- Dani explains the differences between Single Drive Flyer Lead, Single Drive Bobbin Lead, and Double Drive systems on spinning wheels. She also covers which type of drive system is the most suited to which weight of yarn.
This is an update on our previous Spinning Wheel Drive System video because Dani felt like it could be explained even more clearly! See the previous video here: • Spinning Wheel Drive S...

Very helpful - thank you! As a very beginner at learning about spinning - these videos are so informative. Greatly appreciated!
That was very informative! Thank you. I understand the three tensions now. I’ve only used double drive so far on my Matchless.
Very well explained, thank you so much! 😊
I have been spinning for a long time, but I never get this in my head. I love my Babe.
Perfect explanation!! Thanks
I was just taking notes as you were speaking, then I realized - just save the video! 😳🙄😆
I've been spinning on hand spindles since first spinning in 2008 and I spin lace weight, and I've been wanting forever to get a Minstrel but have no clue about wheels and to me it's like buying a car - there are too many of them- lol!
I'm so greatfull for your video and it will greatly help me in finding the right wheel - thank you! 🤗💗🕊️🌷
Clear explanation 😊
Hey there! I have been trying to make a Irish tension wheel for my mother, now i understand better what im doing (following a build manual) haha. Thanks for the explanation =)
Thanks. I’ve been spinning on my louet s10 for years but didn’t really understand the difference. Now I do.
Wow this video is awesome!! Thank you! You answered my question perfectly!!
Thank you very much it was very helpful information . Keep Safe 😊👍
Thanks, I enjoyed the info!
Very helpful, thank you so much.
thank you
I saw on another video for a double drive wheel, that they had to switch the drive band around (move the “cross”) to spin counter clockwise/ ply. My wheel is a double drive castle wheel. Do I have to do that for plying?
Actually, any Double drive wheel with a Scotch tension brake can do all three drive systems. I have done Irish tension on both my Minstrel and my double drive Ashford traditional. You put the doubled band over the Bobbin whorl and the scotch brake over the flyer.
Does anyone know what wood the double drive spinning wheel is made from?
Where does a walking wheel fit in this? It doesn't seem to like any of these. I have one that is almost ready to use so I am curious.
Drive systems only apply to flyer wheels, Walking wheels are an oversized charka and don't have a flyer.
