On a cool night back in September I had the pleasure of hearing that trumpet play during this very same song. Eventually when I’m old and gray, I’ll still be able to hear it.
@@matthewkeegan272 It's hard to say, exactly - it's poetic, a sensation, an impression - but I'd say it's about trauma and upheaval being an opportunity to reinvent yourself. The song begins with a longing for home, for quiet and peace, but also a sense of restless energy. This builds throughout the song, with imagery of leaving home behind to chase the storm. In the final verse, they've got as close as they can, and there's a sense that they don't know what it means, but they know everything has changed. They can't go home again - the storm has wiped home off the map, and the end has come. Wherever they go now, that will be home - the beginning of their new story.
this is going down in history the fit, the guitar, phoebe. i know the end is probably my favorite phoebe song of all time and this is my favorite performance of it
same - saw her two nights ago and they played the bridge twice because they thought someone fell in the crowd. no problem here, easily best part of the song
Guys the amazing trumpet player’s name is J. J. Kirkpatrick!! He toured with her :D She mentioned him on tour and I wrote it down because he was incredibleleellele
Just saw the whole performance on PBS, twice. This song and performance blew me away, a real masterpiece. This incredible song, the creativity, the sound, the energy of everyone on stage, this is one of the most amazing performances / works of art I've seen in a while.
For a moment there was getting the sort of orchestral vibe I got from Sufjan Stevens' performance on Austin City Limits. Then suddenly the ending took off in a completely different direction.
I guess I’m just watching this every day until I see them in-person. Also, every band member becomes more intriguing each watch. They are all harmonizing and jamming so well, damn.
sorry if this is a dumb question but i'm genuinely curious how your dad is from germany if both his parents were from mexico and he grew up in texas? i just saw your comment and it intrigued me, just genuinely curious lol
@lou-xr5rz his parents grew up in Mexico. They moved to Germany in the 40s, and he was born there and spent a few years there before moving to Beaumont, TX where he grew up. No worries! Don't mind telling the story lol

seeing phoebe snd the band at gov ball was unforgettable experience. she took us to another realm with I know the end. i felt like i rode the space ship was probed and the sadly dropped off back to earth reality. i love her and the band so much she creates theses spaces within songs that so many people want to live in its so magical.
Imagine being on tour, playing at all these spots on different nights, with different sound systems, and still being able to sing so clearly and perfectly. That's Amazing.
Some of us are drawn to her lyrics, her songs, her skeleton suit, I'm drawn to the fact that's she's playing a Dan Electro Baritone Electric guitar with a capo on the 4th fret which is frickin' hard to do, and she plays it like she was born to it.
@@blainemarquise Well, I guess she really wanted to play the song in Eb, which, as you probably know, is the nightmare key for guitar. No matter how you barre or capo it, it will always be too high. She could have done it in D, with open chords, but no, she wanted Eb. So the only way to do that and have low strings . . .. is to get a baritone guitar and capo it at the 4th fret. Well, she got Eb, all right. 🤣
Smashing the guitarist instead of the guitar this time
Luckiest dude in the room.
God she's so pretentious
Smashing the guitar on SNL was the weakest shit. Bitch ain't all that.

People cheered when he started playing. What other kinda recognition were you thinking? Perhaps a hospital wing in his name?
Her voice sounds so different than her singing voice and it’s so amazing
Was thinking the same thing!
Me, as well.
why does she sing with an English accent? Guess its too late to change it now..
I noticed too, sounds like she's singing to the pre recorded track.
@@mmail4700 no lol it's just her singing voice
singing man i hate this part of texas in texas is phoebes biggest flex
This has motivated me to get really good at guitar so I can play lead in her band…
i rate this
lmao right?
my thoughts exactly
You don't have to know how to play guitar to be in this band.
Just like harrison
how does it feel to live my dream harrison

Who is Harrison
Ok nevermind

The harmonies really make a huge difference.
possibly the best version of this song!!! Just love everything about it
IDK... the tiny desk version is stellarrr
the SNL version was amazing too
My favourite version is the one in Seth Meyer's Late Night.
they’re all amazing.

Is it just me or is phoebes voice evolving? I love it!
Totally
Her voice is monotone and every song sounds the same….🙄

I really can imagine myself being her lead guitarist now.

Exactly!.So why isnt it a band? Instead of Phoebe? Very offputting
Absolutely in love with Phoebe's voice. Her melancholy is superb and lovely on the ears.
My dad is from Germany, but his mom and dad were both from Mexico. He grew up in Texas, so did I. That first verse kicks me in the nuts every time.
I always wondered what she meant with that quip about Texas and I'm glad she explained it. Not what I'd thought it was about.

Happy to see and hear the violin. Missed it in a couple concerts. Trumpet a bit much at times
I love I love it I love it and then the ending comes and I’m left wondering what in the world just happened.
THE ENDING OMG
how is the audience not screaming along to the song
They probably were screaming but the mics often focus in the artist that way you can’t hear the crowd
Since it's a taping for a television show, I expect that the audience has been instructed not to do that.
i prefer hearing her voice instead of the crowd
Well, I really wasn’t expecting that :-)

this. i have a danelectro baritone and can confirm.
Can I ask why it’s hard? Genuinely curious
I would have thought it would be easier, taking out that extra scale length with the capo
