  • I guarantee you that the video I show you in this tutorial will change the way you see and think about the drive swing for good.
How you create speed in the golf swing is so mis understood by so many, but in this video I explain the correct way with some incredibly simple drills that will allow you to do the same in your golf swing and create effortless speed for longer drives on the golf course.

One element that is crucial to delivering the club head on the right, shallower, path is where your right elbow goes. My coach showed me the importance of that elbow getting tucked in tight to the right side of my body as I approached impact…something you’re obviously doing Chris, but didn’t mention. Liked the physics example, makes total sense which adds veracity to the theory! 👍

Thank you Chris. That embedded video was definitely an ‘aha’ moment as well as your concise explanation. You’ve become my favorite UA-cam golf expert!
    Future ideas for coverage:
    1) does wrist hinge location in backswing occur at different positions based on type of club? (Driver/Iron/wedge)
    2) chip shots from 10-30 yards to an elevated green without chunking it!
    3) the ideal finish position (arms, legs, torso) and how to achieve at completion of downswing.
Thx again. Keep up the great content!

Great lesson Chris, I’m 73 and got my handicap down from 22 to 15 in four months, I just keep things simple and don’t overthink on the course.
However after getting the yips with my driver mainly overswing and too much arms I made a very significant change now a shorter more compact swing so on the backswing my hands stop at shoulder height but I maintain the triangle with a one piece takeaway. Now more accurate but I actually get more distance. I’m hoping my new bag of Stealth 2 woods and irons are also going to help! Thanks for all the great lessons!

@@ChrisRyanGolf Yes I'm still integrating the dropping into my swing. It felt funny at first, like all changes, and made me focus on that feeling a lot. I'm now finally able to focus on the release part, which feels different now that the start of the downswing has changed. But by not tipping the club slightly like I was, the club is not working against itself and the momentum flows into the swing. I should get some added distance with that too. Again great video, many key principles in one! Thanks for all your videos over the years, when I need a concept explained, I go to your videos.

@@ChrisRyanGolf UPDATE - I got 4 birdies on 9 holes today, shot a 37 ! (par was 35, so +2). New personal best! This video was one of a few that really helped me fix my swing over winter. I had a lesson that really got it my head and ruined my backswing and everything in general. I had to work hard to fix my backswing and incorporate the change into my swing. I also changed the start of downswing and impact. Many changes going on late winter, for a period my swing was bad/broken. I put the pieces together over the past couple of months. This video confirmed all of the thing I have been working on. I put it together very well lately and had the best round ever today. Thank you!

Great video Chris, how would you relate this to irons without losing compression? My conflict is hitting down on the ball with irons but releasing at the same time🤷‍♂️🤔

    • @heuristix77
      @heuristix77 Рік тому

This doesn’t really apply to irons because of where in the swing path the ball is meant to be at impact. Driver needs the bottom of your path to be behind the ball so the head is ascending at impact, while your irons and hybrids need the bottom of the path ahead of the ball, the shaft leaning forward, hands ahead of the ball, and the braking effect to create that snap is started/assisted by the bounce of the club and the friction of taking a divot. Hi Chris; when you talk about effortless speed, the way you explain it by turning without the club, obviously it's much more difficult with your arms crossing your body in a golf posture. When you turn your body, are you resisting against your lower body to create coil? I've seen some recommending to not resist this way because of the tension it creates, especially for seniors. Thanks in advance.

Help. I hit a terrible slice most of my life which I turned into a playable (kind of) fade with a miss of a dead pull left. This lesson helped me finally understand hitting from the inside. Today I went to the range and driver was terrible hooks. I know that is progress, but it is unplayable. Any advice from anyone?

What system are you using to get the club speed data ???

It’s called Blast, small sensor that clips onto any club, really good for measuring lots of metrics

Curious what your height and arm span is? Just trying to set expectations for myself, my "easy" feeling swing is around 108 right now but I'm only about 5 10 with shorter arms

That’s pretty good at 108, definitely well above average. I’m 6ft, not too sure what arms span is I’m afraid

How tall are you Chris? That plays a big part in the 'looks slow' element.
