First place i lived on coming to the US. Bushwick and Halsey! Back in the 60s' It was mostly Black and Puerto Ricans and others from the West Indies. And everybody lived together in peace and in acceptance of each other. This is where i learned about pastellas and other spanish foods, one of my good girlfriends family was from PR, and she would invite me to her house and her mom would cook and feed everybody and she had a few kids to feed. So people shared whatever they had. Bushwick rocked!
When Bushwick's current demographic moved decades ago they didn't try to change the neighborhood, they just wanted to be part of the neighborhood. These newcomers today are all a carbon copies of one another trying to change Bushwick into a carbon copy of Greenwich Village wothout regard to the residents already there. I don't miss the crime but I do miss the blue collar character Bushwick once had. Bushwick was living proof that modesty did exist in NYC.
Are you kidding me?? When Latinos and Blacks moved into Bushwick in the 70's they destroyed the community. Half of Bushwick was burned down by arsonists. Gangs infested Broadway, the 1977 black out had thousands of people loot stores and steal. So ot's bad when new people come in and make it better, but it's not a problem when a new community comes in and destroys the place?? Maybe you need to talk to someone older who was around back then when it went from a white neighborhood and changed. I am not trying to offend you, but reality is what it is. The people there should have took better care of where they lived and take pride, but instead they ruined it.
You did a great job on this vid man and you make alot of great points i especially like the point you made about the condo's. They keep building them up but can't fill them up. Stay true Peace
Interesting piece. I wonder what happened to that building. Was it eventually sold as high-end "East Willamsburg" condos when the real estate market shot back up?
i love bushwick. I was born and raised here but sometimes things change. I'm sure bushwick wasn't the same 100 years ago. It was a german and italian neighborhood. Then it became more of a hispanic neighborhood that people raised their families in. Now there's gentrification and younger people are moving in. Things change and we just have to accept it.
Yea i was born n raised in bushwick Brooklyn right on wilson ave and its crazy how the area has changed. Lots of Hispanic moving out cause the white people coming in and therefore rent has become ridiculously high
@ claritsy i dont kno what part of Bushwick you was at but most of the neighborhood still got the same people its just little pockets here and there that got some white ppl moving in... We could use some fresh PR blood back in the neighborhood thou... That PR pop is dipping like crazy in the city... Bushwicks one of the last spots that gotta strong PR pop. and hopefully it could stay that way...
Im going to Bushwick to visit a girl i like, it looks great looking at the surroundings and backround, the people look like they could be nice, im willing to try it out, cant wait to go and see, but ive never been to brooklyn before so im taking my chances and trusting this video, any other things in this city? give me an idea :)
Lived on Madison between Bushwick ave & Broadway for a mint a couple years back. Def had good times but turbulent times of my life. A lot of ignorant sh*t go down. Glad I got out safe & with out a case. It gets wild in BK.
Buz touch of rock.. good old rock dance.. Jesus respect..but a real Bushwick person would of mentioned the rock Dance from the mid 60 to the late 70... ask your dad or mom..or even ur grand parents...i went to I.S. 291 in palmetto when it first open..lived in manahan between Wilson n knick. Crazy are Medina the cop days.
