Glad you don't have loud background music and you can hear the natural sounds
Thank you for the video! We started our channel 2 years ago when we purchased our Jeep. “Video scrapbooking” is what I call my motivation for making the vids and it’s been so rewarding. So far it’s been a $0 budget... IPhone camera and free editing software. Small channel, but I’m proud of it. Thanks again! MontanaFamilyTrails.
Are we going to ignore the fact that when he said, "first there's some prep-work that needs to be done back home" and the first thing you see Brad do is take a sip of coffee!
Great vid, you covered EVERYTHING I was curious about!
#caffeinated
So you put out a video helping everyone and take your time to do this and you get a thumbs down in the first 20 mins... No matter what you do the haters will hate... just crazy!
After 5 years of UA-cam I just have to let it roll off the shoulders... too many positive things in life to enjoy to worry about it!
Totally agree, keep going with the great vidz!!
Haters everywhere.... but they cant stop you...
Haters gonna hate lol. No idea the time and effort to put content out where it's watched for free! Power to you Brad 💪
The video is sitting at just over 1000:1 likes, so I'd say Brad's doing pretty well. I bet it'd be hard to find a better ratio on UA-cam!
Brad you could do a video of anything and we would watch it. The passion and happiness it gives you is apparent from the first 10 seconds. My sons and I love watching your videos, keep them coming!
So great that you and your sons are enjoying the videos!
OK....you forced me to do it, I went back and watched a couple vids of yours from 4 years ago. I'd say your 'self-training' has been miraculous. Goes to show what tenacity and striving for improvement can lead to.
You have the most enjoyable Jeep and offroad content I've ever seen. Absolutely love your videos. Keep up the great work!
Really enjoy your videos. Look forward to the next one coming out.
I do not have a youtube channel and I agree with you 100%, I get bored easily watching 10 vehicles go over the same rock and usually I just click off and go to another video which has never been the case with yours. Thanks for the hard work
BZ! Yep, that's essence of it. Lots of fun, hard work, and hours herding the computer mouse. The editing is where the art happens!
Brad, you should have 20.000.000 of subscribers. You are awesome, and your videos are the best around, for the quality, professionalism, and because of you.
The work you put in is what sets you apart from everyone else. You're creativity put together in the final cut is inspiring! Thank you.
I appreciate that!
These are very important tips! It is important to remember that you can make spectacular adventure films without expensive equipment. We started our filming our trips with a $80 Sony camcorder, very little experience, but great ideas, inspiration, and enthusiasm. I think some of the videos with the $80 camera still beat newer videos with the $800 camera. Sophisticated equipment only supplements what at the foundation needs to be a planned, thought out, crafted production. You could have top of the line camera equipment and not keep the vehicles in frame, or have no continuity between clips.
If I learned anything Brad, it's that I'm gonna continue to watch you videos!!
Thanks Brad / TR, all great tips and good to know...as well as inspiring !!
Everything with this guy seems fun. He is so enthusiastic he is fun to watch. Right up in there with Project Farm on the enthusiasm front.
Been watching TrailRecon videos because of how great Brad captures and enjoys adventures! And now he blesses us with so much more knowledge. He explained videography and creative process better than most "tutorial" youtubers
Great example of the VLOG jog. Appreciate the behind the scenes.
Hey thanks a ton for this help. I have been wanting to start capturing my trips for a while but have been intimidated by it all. I'm saving this to look back at.
I think we all appreciate all the work you put into these videos Brad! That's why you're one of youtube's top jeep channels!
So that’s how you make your videos! I always wonder! 😜 Hard work brother!
LOL! I'm sure you had no idea!!!!
I know we all really appreciate all the time and work it takes you to make these videos. I watch a lot of off roading UA-camrs and yours are top quality. I can almost get a sense of being one of your buddies out on the trail with you.
Thank you for talking about the editing. Often times great content is ruined by overly "fancy" transitions and special effects. Don't get me started on bad, blaring music and audio. I often politely comment on YT channels when I find a great video with bad editing and horrible, loud music and get blasted by the content creator, but who are they creating the content for, me or themselves? Your is some of the BEST!
Personally I like to see the old crappy videos lol I think it’s awesome seeing how far people expanded their skills 👍
I love the fact you closed it out by telling people to go create and then committed to go checking out their content!! There needs to be less competition for clicks and more collaborative efforts in the community.
I also echo the sentiments of a responsible drone operator, as a licensed operator my livelihood is often impacted by illegal flight activities.
Party on Garth !!
UA-cam is a collaborative media and we all can be successful together! Party on!
I've enjoyed your channel tremendously since discovering it one night while surfing for overland camping ideas. At 72, I had to find a new outlet to keep enjoying nature as backpacking long distances and trekking up and down mountains was becoming more difficult. I've car (base) camped throughout the U.S., Europe and a little in the Middle East, mainly to explore trails that led to incredible scenery, historic sites and fishing spots. Watching your channel and Chris Shontz on Venture4WD has been inspirational in providing exciting new ideas for the remaining chapters in my life. The enthusiasm you guys have for this way of life is contagious and I've caught the bug!
Some much more to UA-cam videos than I thought!. Wow thank you brad for the great content
This film gold I used to make the school news in high school this guy knows more than the teachers knew about filming
I'm fairly new to the channel the last few months and I remember thinking how well done and professional the filming and editing is. It absolutely looks like an entire film crew shot these. Love this channel and I wish I had a Wrangler lol.
Love it! Great info. It’s work. And it takes dedication to build a brand and channel like you’ve got. And passion. Thanks for sharing this passion with us. It comes through in every video.
Thank you, I really do love creating content!
Your videos are therapeutic, thanks for uploading the great content!
Very informative thank you. I do enjoy the crunching sounds of the tires going over the rocks and gravel.
Thanks Brad, we appreciate you sharing unselfishly every details on styles/techniques on how you come up with an interesting videos every time you post them.
Great video as always, Brad! It's really amazing to see the effort you put into your videos. The end product is excellent! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you! It's a bit of work, but honestly I enjoy it so much it rarely feels like work.
Every aspect of your profession (because this is what you do to make money) deserves compliments. The clear and succinct commentary, the variety of perspectives, the care about the things and people around you, and the appreciation of the people that watches your shows.
Thanks Brad ... this is a question we all ask and you gave us a great video with those answers that is something that I will love to do... thank for inspiring us
This is exactly the video I've been looking for , so thanks! I'm sure things have changed over the last 4-years so I hope you will consider an updated video to include drone flying and any changes in your gear and filming practices. Great job!
Brad's funniest comment "who I'm going with" Chef Marco always 🤣🤣🤣 Very useful video though Brad, a lot of stuff I've always wondered about !!
I like the practical and creative tips. Thank you.
Brad, you might not be school trained, but you could certainly teach a course. Great glimpse in to what you do. Thanks!
your videos are fantastic. I get lots of compliments for not injecting music at all into my trips. it's just the audio from the offroading trip 99% of the time!
Great job and glad you shared. It gives me a much better understanding on what it takes to post these videos. People like Chris Shontz with Venture4wd who is overland camping most of the year and the litebrite couple who post videos weekly from the road makes me appreciate the work they put in even more like you and the high quality content you put out constantly. Your adventures inspire so much so I am heading to Moab just after the easter jeep safari to see all I can in the week I will have out there as it is a long haul from Florida.
Thank you!
Always a pleasure! Thank you!
There were many great tips in this video. Most of them were more important but the one that stuck out was the one about staying away from most of the transitions available. The one example you showed reminded me of the old Batman show.
Brad, love your videos and have been following you for a while now being a Jeep enthusiast. Love that you promote responsible drone flying. Keep it up buddy!
that's one of the things I like about your videos, you don't show long segments of driving down any part of the trail. You really give a good feel for what an obstacle is like by giving a couple different angles of it and cutting into another part of the trail, and you really do a good job of narrating; that is a lot more interesting than music through a lot of it, and showing the spotter directing people over a tough part of the trail, and not editing out the mistakes really gives a little more reality to it, and really, I think people learn from seeing how a person might of got hung up or something broke or they had to manually lock the lockers to get up a part; it all makes people think about what the difference of having the lockers engaged or not having them engaged; it can be the difference of spinning out or grabbing enough traction to crawl up the rocks! I'm wanting to learn, and that is my main purpose of watching, but it's great to see some of the super nice people you hit the trails with as well!
More Power to you Brad & your group putting out totally awesome videos!
I have been to many of the desert area's you show, you give a new life to Death Valley & Joshua Tree for me in your video's.
I can say you do a great job putting all this content together on your UA-cam channel video's, yeah I love the dessert when the flowers are blooming red in April.
Your videos are a great source for future expeditions for all us home bound in the northeast (waiting on Corvid 19 to die off like the oceans in the desert) we will be coming back west soon to revisit the places you show that we missed the 1st time.
Please keep it coming, for me it is a great hope that things will get better in the near future, thanks again Brad.
Man , I think its really nice of you to help people out like you do. You already take most of us places we cant go on our own and let us join you in a sense. I watch a lot of off road videos ....mainly to see places I cant go and get driving tips on hairy obstacles , hehe. You are the only one that really gives tips on how to get out and do it yourself. I appreciate it..We appreciate it .
Wow, Brad, I loved this video and consider it as one of your most interesting to see what is involved in your great adventures. Your a true producer and master at what you do and that is why so many of us love watching your channel. I would just like to thank you. This was such a helpful video that it should have been for sale, hehe.
Awesome tips Brad! Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate the work that goes into your videos and it's so nice seeing the behind the scenes thanks
You are literally the channel with the highest filming quality on UA-cam I feel and the fact that you are showing us how it is done is really appreciated
Awesome! I want to do more of this when we get back from Asia! Thanks Brad!
Thanks for this video Brad. While the sexy trail shots get all the glory your underdog in all of your videos is your quality audio. Often over looked by many it makes your videos professional
OJT is the best way to learn!! thanks for the tips and tricks !!
Excellent video, I love to see how the sausage is made. I have mentioned your videos to may as I was always impressed by your work. Keep them coming!
Fantastic video! Your points really resonate, as far as transitions and use of music. Getting to hear the vehicles crunching down the road is a big part of why I like your videos. Thanks for taking the time to do this!
Great video Brad - I think a lot of people, including myself, think making a successful video/UA-cam channel can just happen, you show that it takes a LOT of work. I personally appreciate your effort.
Awesome, Brad! Thank you! Makes me want to go back and edit and publish some of the video I took at EJS in 2018!
Love it! We are enjoying making videos with our Diesel Wrangler and Xventure XV3 . Thanks Brad!
Just came upon this video. Our family full time RV travels and just recently started to share our adventures and also just started the overland thing with our Jeep. What great information and I’ll have to try some of those techniques 👍🏻
Fantastic video, the best I've scene (sic). I'll watch it again, then find some more of your videos.
As a Jeep fan from Europe, I also enjoy the beauty of the north american landscape and nature! Thanks for bringing all that into my home.
I've been wheeling for 40 years. Back in the day we took A lot of pictures.
Of course digital video hadn't been invented yet. Damn I'm old. I love off roading. I was Rock crawling hill climbing overlanding long before it became so popular in recent years. It's amazing and awesome. I discovered UA-cam and became addicted to your channel and others.
Anyway my brother calls me and asked me if I wanted to run up to Disney Oklahoma and go wheeling for the day. I said yes of coarse. When we arrived I decided to break out my smart phone and video while we rode the trails.
After viewing the footage I thought I would edit a video together which I did. Then I thought what the heck create a channel and upload it. I've done only 3 wheeling trips 12 videos. I love doing it. I'm getting an evo 2 PRO drone and recently purchased a 4k video camera. Check it out I know I have a lot to learn but I'll get there. Thank you for all your tips. I will certainly apply all of them. Thank you.
Brad, thanks for sharing this behind-the-scenes video. I have been creating videos for my family and putting them on UA-cam. I stopped because I didn’t feel like they were getting what I wanted from them. With these tips though I’m gonna put my equipment back to use.
Love the bts of how your adventures are filmed!
Nice to see I'm not the olny jeeper / UA-camr using the that gimbal. They take up space and take time to setup but definitely helps smoth cplis. Also use a Cannon 90 and m50 for super lightweight. Enjoy the behind the scenes, reminds me of our events and filming.
Awesome! It's great to see behind the scenes. 👌
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Thank you for sharing Brad. This is so informative and helpful. This video is another fine example of your enthusiasm for offroading and the work you put in to bring top-notch content to us.
Thanks so much for sharing, Awesome Info!!! 👊
Something I noticed that you didn't mention in the video is the composition of your video of the Jeep. So many people film "the Jeep", which usually means aiming the camera at the center of the body and leaving it there. You move from the grill, and then crouch to show the steering angle, then to show the wheel movement over the terrain, panning to the rear to show the axle articulation... It's much more dynamic and interesting. I think it shows the camerawork benefits from an experienced offroader that knows what the truck is doing and what is interesting in the details. So much more than just a car driving by a tripod at window-height.
Always enjoy your videos, the camera work and editing show a lot of effort and planning. And you have a cooperative son, that's a big help in getting better footage. Having a second person who knows how to use the equipment and compose a shot is huge.
YT - primarily real people having real adv's, love it
Passion is the key to success. Great job Brad, very interesting.
Good video. This has reenforced why we find ourselves rarely shooting video on trips and just sticking to photographs.
Absolutely loved this video!! Great job!
I really enjoy your videos of the off-road adventures. I appreciate the hard work that you put in to them because it really shows.
Thank you for the helpful tips!
I very much enjoyed this video.
I am going to use some of your ideas in my video uploads.
I remember asking the last video how you make steady shots and boom comes this one. Thank you for the content and sharing how you make your videos.
Like always very helpful; thank you for taking the time and sharing.
This is such a great video! Well done Brad and thank you.
Your videos are like pieces of art! I love watching your videos!
I love your channel and content. Wish we had trails like this in texas. Thamk you for also sharing your tips on all you do. Im trying to video all my trips with my young family.
Thank you Brad, just what I needed to see
Thank you Brad, I really enjoy your channel and look forward to getting out in my a re ea and start filming next month!!
Very nice of you!
Thank you very much for the advice
In the Trail Recon Adventures... Seems Fair... Brad does all the Filming and Editing... Marco does the Grocery Shopping and Cooking... # EqualsHappiness! 😃
I've been studying your videos for over a year. You've reached a level of quality and mix of entertainment / information in your videos that many of us aspire to reach. Thanks for all your hard work. -Justin (Better Biomed channel on UA-cam)
Great behind the camera info! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the behind the scenes look - very informative! You've given me some good ideas for my Canon 70d, GoPro, and new Mavic Mini. I had to laugh when you mentioned folks having all of this video and then doing nothing with it... that's me!
Even though this is an older video its exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Always love your stuff, your approach and just your easy attitude with everything. The hard work over the years shows! Keep it up please, your stuff is among my favorite stuff on UA-cam!
Brad, wonderful basic instructional video.
Awesome thanks so much Brad 😍😃
As person who loves photography and videography, in addition to Jeeping and ATVing, I have to admit, this was one of my favourite videos you have done. Love the behind the scenes of your videos. Hope to meet up somewhere in BC when you make your Alaska Trip.
ok, i've watched this probably a dozen times now and you've inspired me to step up the game... after years and years of just gopro footage, i just picked up a 90d for channel videos! now to see how much i can kick it up a notch with a proper camera and proper glass! not 100% on a gimbal yet, but we're going to see... never owned one of those before, but if I do i might just have to snag the new RS3 that just dropped.
To be honest, I wasn't sure I wanted to watch this video, as I've tried producing videos in the past and found it to be a distraction from the adventure. But, I am glad I watched. You distilled the process and techniques down to a manageable level. Sure, there are lots of details that weren't covered, but you hit most of the important ones. Honestly, it has peaked my interest enough to perhaps prompt me to give it a shot again.
As always, thanks much for sharing.
Steve
This is good stuff! Thanks for sharing.
Always look forward to your videos. Top notch as always!
Thanks for the tips !
