    This is A GREAT video on how to spin with a Great Wheel. I just got mine...it's an 1850...and I was stumped as to how to most effectively use it. Your video was the most informative if the many I have watched. Thank you so much!

      Thanks for watching. I was taught to spin the wheel rotating it forward however a viewer has corrected me and said it should be done rotating the wheel backward (clockwise). So please try it that way. However both ways work, I've made yarn doing it the "wrong" way, and it was fine. I just wanted to let you know that detail. ~Shiree

    Thank you for posting this great, informative video! You included details most videos leave out. (The tension control for instance)
    Your Straw idea is a clever addition too.
    Enjoyed the video. The fact that you’re also nice-looking doesn’t hurt. lol

    Hello, just found your video! Thank you for taking the time to walk thru the wheel and the spinning on it. I like the straw idea, and waxing your string! I do spin already, but purchased a great wheel at an estate sale, and needed your information to help me understand it better. Great video!

    I have an 1800s flax wheel that is warped. I will look closely at my great wheel because of your great information! Also I have a Minor's head but did not know one could bypass the larger gear and just use the smaller one attached to the spindle shaft. Thank you so much!🍭

    I just got my hands on a great wheel and would love to make it functional. Thank you for your video, very helpful. Would you be able to advise how to set up the accelerator, the piece that was being serviced?

      If you'd like to give me your email address (send it to rehashfiber@outlook.com) I can take an up close video of mine and show you the different parts and how it's attached. Great wheels can differ so yours may be different but if you see and hear what's going on you may be able to associate it to yours.
      Another option is check your community for fiber artists that spin. Usually there's a person in the group that knows a lot about everything.
      Good luck to you.

      You're welcome. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. I feel it is such a special thing to have because of the history each of them holds. I wanted to tell you that I'm a joyful spinner, not technical. I had a viewer who has more expertise tell me that I'm spinning it in the wrong direction. I respect that and just want to pass it on to you. If you're doing it for joy then spin it in whatever direction comes natural to you. If you want to do it the way an expert would teach it then the wheel is to be turned clockwise/away from the spindle, which would make it a Z twist. I'm still doing it the way I like because that's now my comfortable habit. I use all of my yarn and have not noticed any problems with me spinning it with an S twist singles. Happy Spinning. ~Shiree

    Some good tips for getting started. I find it interesting that the tool works both ways. I spin by spinning my wheel clockwise while you spin counterclockwise. In that case one of us must spin S and the other with Z twist! As long as we ply the opposite it is fine! Do you weave with plied yarn or singles?

    • @rehashfiber
      @rehashfiber  Рік тому

      You've got all that right, both ways work, Z or S. I weave with everything; singles, plied, core spun, art yarn...it's all so much fun to work with. Thanks for watching. ~Shiree

      Do you know other spinners in your area, or a way to find them? That is how I found my great wheel and learned how to use it, from people that knew more than me. Good luck. It is great fun once you get it working and know how to use it. ~Shiree
