  • This video is designed to employ various techniques in hand feeding baby pigeons, especially Budapest Short Face, from day one to adulthood. Short face pigeons are very difficult to raise and the techniques here will enhance your successes with the babies whether they are abandoned or you are supplementing what the parents fell short on.
    This film is dedicated to my breeder friends in Bulgaria, Stefan and Valentin.

    For a first time a breeder from such a high rank show his secrets. This is a big gift to all short face breeders in the world. Thanks a lot Mike

    Thank you, I am new to pigeons and just love them. Not familiar with the Budapest Short Faced, just rescued a street pigeon and aquired him a female homer. The street pigeon and I are "married" but I am trying to marry him to the homer female. I have bought a crop feeding set up because I had doves in the past that abandoned their babies. I very much enjoyed this video and learned a lot. Thank you!

      You are welcome. If you hand feed from the egg, then you can use a product called A19 or A21 or Kaytee

      ShortBeakBudapest I did as much research as I could, but I didn’t have enough time to buy these specific bird formula before the egg hatched, since none of it is selling in my country. But it’s on its 6th day and soldiering on like a trooper. Would it be alright if I ask you questions in the future?

    Really helpful as I am raising a baby pigeon that my friends cat caught. I have been feeding mushy food through a syringe and it has perked up in the last couple of days. I am keeping it in a cat box with straw bedding. I have cleaned up its couple of wounds with water and cotton buds and cleaned all the poo of its bottom and feathers near there with cotton pads and water. is there anything I can clean the wounds with other than water please? The wounds have stopped bleeding but was just worried about sepsis setting in. Have reared a baby pigeon before but it was not injured so any advice would be appreciated. I don't keep pigeon but people are always leaving baby or injured animals at my door. I am a marine mammal medic but not sure what you can use of birds :) Thanks for sharing your knowledge :)

    Can you tell a little more about drowning pigeon by grabing it wrong way?

    • @ShortBeakBudapest
      @ShortBeakBudapest  2 роки тому +1

      The crop of the baby pigeon is like a miniature water bottle. If you feed the baby and grab the crop when putting the bird back you will push the water and food up and the baby will aspirate the food and die.
      Until you are really experienced then I would only fill the crop up halfway and feed more often.

    Brilliant video! May I ask a question please? My bay pigeon is about 13 days old and only one eye is open wide. The other eye is shut. Is this normal?

    • @ShortBeakBudapest
      @ShortBeakBudapest  3 роки тому +1

      No it is not normal. Open it. It could have canker or ornithosis in it from the pigeon milk. Use an eye ointment if necessary.

    • @ShobaSadler
      @ShobaSadler 3 роки тому

      @@ShortBeakBudapest I was advised to use lukewarm water and wipe the eye and as soon as I did that, the bird opened the eye. So for the first time in 13 days I saw that eye open. But it still closes it afterwards, but it is not tightly shut anymore. It opens that eye fully sometimes and halfway sometimes. If eye ointment, can you suggest where I can get such an ointment for baby pigeons?

    I have question about the pipette size, when I wanted to buy them I've found many different sizes and I become struggled, could you please tell what is the size of the pipette that you've used in the video?
    also the size of the latex tube that has been used.

    Hi, I found a baby pigeon on the side of the road today, I took it to the vet and they said they can't look after it so would put it down but I can try and take car of it...they said to feed it mushed and watered down cat food? That make sense? Doesn't sound right but they should know right? I'm going to go to the pet shop and see what they've got hopefully those pellets your talking about!!

    How do you determine how much to feed them daily? Is it a percentage of the bird's weight?
