I am impressed that the judges here have been able to separate jump skills and the rest in scoring these skaters-at least more so than usual. Rio brings so much joy to the sport, and he clearly has the flare, flow, and the basic skills that are noteworthy. I commend the judges here for rewarding him w/ good PCSs…for a 14 year old boy, no less!
Since Rio’s home rink is in the suburb area of Tokyo where I live, I’ve been watching him perform since he was a tiny kid in novice B. Coached by his handsome dad he’s been steadily improving and I am looking forward to witnessing him improve and mature for many years to come. His mom was a professional skater too, from 🇬🇧, the couple met during their time performing in shows touring on a cruise ship. Fans get to see Rio’s two younger siblings when they come along with mom in competitions, they are just adorable kids.
Since mom is from UK, it's kind of explains about the choice of music for his free skate which I don't think is as brilliant LOL
I adore Rio and won't be surprised that he'd become popular in Japan after his JGP debut season ;-)
