Very happy with my ddm4 v7 after two years. After an SSA-E trigger upgrade and 1-8 lpvo it’s very capable from everything 20-500yrd. Barrel is a tack driver out of the box and mlok rail is solid enough to load a bipod and see minimal to no shift at distance. DD’s ambi controls just don’t do it for me personally. Own a SOLGW FCD ambi lower and a radian ADAC on my franken build and neither require breaking grip to manipulate the bolt release. DD definitely excels on their barrels. Have a noveske 16 match barrel that will slightly beat the 16 DD. The DD if you do your part is a sub moa all day. The Noveske is 3/4-1/2 moa. For the money, you can get the m4v7 for around $1400-1600 on sale, I’d definitely buy it over the newer R3
Opticsplanet has the 14.5 pin and welded upper ddm4v7 for $960 and slap that thing on a $200 aero precision completed lower and you a great cheap DD rifle. Yes I do run this build and the lockup leave zero movement between the receivers. I also upgraded all the internals of the lower and it’s still cheaper then a stock ddm4v7.
Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but has it occurred to anyone that ambi controls aren’t really supposed to be a retraining challenge for righties, but rather make life easier for lefties? I love guccifying my guns as much, if not more, as anyone, but I don’t try to second guess the designs. Funny story… I bought a Honey Badger awhile back, and decided to guccify it with a Geissele Maritime bolt catch and a CMMG ambi mag release. Mag release went perfectly fine, but the bolt catch wouldn’t fit because of the design of the upper. So I chopped off the part of the upper paddle, dressed the grind, mended the finish, and installed it. Great! Only to discover that, sometime after I’d bought the parts but before I got around to installing, Q brought to market the Balanced Bolt Catch that was only a couple of bucks more and is equally as effective as the Geissele.
Had a case head separation from wolf gold .223 in my m4a1, blew the upper up. Took a month from when I called them and when I got my brand spanking new upper back at no charge. 100% made me a DD simp.
I bought the m4a1 r3 and I love it it’s a great rifle but the ambi safety selector sucks. The right side selector hits your finger as you switch and no way to make it a 45 degree or anything. That my only dislike about the rufle
If you want a DDM4V7 that has an ambi safety selector, Troy mag release (located on the left hand side), Radian Raptor charging handle, and Magpul Mbus Pro sights, check out Daniel Defense’s Texas Game Warden Edition. I legit think it’s one of the most solid DDM4V7 iterations available.
I have a PWS ambi lower, (bcm upper) and I love the controls. My DDM4V7 works much better suppressed, (less gassy), but I do wish it had ambi controls. The DDM4V7 rail dose go out a bit far, so it's harder to get a wrench on the muzzle device. Still love the Daniel, but I have it set up as more of a mid/long range gun. As I enjoy the lighter, and ambi set up of the PWS/BCM set up for CQB, and range fun

I got one for my birthday. Been using it for a week. I swapped the grips out for a magpul one and the trigger guard. But what I notice after a few days it would be easily pushed with your finger and you don't have to move your hands. So I think a little wearing in is needed for that right side bolt release to be sent home with just a finger and not having to move your entire hand.
I want the DD M4A1 RIII for the M4 profile barrel, but I also want to mount a can eventually. The only two suppressors compatible with the factory extended flash suppressor are the Gemtech Halo, and the Griffin M4SD. Otherwise, go to a reputable gunsmith and have them pop on the muzzle device you want.
I have a few ARs…some I built myself with the highest-end components you can get. Frankly, nothing beats the reliability and ergos of my DDM4A1…..the ambi controls are 100% worth the cost.
@@zenitzoI have the v7 in deep woods as well, it’s awesome so far. Not many rounds through it. It’s tight and very accurate. Recoil is fine. You can get the v7 in black and save 200$. I didn’t realize that until I went back and looked. 200$ for irons/ammo/optic/sling. The black one is right at 1,900 opposed to 2,100+. Also the trigger is milspec and it is good to go but for the price I wish it had a SSAE
I love my ris 3. I think it is much easier to grip then the the regular mlok from dd. The extra width really helps get good purchase on the rifle. My one gripe is that you may have issues mounting stuff on the front most mlok sections where the m203 mounts.
DDM4v7 was what I purchased due to the weight. The AMBI controls are a must for this wrong side shooter that I am. But nothing like CMMG AMBI mag release. But... that all switch-a rooskie you did would be FIRE!
Start from a personal budget standpoint and work your way up. When you get to a point where you are proficient and operate at a level that “you” are comfortable with then that’s your rifle. It’s all a learning process
The Ambi controls on my LWRCi M6IC DI was,the driving force behind buying it in 2018 as my first gun purchase just wish they didn’t have to have a heavy profile barrel and they had the MLok option back then.
I started with the DDM4V7, slapped some "essentials" on it & fell in love with the platform. I mean it's literally almost perfect, in nearly every way. I had my eyes set on an MK18 Quad Rail for my first SBR ( in the midst of the pistol brace nonsense ). When they announced the RIII lineup, I immediately knew the new MK18 RIII was headed my way. Took 263 days for me to bring the 10.3" MK18 RIII SBR home officially, but had plenty of conjugal visits along the way. Imo, the RISIII really brought together all the great things from their previous rail platforms, added a little beefiness, and gave you the M-LOK bonus. Couldn't be happier with either of my choices. They're both extremely well made, durable ( with some stylish flair ), and an absolute blast to shoot & train with.
The best bolt release system is the kind of one used on the Bushmaster ACR, Ronbinson XCR, CZ Bren 2, and the new Beretta assault rifle (NARP) to name a few. your index finger reach the button without any need for hand movements.
Agree. One of the reasons I support PSA. They absolutely refuse to do anything with government or military. They make products for the people and for many other reasons able to keep their prices low.
I prefer my V7 just the longer rail is kind of lighter allows me to do more with and the extra ambi controls don't really benefit me much even though I shoot left-handed as i have gotten used to it however a V7R3 would be kinda cool

As a fanboy and owner of both the DDM4V7 and M4A1 RIS III, I absolutely love the new RIS III! Love the feel of it, the 'beefiness', and it's just super rock solid.. not to mention the full ambi lower on the new RIS III rifles. I've been really happy with it.
@@kevinjohnson3925my understanding is that only the Brownells stripped M4A1’s have the SOCOM barrel. It’s mostly why I opted to wait so long for them to come back in stock a few years ago. It’s heavy but fantastic under longer strings of fire.
I’d have to fire them all to give an honest opinion. I trained on the M16A1 and A2 in the Army so anything would feel better. 😂 I do prefer a bayonet lug so I can get all stabby stabby tho.
I have owned 2 DD 10.3 and a 14.5 PW meh there ok I think the 2 main features of the DD rigs 1.Rail 2.Hammer Forged barrels that include the chamber which equals fairly consistently accurate great video!!!!

Got my M4A1 riii for $2,299.99 back in February. Absolutely love it. Ambi bolt release is one of my favorite features; I've never had any issues with reaching it or any weird feeling of using it. Favorite AR I own.
In practice what accuracy disadvantage could be created by changing your grip on your dominant hand to save yourself 1/8 of a second on a reload? Have you considered that when comparing? I have 3 of the V7’s and cannot see an advantage getting a heavier rifle with a shorter rail and a “potentially” faster reload that also creates training scars if you ever had to pick up and use anyone else’s rifle.
I think the ambidextrous feature would be more useful for locking the bolt open than closing it. You didn’t really touch on that at all. If I was going to use it, I’d try closing it the normal way and locking the bolt back with my right hand.
Just swapped my Mk18 Ris 2 hand guard for a Ris 3... Great upgrade, feels better and mlok is just the way to go these days. Don't miss the ambi Lower but my next will have one, probably. Didn't know I need a flatscreen until I got one...
I just can’t swap out the rii for iii but I do have a riii m4A1 on the way. Mk18 just to sexy the way she is. I do like the slim clean look of the v7. Currently trying to talk my bro into the v7.
You got to get a muzzle device like a surefire warcomp (for example) you can get any device that’s compatible with whatever suppressor you like and get it pinned and welded you don’t need to change the barrel just muzzle
I still feel drawn to the dd m4a1 mil spec+ with ris ii. I dont care a lot about ambi controls or weight. I do just love the way it looks and carr about reliability over all. Any opinions? Hows the carbune length gas on the r2 vs the mid length. I do not plan to suppress it and i like the 14.5. Also considering the Geissele super duty and some others i jist like the looks of the DD more

I prefer the quad rail on my 11.5" DD M4V4s. Solid, one piece, not too large. It's weird DD doesn't offer this upper. I guess most people want the MK18 upper.
I have a DDM4V7 and the M4A1 RisIII and I’m def taking the RisIII all day. Prefer the wider rail and ambi controls. A little easier to maneuver as well with the pin and weld. Both are great but head to head for me the RIII wins

By your own admission you train a lot and even with all your training you still don’t have a smooth enough motion to make putting the bolt release in another location (further up) make any difference in speed. Most people don’t train as much as you so of course it would make less difference with them.
I can see the M4A1 RIII is a bit better gassed than the DDM4v7. That DDM4v7 is running a bit harder than it needs to be. RIII rail all day for a fighting rifle, almost as sturdy as LMT.
I would just get an MR556 by HK for an extra 700$. DD is 2500$ where HK is 3200$. Don't own either but the Marine Corps uses HK416 military version for MR556
I'd rather buy a Centurion than pay full price for a DD. Yes, they're nice. I have a Block 2 M4A1 style upper that I bought stripped from Brownells and then pinned and welded a SF 3 Prong on and its a very accurate upper. It has the SOCOM profile barrel so its quite heavy. But I wouldn't pay full price for a DD when companies like Centurion are out there offering a better all around product at the same or better prices.
I wish DD would stop using proprietary stocks and grips and just contract out B5 Systems furniture. I always end up going with the B5 even on my M4A1 build I did with a DD upper
Gotta be honest here Clint, nothing and I mean NOTHING will be able to replace the RIS II rail for me in terms of chonk factor, sheer coolness, and how it fits in my hand. So far, I mean. 👀
I don’t think the updates to the RIII is worth the up charge for two things. V7 if you should get one. I’ll stick to building my own from top to bottom.

I like the v7 better. Lighter weight and more simple controls. The only special forces I am is the short bus kind so the v7 works for me.

LWRC is a great brand, but they aren't near as accurate as the DD V7 or the new RIII. Just sayin'.

Well, I do have a DDM4V9 and a DD MK12….Will be getting the M4 RIII next year. The V9 is basically the V7 except with the Pic rail instead.

I have a DDM4V7 and the M4A1 RisIII and I’m def taking the RisIII all day. Prefer the wider rail and ambi controls. A little easier to maneuver as well with the pin and weld. Both are great but head to head for me the RIII wins

I agree not perfect but finger on a weird Positions. Just feel weird and slow down time . I can see it . I keep my v7.
I like the hybrid myself with the ambi lower. Now if they would make a Split top RIII rail with a thicker I.D.
By your own admission you train a lot and even with all your training you still don’t have a smooth enough motion to make putting the bolt release in another location (further up) make any difference in speed. Most people don’t train as much as you so of course it would make less difference with them.
I will take the V7 hands down all day long. I own 5 DD’s and I love the light weight rails.
I can see the M4A1 RIII is a bit better gassed than the DDM4v7. That DDM4v7 is running a bit harder than it needs to be.
RIII rail all day for a fighting rifle, almost as sturdy as LMT.

I would just get an MR556 by HK for an extra 700$. DD is 2500$ where HK is 3200$. Don't own either but the Marine Corps uses HK416 military version for MR556
RIII is the way to go.
Might not as slim as V7, but it's even more bombproof on the lockup

I'd rather buy a Centurion than pay full price for a DD. Yes, they're nice. I have a Block 2 M4A1 style upper that I bought stripped from Brownells and then pinned and welded a SF 3 Prong on and its a very accurate upper. It has the SOCOM profile barrel so its quite heavy. But I wouldn't pay full price for a DD when companies like Centurion are out there offering a better all around product at the same or better prices.

I wish DD would stop using proprietary stocks and grips and just contract out B5 Systems furniture. I always end up going with the B5 even on my M4A1 build I did with a DD upper

I would want non-ambi lower with RIS III rail. No use for ambi lower and I need a rail that will hold zero as best as possible for IR lasers at night.

I don’t think the updates to the RIII is worth the up charge for two things. V7 if you should get one. I’ll stick to building my own from top to bottom.
I would say, V 7 is winner, simplicity is more reliable under stress scenario
