real gem and it's 40 km of large scale unbroken public green space. I swear the city has the most green space of any large city on the north American continent only to be beaten out by Vancouver for green space.

      Vancouver has all the right things going for them. Unlike the rest of Canada. Vancouver is located closest to Asia. Which mean that many Asians have good access to this city compared to Montreal or Toronto.
      The area that Vancouver currently sits in able to be developed properly. The ground is strong enough for skyscrapers, similar to Manhattan. You can only build skyscrapers on certain areas.
      Many investments from Asian (mainly Chinese mainlanders) onto the property market, hence the booming in the housing market. Vancouver is a safer investment compared to the US or European cities.
      The economy of Vancouver is booming. Hence lots of migrations domestically or internationally.

    • @MrTuffbull
      @MrTuffbull 6 років тому +1

      Yes maybe, but unaffordable for most Canadians, and despite it is solid rock, Vancouver is the most dangerous place in Canada for being a very powerful sismic area, including potencial forTsunami. Montreal is on a very solid bedrock, actualy the rock comes up near the surface and even though it can be sismic, it is not major like Vancouver.

    • @michaelchristopher8266
      @michaelchristopher8266 6 років тому

      Vancouver is not affordable, is in danger of flooding from global warning, and can experience seismic activity
      Edmonton is affordable, on solid rock, no seismic activity, and a high growth rate.
      Calgary is fairly affordable, on solid rock, no seismic activity, a high growth rate, but has experienced major flooding in the past.
      Toronto is very expensive which means there is a high demand for condos and apartments, solid land, no seismic activity
      Vancouver doesn't seem like a great place to invest in to me.

    • @zedxyle

      Francois Lafrance They're counting some African cities. Which is disputable, because although most people use French as a common language in those places, it is not their mother tongue language.
      So Kinshasa and Abidjan could technically be ranked 1st and 3rd.

    • @damsh6408
      @damsh6408 6 років тому

      zedxyle, same as Montreal, a lot of families are english speaking nowadays but use french as a common language. I don't think it's disputable as french is the official language in all those cities.

    • @MrTuffbull
      @MrTuffbull 6 років тому

      +Dam's I wouldn't disagree with you but, in Montréal, French is still majority as the mother tongue, English was a minority of people. There is more and more speaking people in public in Montréal simply because many immigrants found it easier to use English than learning French if they already know some English.

      The thing is the other metro areas like Edmonton or toronto have way larger areas than Vancouver making it more dense. In my opinion major cities should go off of metro populations and takes many factors into account

    Montreal will not be home to Canada's largest mall, Royalmount will be 2.5million sqft while West Edmonton Mall has 5.3 million sqft (North America's largest mall)

      Michael Christopher Winnipeg’s mall dreamscape will be MUCH bigger than both malls.. it’s gonna be 500 acres.

      Emperor Palpatine LMAO you think that will happen? In WINNIPEG!?!? Lol it's sure gonna happen just like Winnipeg's Skycity. They are also requesting Government funding so maybe Manitoba should invest in a decent education system first.

    • @MinecraftGamerZ266
      @MinecraftGamerZ266 6 років тому

      Michael Christopher Winnipeg’s education system is fine... you do realise Winnipeg is the only the city, besides Toronto, that is one of the smartest cities in the world? Mhm..... I don’t see Montreal on there.... not even in the top 20. And your corrupt city with riots and protesters, bad traffic, snow, blah blah blah, so I wouldn’t be judging us, frenchies.

    • @MinecraftGamerZ266
      @MinecraftGamerZ266 6 років тому

      Michael Christopher Last I checked, university students in Montreal were protesters. Hahahahaha looks like your education is pure shit.

      Emperor Palpatine LMAO i'm not from Montreal, fuck Montreal. Actually Ottawa, Toronto, and Calgary are Canada's most educated cities with Winnipeg coming in thirteenth. Manitoba has a below average education system in Canada. BC, Ontario, and Alberta have been ranked as the most successful education system's while Manitoba is ranked 7th out of the 10 province's. Fun fact about Winnipeg, it has been ranked Canada's most racist city.

    I would consider removing the "actual skyline" shot of Edmonton. You can't even see the actual skyline from in the valley while on the river. Good video overall...thanks!

      Ya, the best view of the skyline is from the Kingsway Mall parkade. Or maybe the Capilano Bridge.

    I'm a Canuck and it really annoys me that that all these developments are going on in cities that are already over crowded and unaffordable. Wish someone would take some of that money and build a high speed train to connect Toronto to southern Ontario. Toronto is a great place to visit, but I don't want to live there.

    • @jackgunn1480
      @jackgunn1480 5 років тому

      I guess it's somewhat ironic, but expensive developments can only be profitable if real estate is expensive.
