You’re absolutely right, it’s such a tender film, made with so much love. Terrible things happen to Chiron, but he also gets the love he deserves. Moonlight also contains one of the single best ensemble performances I’ve ever seen.
I rewatch it at least once every 2 months. Rarely do we have a very good representation of LGBTQ+ in films even in this day and Moonlight is one of the best.

Watching this LIVE was MINDBLOWING!!!! Classy move by Jordan Horowitz to announce the winner and SHOW the card. Glad that Moonlight won. It was indeed a great and important film but sad that it's overshadowed by this confusion.
La La Land Producer, Jordan Horowitz just grabbing the card and flipping it around to show Moonlight was so iconic. I'm glad he did that, it was straight to the point and total respect for Moonlight to have a clear and firm announcement like that instead of them like wishy washy whispering there's a mistake. The host failed here to step up and clear the air but it actually feels better coming from the producer himself.
The first film with an all black cast to win Best Picture, and this happens. At least they were able to accept the award on stage. And kudos to the guy from La La Land for correcting it in front of everyone.
This was bound to happen eventually. Beatty panicked and gave the card to Dunaway - he should have just said he got the wrong envelope. They were both put in a terrible, awkward situation but Beatty redeemed himself by explaining what happened. At least it was not dull.
@East african 123 like I could understand if they call each other that when they're in bed or some in-joke... But why that need to qualify your wife like that AT THE OSCARS OF ALL PLACES?? Most Whites are born blue-eyed. So it's not that special or out-of-the-blue (no pun intended) The whole thing sounds wrong to me, a little perverse, like his wife is some shiny trophy he won
@East african 123 Why indeed! How did he think those without blue eyes would interpret that statement? Goes to show that White supremacy isn't just burning crosses, but also subjecting everyone else to Aryan beauty standards. And minorities in the West are constantly bombarded with shit like this on ads and the media!
@East african 123 Alas, the point of programming is that the programmed are not aware they're being programmed - and if they become aware, they'll rather remain plugged to the programming. For too long, White people have judged whether or not something is racist based on what they think counts as racism, which is an incredibly convenient standard for them. And more often than not, white people see racism as an issue of *manners* more than anything else, rarely acknowledging systemic microaggressions like *to my blue eyed wife".
@Jeepman89 hehe as if him being Jewish makes it less awkward. If the man were any other ethnicity or race who said that about their wife at an award ceremony, it would still be suspect. Why draw attention to your wife's eyes at the Oscars of all places? No one there is in on the joke (if it even counts as a joke). Just thank your wife and exit the stage lol, who needs the details of your wife's eyes! It just ends up echoing the cliche of blue eyes being the epitome of Western beauty. And coming from someone Jewish, sounds weird.

Jordan Horowitz: LA LA LAND is for everyone who's out there, never give up for your dreams *two minutes later* Barry Jenkins: Hell with dreams, im so sick of it
This is such an awkward video to watch now. I feel badly for everyone involved, including the La La Land Director. He handled it with grace and class, though. Kudos to Moonlight for the win.
It's also extra uncomfortable to me watching the La La Land producers give their speeches, since some of it seemed very rehearsed ("Here's to the fools who made ME dream!"), obviously they had written something out beforehand like most people to combat the nerves but man, that's really kinda hard to watch them get up there and actually go through with it, unaware that they hadn't really won. It's like seeing them practice their Oscar speech at home lol, feels like you shouldn't really be watching.
Aleksandr Boylan That wasn't the director, that was one of the producers. Damian Chazelle was the director, he was standing at the back with the cast and some crew. The 3 producers were the ones at the mic.
That moment when you notice Sam L J. Tear up... Because common even though... He gets the most interesting roles, He still spent his career playing a supporting actor... (which may have also been due to the black-supporting stereotype, not to mention he never won anything big) and now he witnessed a Great Entire Black Cast movie win the Oscar! The best category! I can tell those eyes love it!
Why Warren though? He was confused. Looked for a second envelope. Went to Faye for clarity. She read it out loud. You can hear him saying afterwards "It says Emma Stone." And then he was the only one one who tried to clarify. I don't see how he is to blame. He was just a victim of it all.
ALL I can think about is if Faye READ the entire card first, and they both would have said WE GOT THE WRONG CARD on the mic, and someone ran out with the right card. It would have been a funny meme and that would have been it. Instead it became this nightmare/PR disaster.
@@ricardo_sotorbs Warren is very mildly at fault for not saying anything but what was he supposed to do, really. La La Land was a beautiful film and fun and amazing and no one is debating that, especially the Academy. You can see that in the amount of other awards that they won. But Moonlight was a masterpiece with cultural and human impact like no other film I'd seen in a while. It told a story that was SO important, especially in this current day and age, and the Academy giving it the respect it deserves was so significant and it certainly brought me and many others to tears.
What's funny is Emma Stone was the only Best Actress nominee in a Best Picture-nominated film. Had any of the other four women won Best Actress, Warren would be staring at a card saying Elle, Jackie, Loving or Florence Foster Jenkins and he would have been more confused

Was anyone else IMPRESSED by that guy who directed La La Land? Like, he was so set on making sure the people from Moonlight new they had won he 1.) was the first person to announce it 2.) reafirmed that it was not a joke 3.) made sure to SHOW the audience that he was not making it up and, 4.) when Jimmy Kimmel tried to pass it off as one big joke and tried to get him to agree that "everyone should get an Oscar" he says "I'm going to be real proud to hand this to my friends over at Moonlight." Like, this guy is REAL, and he CARED, and he RESPECTED his competition, and MADE SURE they knew that they won and were respected and taken seriously for it. THAT'S impressive, and THAT'S progress.

I think the “this is very unfortunate comment” came more from a perspective that it’s unfortunate there was a mix up and the cast/crew of moonlight didn’t get the full moment they deserved. As for the other comments, I’m sure that was him trying to lessen the tension everyone had- you could see even the audience was in shock and the cast of both movies went from excitement to disappointment(& vice versa) real quick so I think that was him trying to make people laugh. Was it an appropriate comment? Prob not looking at it now, but he’s a comedian, that was his first instinct and I don’t think he meant it to be shady. This was bound to happen eventually. Beatty panicked and gave the card to Dunaway - he should have just said he got the wrong envelope. They were both put in a terrible, awkward situation but Beatty redeemed himself by explaining what happened. At least it was not dull.
He said thank you to my blue eyed wife and then the award got snatched away LMFAO
Yeah WTF was that about...blue eyed wife.....such a random thing to say in any context
@East african 123 like I could understand if they call each other that when they're in bed or some in-joke... But why that need to qualify your wife like that AT THE OSCARS OF ALL PLACES??
Most Whites are born blue-eyed. So it's not that special or out-of-the-blue (no pun intended)
The whole thing sounds wrong to me, a little perverse, like his wife is some shiny trophy he won

And Faye replied: "What?".
Order of fault, from most to least:
- Person who misplaced the envelopes;
- Person who designed the cards;
- Faye;
- Warren.
That is so fucking awkward to be up there in the first place with the wrong envelope and have no idea what to say, and then it would take even more guts to stop everything after Faye went ahead and ruined it. It's squarely the fault of the guy who was tweeting backstage when he should have been paying attention, and then Faye should have thought twice. Warren did the best he could.

Totally agreed.
Nicely put.
Not intrested in gays movie..
My fav is Arrival
Alex Melendez I cried while watching Moonlight.
Alex Melendez La La Land was th better film. But Moonlight had the IMPORTANT subject matter that made it win.
What's funny is Emma Stone was the only Best Actress nominee in a Best Picture-nominated film. Had any of the other four women won Best Actress, Warren would be staring at a card saying Elle, Jackie, Loving or Florence Foster Jenkins and he would have been more confused
And this isn't the first time something like this happened.
*Oh man, what I would've done to have Jackie nominated for Best Picture instead of Hidden Figures.*
Imagine what would have happened if the last award had been Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Warren would have to read a card saying Suicide Squad.
Luan Augusto 🤣
@@Luan1993Augusto Now that really would have been UNFORGETTABLE 😂.
i feel so bad for Chazelle everytime i remember this. Is the project of his life, i couldn't imagine how he feels after this
I'm sad for Moonlight. It was an understated film, the kind that rarely ever wins big at the Oscars and its winning moment is such a lackluster.
This win will never be forgotten.
Yeah, indie films don't usually get that kind of recognition.
I think the announcer lady still should have came across speaker ... Like she said La La land has been ... blah blah anyways she should have said after they announced the win Moonlight.... blah blah.. ( weird how the prompt cards she was reading was ready for La La land announcement 🤔 This was weird all around but since they were the winners should have got the whole announcement .. hug walk together go to stage speech ... part re started and done properly!
