      Mahalo Danielle dor enjoying my channel so much that you want more videos! Unfortunately I only do it once a week for health reasons. I eat healthy most of the week and only eat out on Fridays. I might do it more if a friend invites me out. Plus editing takes time. And with a job and child that's really hard to do more than one video. I will have two for the week after next since I was invited out again. So stay tuned!

    I imagine these types of restaurants are struggling with meat prices being so high and then have to pass higher prices on to customers.

    Hi Sista, miss all of these grinds. My wife was born on Oahu, grew up in Kaneohe, lived in Kauai as well. We are in our late 60s now. Need to get back & check out the Mom & Pop restaurants you talk about. Keep up the great vids.

    Looks like there are quite a few new hotpot places on Oahu, and I am excited to add this one to my list! Thanks for the heads-up about needing reservations and the byob. It's always good to see your videos and get your opinions on the quality of foods offered. Thanks again, M! Cheers from Maine! 🤙

      Hi Samantha! Yes lots of hot pot places here. But all different. Most are Chinese based so I thought this Japanese one was unique. Another great one in Kapolei is Auntys Hot Pot in the mall. She's the OG hot pot and it's Taiwanese.

    Kamitoku Ramen in Ward Village ROCKS! I was sad to hear that they will be gone when that shopping center is taken out. The waiters did mention that they have a Kamitoku Hot Pot; thank you for doing the review - I'll be sure to check them out.

      @FoodFiend  Рік тому +1

      That is just too bad they are tearing down that shopping center too! Too many good restaurants there that they are displacing. You're welcome and I hope you get your ramen fix there soon. Hot Pot is only for dinner and you can get the same ramen from Ward for lunch.

      @@FoodFiend Thanks for the tips. It looks like the Kapiolani Hot Pot location only has Tsukemen, but if the quality's anything like their Ward shop, I'm sure that's good enough. Meanwhile, I'll have to visit the Ward location for their Ramen as much as possible before they close shop. Mahalo!

    I bought a hotpot so I could put whatever I want in it. The only problem is that its still in the box lol May as well mention the do-it-all breadmaker that hasn't done anything yet in the box for a year. Anyways food looks good. Even with the small portions I would probably still be full af 😂 Nice to see T again. Thanks for the early video treat!

      🤣 Kevin. I have many appliances I try once and then don't use. My juicer sits there with a sad face. We do use our hot pot at home though. We only use tomato broth from China but I like to taste different kinds like this one from Japan. Hope your appliances see the sunlight soon! 🌞

    For the porridge, you can make it thicker like a risotto if you cook it longer in the broth (on a rolling simmer) - the rice grains will plump up. Growing up we would turn off the heat and add the egg last (scrambling it in like she did). Sooo good. It's a great way to finish enjoying the broth and all of the flavors of whatever was cooked. Plus you're usually using up old rice.

      @@FoodFiend - the portions were on the smaller side, but looks like quality was there. Love the idea of the rice porridge at the end and your adding oyster mushrooms & more beef was brilliant (I'm going to make beef broth jook & add the same).
      Amazing that the meat tasted good without a dipping sauce. I was too hungry after watching your delicious hotpot & went off to eat after making the brief comment above - should've known to have food at the ready but it wasn't Friday (lol).

    Hey Misty! Hot pot is one of our absolute favorites and we can eat it even if it’s over 100 degrees outside. It’s hard to believe they don’t replenish the broth during your meal if you run out. We’d be nervous of running out and would probably overfill the pot trying to make sure we could cook everything!! Other than that, everything looked delicious. The rice porridge at the end looked like congee and when you said it was sweet reminded us of a couple of Filipino desserts that’s a little similar called Biko and Suman. As always another great video. Mahalo for sharing!! Happy Aloha Friday!!

    • @FoodFiend
      @FoodFiend  Рік тому +1

      Hi Michelle and Jose! Yes I think maybe the broth takes forever to make so they only have so much which is why no refills? The porridge at the end is not sweet like biko or suman. Like a Japanese food sweetness with savory. Hard to explain but if you know what I mean? BTW I loooove biko and suman. Probably because of the stickiness and Coconut milk. 🤤

    • @michellejosefoodandtravel
      @michellejosefoodandtravel Рік тому

      @@FoodFiend yeah we can see that making the broth may take awhile so definitely understandable if they can’t provide refills. We wish we could bring you some Biko and Suman when we go there in September. My mom (Michelle’s) makes amazing Suman and Biko but not sure if it would withstand the travel there since we’re stopping in Maui for a few days before flying on to O’ahu. Have you tried the Valerio’s there in Waipahu? The ones in California sell Biko but not sure if the one there sells it too!!

    • @FoodFiend

      I understand about cooking, but you literally throw it in and not pay attention to it. Grilling is a different story because you might burn the meat. I love hot pot as long as the broth is yummy and there's yummy dipping sauces. :)
