fun fact: Zuko's dad is voiced by Mark Hamill, in an interview he said he joined the cast because the ahow was rare in that it never talked down to the kids in the audience.
That's why he thought it was going to get cancelled, because it wasn't like other Western cartoons, but was relieved when it was able to be completed.
The arrows on aang shows his mastery of air bending

Aang doesn’t need a sleeping bag because he can regulate his own temperature through airbending, meaning he never gets too hot and never gets too cold.
I always find it funny that the kids were willing to play with Aang when he was a master airbender but not when they discovered he was the avatar lol

when you really think about what happened to Zuko, it really is exceptionally cruel, because to them the Avatar is practically a myth, no one has seen the Avatar in 100 years. Also it happened when Zuko was 13. Imagine a father painfully disfiguring his 13 year old son's face and then kicking him out and telling him he can't come home until he finds someone that hasn't been seen since 1924. It's pretty safe to say the "find the avatar" goal that Ozai gave him was just cruel way of giving Zuko some semblance of hope but knowing it would probably never happen and at the time this was basically a lifelong banishment. The only reason Zuko has any realistic chance is because of the completely unpredictable unlikely event of Aang returning out of nowhere.
Yeah, it would be as saying to someone "ill date you whenever you find the holy grail". Lmao, his father didnt really cared if he came back or not. He just wanted to get rid of his son whom he considered a "failure" of a son compared to the prodigy Azula.

you guys said Aang only has a few months to learn all the elements, but it's more like a little under a year. Bc he finds out at the Roku temple on the winter solstice (December) that he has until summer's end for the comet to come (like end of September). So it's about 10months, maybe 11months if you start counting at the pilot when Aang wakes up from the iceberg instead of from the Roku episode (ep8).

I strongly disagree with the fact that people often view The Great Divide as an unnecessary episode, just halfway through the first season the series is able to establish the themes of perspective and redemption that are so important throughout.
They way they choose the avatar with the toys is actually how IRL buddhists in Tibet choose the next Dalai Lama.

Something I always love about episode 12 even tho it’s not touched on a a lot is when Zukos shop reaches the eye of the storm. The apology he gives to his uncle for his early disrespect sounds so remorseful he genuinely sounds sad for how he acted. It’s suit and quick but very well executed.
Love the parallels between Aang and Zuko this episode. You start to see why they are the way they are

This is never directly mentioned in the series so I think I can tell you this. To master Airbending and earn your arrows you have to create a new bending technique. Meaning Aang's a bamf and he invented the air scooter as a 12 year old lol.
Idk about creating a new bending technique but you definitely have to be a master to earn the tattoos
@Steph_chibs There's a scene in the 2nd Kyoshi book where she is experiencing a vision from Kurik's pov and he's thinking about how he's already mastered airbending and even created a technique that could've earned him his arrows if he wanted. So there's a couple things that back this up.

Lighting bending is a sub bending style for fire benders. Its very powerful, but very difficult and dangerous to learn and control

Sadly, there was a war that was sparked by a soccer game, I forget the countries, but I think Ecuador was one of them... Tensions were high already, but the soccer game was the last straw. It was called the 100-Day War I think, however no fighting happened outside the war rooms.

Episode 11 is one of the more "meh" ones which i think really shows how good the show is as a whole because it's not even a bad episode
It's my least favorite but certainly not terrible, just entertaining filler. I think it gets a worse rap than it should because Nickelodeon would sometimes play reruns of ATLA, especially when it was airing, but because it was a serialized show, they would often pick more "episodic" episodes so they could avoid confusion if it was in the middle of a plot, and the Great Divide became the most played episode because it was filler. In a marathon, it's fine, but fans of the show were SO tired of seeing replays of the Great Divide it became the fandom's least liked episode and most will skip it when rewatching.

Something being in place as a rule or law doesn't at all make it correct or mean that it should actually be one, and even in instances where that is the case (that the rule is correct or good to have), it doesn't mean permanently scarring and disfiguring your own son is an acceptable punishment.
