that is VERY affordable for a major city. A condo of similar size in Manahattan would be around 3 million starting. LA near any of the city centers, could be 2 million. Even chicago goes up to 3 million near the city center. 600k is fucking dirt cheap for this location
The one I liked best was the development in Edmonton. Why ? Nice sculptural elements in the architecture, arranged around something we don't (but should) have enough of in Canada: a beautiful Public gathering place a.k.a. Square. The Square seems to be appropriately shielded from the weather on all sides, so it has a chance of being used during Winter too. Great job Edmonton from a former resident of Toronto.
Well Canada has a relatively low population and our cities are very far apart. The largest projects I think are infrastructure. Infrastructure is a huge challenge being a cold climate plus we have highways connecting towns with maybe 10,000 people 100's of kilometers apart so it costs a fortune to maintain. But the smaller communities tend to be based around agriculture or some type of natural resource extraction so it is good to connect them. The largest project we ever built was probably the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was built in the 19th century over thousands of kilometers in the wilderness and over mountains connecting eastern Canada with the pacific ocean. It was really the equivalent of the Apollo missions to the moon.

Awesome video, I didn't even know about all of these, and I'm Canadian. Calgary is also building a $4.5B+ LRT line, and eventually will build a new arena district as well. But yeah as others have said Royalmount won't be the biggest mall in Canada, West Ed is almost double its square footage. WEM is also the largest mall in North America, and one of the largest on the planet.
Oh man, I live in Edmonton, Alberta, and loved every minute of this video! Thank you so much for all the work you've put into this. So much great stuff to see. By the way, you missed out on even mentioning BLACHFORD development in Edmonton as well, not far from the ICE DISTRICT. We are one of the most brutally cold cities in Canada next to Winnipeg but we have so many city treasures. The river valley is our real gem and it's 40 km of large scale unbroken public green space. I swear the city has the most green space of any large city on the north American continent only to be beaten out by Vancouver for green space.
Thanks for this video. However, I am surprised that you did not mention what Sidewalk Labs is proposing to do in Quayside. But your video mentions many things I did not know.
I really hope Aldritt tower will be built in Edmonton, I’ve heard it might be cancelled. If it does happen we’d be up there with the scale of Toronto’s buildings. Also, it would most likely open up doors for new projects to begin like even taller buildings...
Vancouver has all the right things going for them. Unlike the rest of Canada. Vancouver is located closest to Asia. Which mean that many Asians have good access to this city compared to Montreal or Toronto. The area that Vancouver currently sits in able to be developed properly. The ground is strong enough for skyscrapers, similar to Manhattan. You can only build skyscrapers on certain areas. Many investments from Asian (mainly Chinese mainlanders) onto the property market, hence the booming in the housing market. Vancouver is a safer investment compared to the US or European cities. The economy of Vancouver is booming. Hence lots of migrations domestically or internationally.
Yes maybe, but unaffordable for most Canadians, and despite it is solid rock, Vancouver is the most dangerous place in Canada for being a very powerful sismic area, including potencial forTsunami. Montreal is on a very solid bedrock, actualy the rock comes up near the surface and even though it can be sismic, it is not major like Vancouver.
Vancouver is not affordable, is in danger of flooding from global warning, and can experience seismic activity Edmonton is affordable, on solid rock, no seismic activity, and a high growth rate. Calgary is fairly affordable, on solid rock, no seismic activity, a high growth rate, but has experienced major flooding in the past. Toronto is very expensive which means there is a high demand for condos and apartments, solid land, no seismic activity Vancouver doesn't seem like a great place to invest in to me.
Montreal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. Montreal's metropolitan area had a population of 4,098,927 as per the 2016 Statistics Canada census. Care to tell us which are number 2 and number 3?
Francois Lafrance They're counting some African cities. Which is disputable, because although most people use French as a common language in those places, it is not their mother tongue language. So Kinshasa and Abidjan could technically be ranked 1st and 3rd.
zedxyle, same as Montreal, a lot of families are english speaking nowadays but use french as a common language. I don't think it's disputable as french is the official language in all those cities.
+Dam's I wouldn't disagree with you but, in Montréal, French is still majority as the mother tongue, English was a minority of people. There is more and more speaking people in public in Montréal simply because many immigrants found it easier to use English than learning French if they already know some English.
Francois Lafrance, No. 2 is Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 9 046 000 people and No. 3 is Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire at 7 108 647 people.
