OK, so I just made this and followed the recipe to the "T" even used lard aka meat butter LOL. The only thing I couldn't get was the wieners.... ended up using Nathan's dogs. So here's what I think about it. Are you sitting down? THESE WERE THE BOMB!!! THAT MEAT SAUCE! OMG! Honestly this is a keeper and I will be making this again. Anyone seeing this review, it's totally worth making. All I heard from my wife was mmmmm, mm, mmm, this is really good :) That's how good it is/was. Thanks again for sharing this recipe. Nice video. When I make a meat sauce I brown the ground beef in beef broth. This helps the beef get very fine easier. Yours turned out good without having to mash it. I liked the consistency of what I saw.. Wet but not soupy like many Coney Sauce Recipes. I"ll have to give tis a try. Hopefully sooner rather than later !!!

Thanks for this. I grew up in Cranston, RI but moved away 30 years ago. Love the recipe. The only thing I added was garlic to saute with the onion. Now that I tasted it, I don't even think that's necessary. My son's really like them. ❤

Do you mean Tablespoons of spices, not teaspoons? That seemed like a lot of spices in that mix. Update: The spice ratio is spot on. It seems better than Guy Fieri's mix which included cinnamon! Blah! I've made this twice now. I used tablespoons instead of teaspoons and even added a little more garlic, onion powder, paprika chili powder and cumin for 1 lbs of ground beef. 4 weenies at Olneyville NY System is around $16 now. Not only is your recipe as good or better, you saved me a lot of money and a trip to Olneyville. Thank you very much.

Thank you again for de-mystifying this recipe. More and more I'm finding I can make things better at home than I can get at a restaurant. My son and I were at the Cranston location of ONYS and he tasted the meat sauce by itself. He said it didn't taste like anything. I did the same and he was right. Very little to no seasoning. Restaurants everywhere are cutting corners and serving sub-par food.
YW, No problem at all!! Ya definitely can make better food at home, adjusting the ingredients to your taste, those old school wiener places have decades old recipes, pretty bland and lots of grease to me, guess that was the flavor they liked lol. I just made this today, with the only alterations being all beef hot dogs and, as I didn't have the lard I was sure I had, I substituted 2 parts vegetable to 1 part bacon grease. It came out very good, with a sauce better than about any homemade I've ever had.

Thank you again for de-mystifying this recipe. More and more I'm finding I can make things better at home than I can get at a restaurant. My son and I were at the Cranston location of ONYS and he tasted the meat sauce by itself. He said it didn't taste like anything. I did the same and he was right. Very little to no seasoning. Restaurants everywhere are cutting corners and serving sub-par food.

Ya definitely can make better food at home, adjusting the ingredients to your taste, those old school wiener places have decades old recipes, pretty bland and lots of grease to me, guess that was the flavor they liked lol. I just made this today, with the only alterations being all beef hot dogs and, as I didn't have the lard I was sure I had, I substituted 2 parts vegetable to 1 part bacon grease. It came out very good, with a sauce better than about any homemade I've ever had.

1 Lb 80/20 ground beef..fat is flavor here!
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika (can use reg.)
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp chili powder
2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp allspice
1 beef bouillon
Squirt or two of yellow mustard
Splash of kitchen bouquet
Onion power to taste
Garlic powder to taste
3 Tbs lard
1 cup water
add more spices as needed to your taste
