    You underestimated the risk, when camping on that iceberg. I have spent many years in the Arctic watching them, not just roll, without warning, but also collapsing in the middle, or have large chunks falling off. This happens much more frequently, than you suggest in the video, especially during the summer. That berg could have rolled as soon as you set foot on it, or one hour later, or five, you just can’t tell, in advance. What often happens, is that it it is slowly melting on one side, more than the other. It then rolls into a new stable position, very suddenly, and without warning. This means that your tent becomes a death trap. Even just standing on it, near the edge is more risky than it appears. There are often underwater, horizontal "shelves", extending some distance out from the berg, These can be, far enough below the surface, so that you can't see them from the water surface. When the berg rolls, even though you might be in your kayak near the berg, and not on it, you will be caught up on that hidden ice shelf, and trapped underwater, unable to escape. I’m saying this for the safety of other watchers, who might be tempted to follow your example, thinking the risk is much lower than it really is.

    2 things are unimaginable here, for us in Africa, especially South Africa:
    1. Seeing midnight like this
    2. Standing on iceberg and sleep there
    You took us on a wonderful trip today. God bless you

    I love that you're brutally honest with yourself; knowing the risks you're taking and weighing the rewards, without being totally irresponsible and throwing all caution to the wind. Could the worst still happen even if only because of sheer bad luck? Yes, but you've clearly decided that the rewards are worth those risks.

    • @TravelersTale
      @TravelersTale  Рік тому +11

      Exactly. To be honest, the odds of something terrible happening in one night are relatively low but never 0.

    • @insaynbcr
      @insaynbcr Рік тому +6

      Risk for reward is one thing (and I am guilty of such as well). However, when I take these risks, I also take into consideration "will I be putting someone elses life at risk as well if something goes south real quick"?
      Relying on the Coast Guard as a fail safe without removing as many risk factors as possible can be deemed selfish.
      I did not see a PFD, but it is possible to wear an inflatable under a loose jacket. Then there is dressing appropriately for the water temperature, not the air temperature. In the event of a kayak capsize event.
      Without a PFD, very slim chance of finding a flipped over kayak paddler. In 45-60°F water, you have very few attempts to get back into a kayak before extremities are useless regardless of how awesome of a swimmer or shape you are in. Water that is right up against freezing, your time to reboard a kayak is reduced to a handful of seconds.
      Everyone's adventure (including my own) should take other folks lives into consideration.
      I am so glad we are able to see this adventure from the traveler himself, and not from the news.

      Wait a minute I'm not stupid and I'm a critical thinker. If all the water around a so called iceberg is running how did the " iceberg " come to be in the first place? How can ice form on top of running water if the temperature is higher than the "iceberg " , the temperature of the water would melt the ice. The whole body of water would have to be ice even then you wouldn't have big giant ice mountains jump on top of the water like that,,,,,how did that happen? And how long has the so called iceberg been there 🤔 ?
      They got busted this is CGI icebergs don't exist prove me wrong I DARE YOU!

    Man I spent 30 years around the glaciers of Southeast Alaska. I can't tell you how many icebergs I've seen roll. One rolled near the Mendenhall Glacier and two people drowned, and I've seen others roll all over SE Alaska. Camping on an iceberg is a really bad idea. Now camping on a glacier, now that is a different story - highly recommend if you have some trining.

    I imagine ice bergs get top-heavy over time, from the underside melting away, then easy to flip over - creepy

    Held my breath through much of this. But what an epic camping adventure. Well done.

    Spectacular! Your adventures are simply amazing. I don’t think there’s anything you’re afraid of. Your poor mother! 🤣 Brilliant as usual. Thanks so much for sharing your incredible talent with us!!

    Great adventure, and the fact that the iceberg moved while you were sleeping is scary!! I hope no one tries to do this challenge

    ❤ This was amazing Everest. A very beautiful but also scary video. It was simply stunning in those caves. I hold my breath a couple of times though 😱. You are definitely living the life my friend. Quite dangerously sometimes. But to see the happiness in your face, your eyes glowing out of joy, is what I love about you. Hope you are okay now 🤔. I know you said you were fine, but I'm still a bit worried. A truly great video and the drone fotage was beautiful too ❤️❤. Bless you and stay safe 🤗❤️❤️
