I have a ‘51 Ferguson TO 20 and the lift arms are constantly drifting up and down as the tractor is moving, depending upon the engine RPM’s. I’m going to do the steps you showed in the video to see if I can get that stopped. Thanks so much for posting. Best Wishes from WV, USA

Hello mate , it,s a masterstroke putting an O ring in as the backup lift cylinder piston ring , as you,ve found out , it stops the linkage slowly sinking over time , looks like a good idea to me , for all of you out there that do this , make a point of lifting & lowering your Fergie,s linkage a few times a week , this will keep the inside diameter of the lift cylinder oiled up , clean & workable . it,s surprising just how sensitive the ferguson system is , as you,ve shown , finding the right spot is everything , not everybody would have the patience or knowledge to achieve it , well done from the old country .
Just wanted to say thanks for this video, very clear explanation that allowed me to fix my TO-30. Draft control was so out of adjustment it'd judder lifting nothing. Adjuster was rusted solid, took lots of heat to free it up, but worked exactly as you said!

Hi Lance, been a while since I had a look at this particular video, the relief valve on my TEA has started to whistle over the last couple of weeks and there must have been something in the mechanism inside that has gone out of adjustment, or bent, or broken, the lever is working okay up to about 2/3rds of the quadrant and further up than that the relief valve blows. Great video Lance and I found the last part interesting too where the hydraulics don't go down with the tractor turned off. With my fergy I mostly have a carryall on the back and if I turn off the tractor the carryall starts going down slowly and faster if there is a load of wood or whatever on the back or it drops like a sack of potatoes while running and I release the lever. Would that mean the control valve or O ring is buggered? Because iv always wondered why it does that. Cheers Lance!
No the reason is the split piston rings on the main lift piston, they are made like that and the oil must leak down. The reason mine doesnt leak down is that I have fitted a Ford lift piston with an o ring that has a full seal. It is an easy thing to fit.
I have a question my arms on my TED20 go up on my tractor but won’t go down. But when I put an implement on, the arms work fine. Would it be a case of the draft control being to tight or something else.
Hi Lance, thanks a million for your awesome videos. Question for you. What is the best substitute, in your opinion, for the mineral oil called for in the OEM spec for the transmission, gearbox, hydraulics? I have an opportunity to get a bunch of shell industrial hydraulic fluid for a good price, but would it be better for me to go for tractor fluid, or even just automatic transmission fluid?
Hydraulic oil will be fine, just think about what is does in heavy industry. These little tractors will go well with it. a heavier one might help if things are worn a bit.
I have a Massey Ferguson 165 with Multi Power. The multi power operates fine but I can't get the 3 point to do anything. I have taken the top plate off and replaced the cylinder .
