    Are people forgetting this is a fail compilation? Every truck doesn't just blow up in order trying to make it up the hill.
    There are countless runs done and the more runs you do the more likely the engine will fail.
    Plus I feel like 99% of the people doing this sport are rich so they throw a turbo in with a boost controller and go "ah fuck it, 100% flow"

    • @deana8052
      @deana8052 4 роки тому

      guys have 100k engines sitting in the dirt ready to throw in when they blow one. its all about thrashing it up the hill as fast as u can, money is nothing to 99% of these guys. its all about the show

      Yes, but they are all going to the same mechanic! going stock would win cause your the only one to finsh! But Money always trumped sence! lose the turbo's! put an american engine in there and maybe somene would finish! No matter how many times we ran her! American all the way! We have real mechanics to tune engine to win, not fail for feat!

      Probably why you saw a few of them pull HARD due to tire blowouts. There's no other reason a tire double beadlocked onto the wheel would blow in sand. Sand is soft, engine parts are sharp. Combine them and you're bound to find the needle in the haystack that puts a big gouge in the face of the tire eventually lol.

  • @vanwilliams6827
    @vanwilliams6827 8 років тому +16

    Peter I know you're a competent builder and tuner, what would you say is the main reason for these failures? Are they knocked to death, or simply massive amount of boost and fuel grenading the engine? Maybe too many RPM for a long stroke truck engine?

    • @PeterBjorck
      @PeterBjorck  8 років тому +29

      Hard to say. I think in many cases these uphill runs is very hard on these engines and the power is to much for the internals. But it could be bad oil supply and bad tuned engines as well. It is not just the localy built engines that die. Many of the american dutweiler v6 and the big V8 that have the tuners coming in from Us have problems with their engines as well. But most of the passes the engine will survive. There is also very high prize money and big prestige to win so they really push the limits to win.

    Honestly I don't really see bad tuned engines here. It's probably a combination of going up hill, high stress on the parts, and the fact that the turbos have to be pulling sand in so it's only a matter of time before the oil is compromised to the point it no longer lubricates the engine correctly.

    It would be better to bet on whos motor will blow up faster rather than who makes it to the top in the fastest time.

    What the,,, I have never seen so many engines grenaded and fires in my life.
    Clearly no one has any idea what they are doing. And no airfilters!
    And mud tyres on sand . They dig holes. Use a standard road tyre, then you have flotation.

    The 2wd category often uses paddle wheels in the dune climbing. They are blindingly quick too. One joker I saw at Liwa got 5,1secs in a modified Hilux with paddle wheels.
