how long do those engines last with wide open intakes and no filters?, well they have foam socks on the turbos, but to breath easy enough to be right on the turbos they can't filter down very small! right?
Seems to defeat the point of having all the horsepower if you can't give it full throttle without the risk of flipping over backwards. Needs some weight on the front or a redesign to bring the engine forward. Looks cool but i'd want to be able to go full throttle.
If it gets weight in the front it would obviously make it heavier but also it would make it harder to deal with in the big dunes which is the other 3/4 of the day out there. If he were only at the drags then it would make sense but i don't think that's all he's doing
do they put some weights in the front stop it from doing wheelies ? would be effective wouldn't´t it? like at least 40-50 kg to get more power to the ground without rolling over?
would love to ride in something like that at least once. Looks awesome, throwing those sand rooster tails up like that. What kind of HP does that thing have?
Good Ol' Southern California Weekend Fun..!! Then ya stop in the Mountains on way back to San Diego and play in the Snow before you get back home to the Beach..
Amazing machines and drivers with huge balls of steel. Is the fact that she's not flipping over on its back just based on the driver's right foot control or is there some other technology involved? Running at dusk / night time jumps the scary factor up by 10!
Why does the exhaust sound so deep? Most TT's and some class 1's sound like this too. Robby Gordon's TT is an exception to this, thanks to using high strung NASCAR engines, and the AGM TT thanks to the 8 into 1 exhaust. The rest though, sound extremely deep, and I haven't noticed this in any other motorsports. Is it can, exhaust, tuning for more bottom end torque, the massive displacement, the fact the the TH-400 only has 3 gears, and that dictates something about the engine build that results in that brutally sexy sound?
Glamis is a free for all pretty much haha they have rangers but they're just worried about drunk drivers and so on, they do require helmets on anything that doesn't have a roof and whips are required and everything
+MetalGwar or build a mid mount. older fwd pontiac, cadillac or buick 455, maybe some of the newer fwd engines would give way better traction and balance than an engine hanging off the back forcing you into a wheelie every time you hit the gas. i have a grand national 3.8 turbo setup i want to drop in a rail like this. less horses, but also less hanging off the rear.
Wheelies are cool. But it's a trade off. you can't go near as fast when you have to constantly let off throttle for fear of flipping over. I'd add a bit of weight to the front so I can keep it full throttle
observation, with the weight of the engine in the back, the front wheels will lose some traction. Given a bit of juice, the wheels lose traction. I wish I built cars, but I don't.. any ideas how to distribute the weight?
Bob Stubs they are at full throttle most of the time. Add weight to the front and it will go slow. Whenever the front wheels are touching the sand it's slowing it down
when making hi speed passes, put enough front end ballast on to keep the nose light and floating on the surface, but allow you to stay in the throttle by keeping the front end down.
yeah that doesn't mean anything lol a Bugatti veyron has 1500 HP and goes 250 mph and its a v16 engine and a formula 1 car has a v6 and its fast as hell HP doesn't mean anything its weight, suspension, aerodynamics, lol
+Santiago Villegas Yeah, the NRE rail is amazing. I've spent years in the dunes. Power is a HUGE part of it, but set up is final. Gears, paddle style, air pressure. But I would love to see the two go at it..
No kidding, if I was designing a Sand Car I think I would either move the engine forward or the back tires back behind the engine. Wheelies are fun I guess but not very practical for a race car.
Yeah O.K., it can ride a freakin wheelie, we get it. Maybe put a wing on the front? Keep that shit down on the ground, I bet they would get much more off the line speed.
Chris Step really? yeah right kiddo. I'm just saying, some type of wing would let him gun it instead of letting off throttle when the front gets too high. . duh much? don't get me wrong, watching that thing haul ass like that gives me a hardon too
Peder Hansen im pretty sure they have a good reason not too , im no expert in sandbuggys and these guys know a lot more then your average youtube commenter....it reminds me of a speedboat , they "wheely" the same , now why does boat dont have a front spoiler??? it would sink in the water , im pretty sure the same happens in the sand if you force it down...yet again im no expert.
David Martin the engine is in the back for control if the engine is in the middle or front the tires will dig in making it harder to turn and also makes it easier to get stuck and it's also in the back so it's closer to the rear wheels making traction better it's makes it almost impossible to get stuck and it's 2wd so it can keep its center of gravity down so it doesn't flip while going up a steep dune the engine is also in the back so if a wheelie where to occur accidentally on a steep sand dune the weight isn't in front to flip the sand rail backwards, and also every single owner of a sand rail has the choice of softening the suspension making it much harder to wheelie, and that's why the engine is in the back and I'm open to critique.
These RC car videos are looking more and more realistic.

I've been in these. Ain't no spoiler making that much of a difference with 1500BHP pulling wheelies on sand. Just saying. Just enjoy the ride
Mid engine long travel cars are the way to go. AWD would be even better. Having 900lb bath tub hanging off the back makes these things teeter totter
I wondered about that too. Maybe active aero or some kind of way to shift weight forward as the the speed increases
The entire point is to be able to do the ridiculous wheelies.
