Honda CB450 Revival / Fixing Everything....And Then Selling It

- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- The Honda CB450 we revived in an earlier video is back! This time we fix all of its issues by rebuilding the forks, cleaning the carburetors, fixing a charging system issue, replacing the seat and mufflers, all before we sell it to its next caregiver. This has been a great bike to revive and enjoy!

Lucky new owner. Love the way Seth and yourself did the repairs without restoring it.
🤘🤘
My first bike was a 1971 year old CL450 scrambler. A good bike.
Nice to see that the bikes getting new lives with new owners after being restored. 👍
Always great to see them enter the next chapter in their lives
I always get excited to see him bike repairs ! Why I don't know I don't even ride a bike ! But I do appreciate you sharing !😂👍
Glad you enjoy!
You brought back to life and joyful use the exact model bike my good buddy and I rode to McDonnell Douglas to build MD80 jetliners. I rode a '75 550F. Years and years we rode to the hanger and shot frames of jets together. The bikes were as durable as the jets! Thanks Guys!
Awesome!
My 2nd bike was a '69 scrambler 450 with Bates glass packs and an awesome sound ! Man did I love that bike ! 🤩
I love this bike! My first bike was a 1971 CB450. That Honda and I went through a lot together. Congratulations to the new owners.
Getting it running and keeping it authentic to what it is. Nice job!
It was a charmer!
Solid bike. Once again the duo have hit the ball out the park.

You guys are a lot of fun! Great video!
My first road bike was a Honda CB 200, great first bike ,kept it for 3 years, traded it in for a Yamaha 125 scrambler and had great times with that.
Enjoy watching your bike adventures.
A cb200 is a fantastic first bike!
@@martinwhitaker5332 im working on getting a cb200 back on the road. Cool little bike.
Owned a CB450great step to the CB750, back in the day, and fun to ride now🤠
Super job guys, these old cb450’s are starting to grow on me
They are really nice bikes IMO. Perfect middleweight vintage
@@BrickHouseBuilds I’d like a cl450,just to be a bit different
This turned out really nice. I have used aerosol hair spray to install grips, spray it down and quickly slide it on. It stays in place when dry but you can still get them off with compressed air.
Glad to see it went to a good home. Nice job and enjoyed the video BJ and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Ciekawy film, piękna praca. Pozdrawiam z Polski.
Glad you enjoyed!
BJ has the Midas touch!
Always a pleasure!

I did a 3 year open checkbook bare metal restoration of my CB450K5 and have been enjoying it for the last 7 years. There are some quirks about the 450's electrical system. From the factory there is no regulator on this bike and the charging system when new was only good for 110 watts. Honda set up the charging system with a two step generator. One side was for when the headlight was turned off and the other was for when the headlight was on. If the regulator rectifier is replaced with a modern unit it must be designed for this system. The charging system will not put out full wattage (volts) until 3,000 rpm. With the headlight off and 3K you should see 13.7 volts. Headlight on 14.5 The headlight switch connects the two sides of the charging circuit. Some guys connect these together outside of the switch to leave the charging on full all the time. This will cook the battery if the headlight is left off for any length of time. Next is the light bulb wattage. The original headlight uses a low wattage bulb and the tail light is the 20 watt version of the dual filament bulb. Check your owners manual for your bulb numbers and wattages. My solution was to use a '80-'84 GL1100 headlight with a LED H4 bulb and a LED tail light. The BL headlight fits the stock CB450 headlight.
Next is the chain. The CB/CL450K bikes use a 530 chain. I 530 o-ring chain will not fit and chew up the inside of the engine cases. Don't do it. You will ruin the engine. It was hard for ne to tell, but it looks like that was an o-ring chain. Good luck with this bike, I love my 450. I have three other bikes, an '81 GL1100 standard under going restoration. A '85 GL1200 Interstate. This bike has been fully restored and has been my daily driver for the last four years. It is for sale on the Seattle Craigslist. I just bought a 2005 GL1800. It is the new daily driver (OH YEA).
Glad you enjoyed the video
The secondary side of the alternator is triggered in the headlight switch if I remember correctly. Can be confusing while troubleshooting.
I think the alternator current is rectified but not regulated. The battery serves as a reservoir for excess current up to a point. The difference in charging requirements with the headlight requires the two stage system. Tying the charging coils together can work if a proper regulator is added......
The number of different designs of charging systems used in this era by Honda is mind blowing.
in my bicycle shop days, we'd use hair spray to get grips on :)
Had a friend that rode a four fifty.Honda Fast ist 4 stroke street bike. KICK ASS TORQUE.
Love the OEM style wiring job. Nice work!
We keep it classy 👌
I never had been a fan of the smaller Honda's but you guys are starting to convince me different. Great looking little compact motorcycle. Good work fellas. On to the next project hey.
Can't really go wrong with them. All depends on how you want to ride
@BrickHouseBuilds I'm a old man now, so very carefully lol
Thanks for sharing this video of this 450 Honda DOHC its identical to the one my dear friend owned. Donny bought it new in 1974. I had a CB350 I bought new in 1973. My first bike. I've had a total of four bikes since 1973. All Hondas. My present bike is a VTX 1300. Love Honda. Loved watching the video. I wish I could afford to buy this 450. brings back many memories. I hope the next new owner geta miles and smiles of enjoyment from it. Thanks again this video made my day! Mike
Glad it brought some good memories Mike!
Nice to see some of those bikes heading out to good homes, I was getting hoarder vibes from you guys for a bit 😜🤣

Great vlog you Guy's, I've found in the past all you need for your charging system to fail is the slightest amount of oxide on one of your connectors & what a great bike to work on without all the modern crap to deal with!!! 👌👍
Checking connections is very important! Seen many melty connectors lol
Good the know I'm not the only one that struggles getting the 450/500T cold started.
@@miwolverines88 It definitely seemed temperamental lol
one of my, if not the, favourite Honda CBs - would love to own one one day. glad it's going to a family of CB450 owners, really awesome
An earlier custom build of mine was a cb450 and I just loved it. Had to have another
Nice job! I saw your cb500t for sale on facebook and came to watch this video. I'm over here in Springfield and I have a couple CB750s I like to modify. Maybe someday I'll take the pilgrimage over to your shop lol
That thing looks, sounds and rides beautiful now guys!
Seth makes it look so easy for B.J. to start it! 😅😂🤣
Thanks to your videos I'd like to buy one of these. Love the blue CB750. Congrats!!
You can buy thin steel strips to rivet on the seat base that has the little tangs all along it to solve the issue you had there with them snapping off..
I said in the video that would have been too labor intensive
This cafe racer I saw had a sort of “old bones” engine and frame and even wheels but new tires and and seat and tank, etc. o thought it was a super cool look. It made me think of Badlands
Just bought a '72 with only 6K miles on it. It's in very nice shape. Fuel tank clean on the inside, seat looks like new, minor appropriate patina elsewhere. I'm waiting for a few spare hours to freshen up the ignition system, then it's hopefully on the road!
Love those bikes! Glad to see it back on the road! Great job 👍

Great machine! Love the stock mufflers!
Definitely turned into a nice bike!

Man, when I think of what a motorcycle IS = I picture a long seat that 2 people can sit on & long sweeping exhausts. The gas tank
never stuck up between you & the triple tree. I used to deliver pizza on a Honda 360 & it was great in town...good pep & mileage but
in the late 60's/early 70's I saw a Honda 750four. A friend of my mom/dad's let me revv that bike up & it's been w/ me forever!!
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. peace

Nice 450
Thank ya
Saw the first cafe racer in my life today. Pretty cool but he rode off before I could pick his ear. I think it was an older triumph but not sure. I was digging it, though
I was cock-of-the-walk on my '68 A7 Avenger until I did a coastal run with an acquaintance who had just bought a '69 CB450. There was simply no comparison; the Honda ate the Kawasaki in every way - power, comfort, economy, braking and handling - ah, choices!
I would try to have a paintless dent repair done to that tank😊
It can't be done. Too much of a crease. Would need bodywork
It is a cool bike
Sooo satisfying
🤘🤘
Great video as always. BJ, please do another ride video with your CB750. I sometimes go back and watch the older ones and they are so cool to watch. I mean, that's what its all about, right?
We are actually gearing up to do the overnight ride on our 3 750s in a couple weeks. Very much looking forward to it
Good to Seth hard at work. The Regular Rectifiers on Honda's always seemed to be problem. My two Honda VFR 750\800's both had issues with Reg rectifiers.
The vfr actually is notorious for burning up regulators. Seth is changing hid VFR regulator as I type this lol
@@BrickHouseBuilds Yep, they're so bad, that a mate of mine told me to carry a spare and when you replace it; put a base-plate between the chassis and the Reg/Rectifier.
Miss the custom made bikes
Have you been watching my xs400 videos? People have been requesting custom stuff but my custom build videos go unseen
My RD400 is salivating at the prospect for a race. She's all fired up and ready for a conflagration vs. a Honda. Any Honda pre 1979...Where have all the Hondogs gone? Gone to scrapyards 'n barns....Where have all the Hondogs gone? Tarps for everyone. Why is it I have my personal two strokes with a combined 220 years of personal service and there's nary a dorky CB350 to be seen?

Don’t be surprised if that Amazon special fails quick. I have bought those and in my experience they don’t last long.
@Nine_883 Thats the risk we take to experiment and try new things
@@BrickHouseBuilds well sometimes you get lucky and a cheap Chinese component works out just fine.
@Nine_883 at the end of the day it's a low risk experiment and we got a sweet keychain!
Honda didn’t Chrome all the way to the top of the forks to save money. These must of been re-chromed.
👍🏻
Awsome bike and a lot better looking now after your fix. Any tips of how i can get rid of some rust dots on my forks ? I wish to change my seals to because of all oil leaks out when im out on a ride. But Im worrying because of The rust Will destroy The seals.
Check out this video of a Buell I had. Diamond files, polish, and superglue can do wonders ua-cam.com/video/tcBkblsA2FQ/v-deo.html
There is a dead short somewhere. It could be in the indicator circuit but I doubt that in fact. I notice you are not using the electric start, slipping starter clutch? There is rather a few kilometres of wire in use on the electrically controlled motorcycle. Need to find continuity between the positive wires and ground. Also check the earth connections to frame and engine are in great condition. It's about fifty ow so wire may be breaking down in a circuit?
There was no short it was just a lack of available power to run both the signals as well as ignition. In the first video I show the electric start and how the motor is just a bit slow. Doesn't want to start the bike when cold. The motor could use a rebuild but I wasn't concerned about it
Beautiful bike and another beauty back on the road but one thing is bothering me a bit and that is (which was mentioned here before) why didn't you just fix up that battery box... so much work and everything out... well it wouldn't have been that much extra work to just brush that box off and throw a bit of paint on it... I would have just done that little bit extra for the bike....but he otherwise a great job....keep them vids coming guy´s
If we painted that I'm sure the audience could find the next flaw. It always happens no matter what we do.
@@BrickHouseBuilds Ouch....ouch....quickly offended isn't it.....come on guys a little criticism is allowed....or do you just want words of praise, compliments and a pat on the head.....if you can't have any suggestions or constructive criticism you should just turn off the comment function......but he....good luck otherwise
I have removed you from my subscription list and will just scroll past you next time....
It's hard to explain if you don't experience it from my end day in and day out. It's always OK for it get thrown at me but never ok for me to say what happens when I upload. There are many people that look for the smallest of flaws or things not shown and point it out. I take what I can but it has greatly worn on my mental health the last 5 years.
@@BrickHouseBuilds I understand you but if you upload content on UA-cam then you know that you have to take the negative aspects into account
Trolls are everywhere and always present, but I am a Honda fan myself and have been following you for a while and have seen that you build beautiful bikes and have an eye for detail but if a well-meant suggestion about such a detail is received as a troll comment then I am done....
If you can't take that shit from those keyboard knights anymore ...... then just go back to your roots and stop with YT..... but I think you have more loyal followers than idiots who only scour YT to write lame things and I think that should be your motivation to continue and just leave those trolls with their lame comments for what they are.... they have probably never owned a Honda or for that matter a bike.
Sincere greetings from Sweden
You are right about having far more good than bad and I'm sorry I was short on my response. I'll simply never understand why society expects this sort of thing and it's never ok to stand up
Hey Seth, was wondering why you didn’t clean up that mount and bolts before putting the regulator back on? If I were a guessing man I think BJ would have cleaned and painted that stuff 🤷🏼 informative video though 👍🏻
Claim the mist of the lens was being artistic was vaseline!
For the UK, that old seat would have counted as pretty good condition.

@trinas7131 well to be fair I haven't received the 450 pics yet myself. This was very recent
@wmonkey4834 I definitely should have lol. Didn't want to promote a cheap item but yes, should have shown it like I said
I watched most of this on my phone in a Wal Mart parking lot and Subway sandwich. I think I got a comment in. Anyway. I thought this was all about the other 450. For some reason I knew you had two of these around. But then did you sell a 450 like a month ago? So confusing. And now the new "older" or "newer" 450 ~ whatever ~ doesn't have a seat or the stock pipes??? Now I feel bad about that 450. Maybe now the newer, older 450 will get a new old seat too but no black electric tape. Right? Help me here. Please. 😜
No we didn't sell a 450 a month ago. We recently bought 8 bikes, one of which was a 450 that we used parts from. That bike is already sold as well. I do have a cb500 still I wanted to build but it is also for sale

Electric start or not, someone got a good deal. For that price, having all that work done...that's not usually how it works. Normally it'll need a lot of that stuff done to it when you buy it for that price.
