I am 79 and Polish American, born in Buffalo, N.Y. in an area that was known as Polonia. My wife and I visited Poland for the first time in 2019 in May,it was cold, we now live in Florida. I never enjoyed anyplace as much as I did on that tour. My Polish came back to me and I spoke the language I thought I forgot, it was like I was a child again talking to my Babcia. We traveled to many cities, enjoyed Zakopane and Gdansk with it's Cuisine, I ate smolec on bread like I did as a child. Thank you so much for this video explaining why you live there, pros and cons. I will continue to follow, this was very nice to view. I should add that every Easter I make placek, well that's what my mother called it anyway, and every Christmas my wife and daughter make many pierogi, yummm!
I worked as an engineer training Poles in a new factory in Poland back in the 70s. After spending a lot of time with my interpreter we ending up getting married. A lot of parallels in the story you have. As for the language, I am fine with numbers and telling time (being an engineer) and my daughter only spoke Polish when she started school here in the states because of the caregivers we had. When my daughter was about 7 yrs old my wife asked me to stop speaking Polish for a while because I spoke like a 2 yr old and I was corrupting my daughters Polish. Once you understand the consonant combinations and get the rhythm of the language I can follow it somewhat. My wife's parents stayed with us while my wife was going to school (one of the set of caregivers) and she would come home and ask what we talked about and then start laughing heartily sometimes (followed by rapid Polish I had no clue with and more laughter). What I said the conversation was about and what her parents said it was about would were entirely different! The bureaucracy may be bad now, but we got married when the country was still under Russian influence and that was interesting. The funny part was my wife would get upset when we went to a Polish office for documents, etc and I would calm her down. I would get upset when we went to the US embassy in Warsaw and we had to deal with the bureaucracy there and she would calm me down. Thanks for your videos, they bring back a lot of memories and I hope to return once travel is available again.

My husband and I were just recently stationed in Bydgoszcz. Best 3 years we have had in the military. We tried so hard to get extended there.. but alas we ended up in S.Korea. I love, love, love watching your vlogs because it brings back a lot of memories about our village and the food our neighbors made for us. I'll never forget that, once you find an in with Polish folks, they will love on you and take care of you as if you were their family. My husband deployed to Afghanistan last year and our landlord and his gf would bring food over to me, they'd take me out to dinners, find ways to force feed me homemade Nalewka (lol) and would not leave me alone. It was such a great gesture. Polish hospitality is real. I agree with all points of living in Poland.. the language was hard, the bureaucracy was rediculous (even as service members we had to deal with it) and the cost of living was amazing! I'd give anything to go back! We thought about retiring there but like previously stated..the bureaucracy is crazy hard to deal with..still thinking about it though..;)

I just subscribed to you blog and made the pierogi ruskie. They taste just like I remember my grandmother’s. I’ve been searching for the authentic taste and the Farmer’s cheese is what I was missing so I am so happy I found your blog. You both are so adorable and I enjoyed hearing how you met each other. I can’t wait to try more of your recipes and watch your videos.
Again me Babunia Danusia , I trying in my poor English to THANK for all “detailed confession “ . I am so thankful for openness. As everywhere we have adjust to circumstances while not in OWN country. Thank you so much Anna and Mark!! This was a delightful video! I so enjoyed getting to hear about your journey! I started watching your videos to learn how to make paczki and then listened to the one about angel wings cru......(can say it but not spell it! :0) I am 100% American Polish by heritage so I was raised with Polish cooking. Since I really didn't continue that into my family I have recently been motivated to look into some of the things my mother made and share with friends, relatives and neighbors. I also have always wanted to travel to Poland. I have not been out of North America. So I very much appreciated the "travel log"
Miraim, thank you for watching, and for bringing Polish food into your home. Life is short, so once the world goes back to normal plan a trip to Poland. Come see the old country!
It is a delight discovering your channel! I loved my years teaching at an American school in Warsaw in the 1990s. Seeing your blog makes me want to return to Poland for a visit!
I just found you two. I love your channel. Your story was so beautiful. I am 52 and my 65 year old husband had a stroke, so I understand that part, whatever he wants to do,it is his turn. But I found it is our time. He loves when I cook. I am Polish, love seeing the landscape where my Ancestors reign

Only found you today. Our friends here in England are from Szczecin also! We are now watching your UA-cam on TV. Thank you and for being honest re ups + downs... Kamil tells us the same downs!
In the end of your video you've stated that you would have thumbs down for your statement. I think that you are awesome, guys. You are brave and imaginative. I am enjoying to watch your videos, especially Friday Trips. I lived in Szczecin for 5 years in 80-ties; love this town. And for Mark - you are funny and cheerful and acting happy, happy. Way to go!! Doesn't matter what Polish people could think about you. This same reaction from Polish people I get when visiting my old country. They consider me crazy. Hehehehe I am happy I found your website - my daughter could follow polish food recipes in English. All the best to you, Anna and Mark
Hello from Wisconsin! We stumbled upon your channel by chance and now we can't get enough. My husband is of Polish ancestry and we have been dabbling in some Polish cooking. You guys are so fun to watch and your food looks delicious! ❤
It's a small world...I'm from the Chicago area and I have some ties to the Wis. Rapids/Plover/Point area. When Anna said SPASH, I literally said out loud, "You've got to be kidding me!" Love the videos. We may do a family Poland trip (no one has been back since our ancestors came to the US, so it'll be emotional)...so your videos are almost like advance prep. Not to mention giving some awesome recipes.
Anna and Mark, thank you for sharing your kismet story...and here I was thinking that Mark must have Polish parents or grandparents because of his wonderful Polish pronunciation every time he says something in Polish!! Love all the cooking and will definitely give the cheese cake a go. That was a great clip. Have some more "Guests"... and more trips ...as there is no OS travel anytime soon from my neck of the woods.
I am watching this from Stevens Point Wi I graduated from SPASH in 1978. So funny that I was watching this and you said Stevens Point WI and SPASH. My family is from Poland a small city near Krakow, some day I would like to visit the family farm that is still there. My Dad and brother seen it my nephew filmed some of it to show us when he came back
I loved hearing about you two and the whole episode was so great. I love seeing Poland through your eyes. I have not been back since 96, but would like to go back at some point. Mark - your Polish is great! I'm so glad I found you guys so I can experience Poland through you - love your recipes also!
Greetings from Florida, I was in Bydgzcz Poland , in 1995, flew over from Florida to see a girl that taught English at a college there she was polish had a fun time went all through Poland. Zakapana down south was my favorite. Took the train from Poznań to Gdańsk sorry for the spelling. My favorite dish her mom cooked for me was called padavana. Looking for the recipe to make it had 3meats cooked together Pork. Beef, chicken then they took pantyhose and stretched them over a pot of water to steam these dumplings on top of them that were light as air, then she made gravy from the meat was cooked in and you poured that gravy over the biscuits and omg that was so good. Have you all heard of this dish? Thanks and enjoy your shows. David
Just found you two. I love the easy, laid back way that you present Poland and foody stuff for all to enjoy. It is a real dream of mine to, someday, visit Poland.
Loved this video!! My grandparents were from Poland and I have always wanted to travel there and see it for myself. Thank you for sharing your city with me!
Thank you for this. I have family that are military and have lived all over the place as your family has. My husband's family are Polish, in the USA for a long time now, but our children love Polish food and culture and we are trying to provide examples of that for them and your channel does a lot to help with that. Thank you.
This was my favorite video. My Nana (great grandmother) was born in Poland. She came to the US when she was 3. Thank you for showing me my heritage. It is beautiful where you live.
Kebab is a food that comes from Turkey , it is a mixture of meat of various cuts , grilled on a roll of meat and is cut with a "rotating" equipment even if I have seen it cut "by hand" with big knife but then the slices must be chopped .. Various vegetables are added to the meat .. THE Kebab sandwich is called DONER (with something like the umlaut on the O) Turkish word..like the "piadina" (flat bread) which is called DURUN (here too with something like the umlaut on the first U) there is also the Plate Kebab composed by the rollo meat cutted in small pieces + vegetables on a plate with bread on the side.. It seems to me that in Greece there is a version of Kebab called GYROS (but I don't know very well the preparation and above all the type of bread with which it is served) ..
Looks like you are having a Yufka Kabab, and the wife is having a Doner Kabab....I lived for 14 years in Germany where there are many Kabab shops...Yummy!!
My family says that Anna is just like us. Cheerful and we love to share. It was awesome to tour the town. (The absence of pick-up trucks is noticeable, Mark.) Your personal and sweet chat in the park showed us 'what you are made of'. Wishing you all the best in your travels and endeavours. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
This made me very happy to watch. My family is Polish so I am interested in other Polish recipes. I also liked the trip around your town. It would be nice to see more of your trips. Nothing special, just normal life. Happy Holidays!

I'm planning on moving to Poland in a few years. And when it's safe to travel again, I'm going to go to Poland to visit all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins there (they only speak Polish so I'm learning the language to communicate with them).
Real nice to travel with you. Was last in Poland in the 70’s as a small child. Mom talks about Poland but it’s her memories prior to 1960. As we watch I think looks just like Canada where you are sitting.

First, thank you for youelr service! Secondly, Loved this video! Mark, I grew up in Northwest WI,(Rice Lake to be exact). Lived in Eau Claire for nearly 15 years before moving to the twin cities when I married my wife, whos father was from Gdansk area in Poland. I love the videos you guys do, as I love to cook myself. I myself make and sell cheesecakes during the holidays here in hopes of starting my own business soon..so I plan on making the traditional polish cheesecake this weekend...however I think the " farmers" cheese Anna used in her video is different than our semi-soft farmers cheese in Wisconsin..what differs from that style in poland in comparison to cream cheese..? I hope tonhear back from you! And thanks again for your video..keep smiling, its the Wisconsin in ya! Just pace yourself!😂

About customs, about anything snd everything. Family, stateside snd in Poland. Weather, travel, speaking English, just life.
Blessings.
We sure will continue to tell you guys all about Poland, daily life, and most of all food! As long as people want to see it, we will be glad to share our lives. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for subbing!
Again me Babunia Danusia , I trying in my poor English to THANK for all “detailed confession “ .
I am so thankful for openness. As everywhere we have adjust to circumstances while not in OWN country. All I feel and felt by more that thirty years here in Canada.
Hope to come back to live in Poland despite of “minuses”
Danka
Hello Mariam
It is a delight discovering your channel! I loved my years teaching at an American school in Warsaw in the 1990s. Seeing your blog makes me want to return to Poland for a visit!
Thx for the chat
I just found you two. I love your channel. Your story was so beautiful. I am 52 and my 65 year old husband had a stroke, so I understand that part, whatever he wants to do,it is his turn. But I found it is our time. He loves when I cook. I am Polish, love seeing the landscape where my Ancestors reign
I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I hope that you guys get everything out of life every day. Thank you for your kind words, and thanks for watching!

You guys are so welcoming, thanks so much. Love, love your videos😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Lovely couple and such beautiful country
You guys are so inspiring.... and so much in love it's so cute....
Thanks for sharing
Oh my God! You went to the same school as me! I graduated in 93. I'm from Poland originally also! Small world!
Hello from Wisconsin! We stumbled upon your channel by chance and now we can't get enough. My husband is of Polish ancestry and we have been dabbling in some Polish cooking. You guys are so fun to watch and your food looks delicious! ❤
Welcome!! we love to see fellow Wisconsinites on the channel! Thanks for watching!
Love your “ Kitchen Closed Fridays “ as you show us around the beautiful Polish country.
It's a small world...I'm from the Chicago area and I have some ties to the Wis. Rapids/Plover/Point area. When Anna said SPASH, I literally said out loud, "You've got to be kidding me!"
Love the videos. We may do a family Poland trip (no one has been back since our ancestors came to the US, so it'll be emotional)...so your videos are almost like advance prep. Not to mention giving some awesome recipes.
It is a small world isn't it? I'm so glad to hear that you want to come see Poland, and I hope that you do some day. Thanks for watching!
Hello Adrianna
Greetings from Florida,
I was in Bydgzcz Poland , in 1995, flew over from Florida to see a girl that taught English at a college there she was polish had a fun time went all through Poland. David
I’m not sure about the 3-meat dish, but the dumplings are called “kluski na parze” or “pampuchy”.
Just found you two. I love the easy, laid back way that you present Poland and foody stuff for all to enjoy. It is a real dream of mine to, someday, visit Poland.
Welcome aboard!
This is such a romantic story! I'm a 1st generation polish Canadian. I love your channel.
Thank you.
Mak Kwak forever !! :D gorrąco pozdrawiam :)
Sweet story. I like seeing Poland too.
Thank you Pam!
I miss my truck very....very....much lol!
My Grandmother was Polish, she passed away in 1968, man do I miss her cooking.
Thank you both for your service. Everyone knows the Military Spouse has the hardest job. Great channel. Thank you again
You guys are awesome
Thank you Eron. Your kind words mean a lot to us.
Maybe someday I will meet you guys in person
This made me very happy to watch. My family is Polish so I am interested in other Polish recipes. I also liked the trip around your town. It would be nice to see more of your trips. Nothing special, just normal life. Happy Holidays!
I loved this video! Thanks for sharing with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hearing bits from Mark while he handled the camera in the kitchen was fun, but now he’s a real personality in front of the camera. 😘
Really enjoying seeing Poland while you are driving. Please keep up the Kitchen’s Closed videos.
It's a surreal experience for me when you say you went to SPASH here in Stevens Point. Incredibly small world that I stumbled onto your site. Crazy! Thank you for sharing your story. You two are awesome.
It's amazing how things like that pop up in life for sure. Thanks for watching!
Hello from Ann Arbor Michigan. Subscribed awhile back but watching several episodes today. You two are sweet. Love the polish kitchen. Thanks.
Awe love this video and you are so amazing as a couple. Thank you. My sister in law's brother lived in Poland for 13 yrs. He teaches. He lives here now and I think he still teaches online.
Oh this made me realise how much I miss Poland. I have never been to Szczecin (we have distant relatives there though) but it reminds me of Toruń and Poznań and, well, Poland in general. Thank you for this and your story.
Love you guys!
Thank you both so much, blessings and you brought me to tears in a good way. Beautiful story. Cheers to you both
Thank you Nroma. We appreciate kind words.
I think you two are adorable.
This is great! I live in Eau Claire WI, so that was fun to hear and your story was very sweet. We visited Poland last year to see where my grandparents were born and I fell in love with the country. I hope to go back some day.

The two of you are one beautiful couple. It makes me feel good to see you two together.
Thank you, I hope to visit Poland one day. You might be the luckiest man alive.
Hvala from Cleveland, Ohio. We have a huge Polish community here and love your blog. I learned a lot about you today and Best of luck in your adventure's in Life. Na zdrowie!
Cabbage Eater!! Need to get one of those!!
The Kebab shops remind me of the gyro places here in the US. Same style of meat preparation, cooked vertically on a spit, and most of the other menu items are the same.
Wonderful on the go food!
You two have such great chemistry together! You are very enjoyable to watch and seem very comfortable in front of the camera. Thank you for sharing your story. This is a great concept for your channel... to bad this pandemic has f#(ked everything up!! Maybe you could have an episode featuring your merchandise you have for sale? I think you two could do anything and people would watch!! Take care!!
I agree. First thought was gyros! And doner in Germany.
@@jerzygirl714 I dream of Doener....and Kebaps in France, been too long.
Just found your video,it was amazing. My great grandma (busha) was from Poland, and she settled in Chicago. I live an hour north of Stevens Point Wi. I grew up on pieogries, cabbage rolls. Glad I found your channel..
This is so fun. I grew up in Manhattan, KS and my grandparents are from Junction City. I know Fort Riley well.
I love this one so much, wonderful story
First, thank you for youelr service! Secondly, Loved this video! Mark, I grew up in Northwest WI,(Rice Lake to be exact).
Lived in Eau Claire for nearly 15 years before moving to the twin cities when I married my wife, whos father was from Gdansk area in Poland. I love the videos you guys do, as I love to cook myself. Especially with authentic polish dishes! Keep them coming! This isbthe first holiday season since my father in laws passing and I am wanting to make something special for Christmas dessert.
So sweet! Thank you for sharing your story! For those of us stuck across the Atlantic, it is so nice to see how others live and experience a different country! To also learn more about Polish cuisine! Blessings....
Amazing!! I live in Chicago LOL. Came from Poland in 2000.
What a beautiful story, love your recipes
I have loved watching these videos and learning more about you two and your experiences in Poland. Love the videos!
Glad you like them!
Hi, Anna. Very interesting story of your beginning as a couple. You're both so young and so happy. I wish you both the best future a head. Susie
Thank you so much!
I loved the video. Realism. My parents came to the states in the 50's. My grand parents had a farm in Stevens Point. We just sold the farm in 2018. Live in Chicago. Some family still in Poland. Thank you for your trip down memory lane. You are both lucky to have each other.
Hello from Chicago. Thanks for sharing your story. I’ve been watching you for about a week now and I’m enjoying seeing and learning your recipes.
I was curious to hear your story because at times you referenced that you were in Poland but you speak English so well that I wondered if you ever lived here in the States.
Best to you both and your families.
Thanks for watching!
Pozdrawiam z Kanady.Szczecin to moje rodzinne miasto. No i moje urocze Pogodno.
Jan Kasprowicz was a famous Polish poet and writer who lived at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century. His name is familiar to every Pole.
Watching this makes me miss Poland even more! I was just there last summer for 3 weeks. Love spending time there with all of my family that still lives there.
