awesome vid! watched all 45 mins lol i have the casitas and never braved going down to only 1 on so this vid helped me! ps cant wait for a royal legend elite vid! 😃
I went fishing at a pond and their was a Japanese guy there. He was fishing with a old chronarch and a Diawa rod with live bluegill. He told me he had a Antares (Calais to America) which he had in his bag and showed it to me. He also had a weird jig lure with a lip of a crank then He said that the person who designed that lure also designed the Antares. The reason he was in America is to study at Michigan state university.
Ive had the casitas now for 4+years and its finally now starting to make noises..drilled plenty 2-6lb bass on it with braid...gonna give the slx a try now
I'm looking at a Shimano SLX rod and reel and a Lew's Mach Crush rod and reel. Both combos are going for $200. Which would you prefer? A test between those two would be awesome.
Тимур Дусаев They’re both very, very good. It’s probably worth going after the slx at this point. They’re more available, smaller and aluminum framed. If you DO happen to run into a casitas, though...you won’t be disappointed. They’re among the nicest casting reels ever made at any price point
I'd also like to know! I have and really like my SLX, and thinking of getting the SLX XT or DC, but haven't been too impressed with casting distance. So, I've been looking into other models for casting distance, ease of use, and ease of dialing it in. So far, looking at tatula 100 and 150, Lews bb1 pro and a few other Less, Curado 200K, and a few others... I want something pretty lightweight with a small profile (what I'm used to). Another concern I have is getting used to, and switching between two different reels. Thinking that maybe it's best to stick with what I know for consistency, maintenance, etc..? Would love to hear any thoughts! Thanks!
Love all your vids thank u for all the effort.. How about rod and reel for throwing big baits like big glide baits or swimbaits? Would be nice to add to your collection since I haven’t seen you tried one and for us too so we know what to buy just in case hehe. When you get the chance I’ll be waiting thanks again bro
man ,i love your channel yo, but one thing i need you to do is by fishing line counter and hook it to your rod after cast, took the measurements after that , that's all , bro ,tq
Thanks for the video. I saw both The SLX and the Casitas and was curious about the Casitas. For me I prefer to have smooth retrieval over distance. If I can cast a mile, but can't land that jig right under a shade tree and smoothly retrieve waiting for that bite then what use is that setup for bass fishing?
i feel the same...maybe the slx doesnt cast as far +-10 ft extra who cares...overall the slx beats the casitas in most respects...also has that aluminium frame
KeepinitBassy I feel ya on the carpal tunnel, Im starting to show signs of it in my right hand and arm. Check out my lastest video on the Tatula 100, I show the size comparison between it and the SLX
Which SLX Rod were you using? I'm thinking if getting the 7'2 MH XF I need some length to help me load the rod up, because I fish from a wheelchair. It's defiantly between the M XF 7'2 or MH XF 7'2 I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm also waiting for the left hand SLX reels to come out.
IrAbynormal I was waiting for the 151 SLX too, but I got tired of waiting and went JDM . My Shimano Scorpion 17 dc 101 should be crossing the pond any day now 😃 can’t wait..
LOL I will have to wait to get the DC on the six payment program from BPS. But $99.99 I can handle, I'm retired living on social security so the days of making big purchases are over for me. LOL Gotta get the best bang for the buck every time. :-P
At 26:26 I finally got the Shimano slx casts a little bit further and better and reels better than the Shimano casistas so other than a little better backlash stability with less tension(UNTIL YOU GET EXCLUSIVELY IR SPECIFICALLY USED TO THE SLX )IT looks like the slx is generally and all around better than the casitas
@@THEREELTEST sorry it's my bad you did a good job testing as soon as I posted my comments in the time frames the very next instant demonstrated the casitas smoking the slx in casting but the slx still looks better all around does the critical care favorably in all areas against the slx?
Im thinking the SLX in the 8.2:1 would be a great reel for a flipping stick. It will feel great in the hand as alot of bass fisherman prefer smaller reels for flipping/pitching, good knobs, longer handle, you tested and said it has a powerful feel, and the set and forget brakes should be great for 3/8 - 1oz jigs/weights. what do you think?
Shouldn't all reels cast the same distance with equal spool tension, brake settings, etc.? I never understood people comparing casting distance on baitcasting reels.
spool weight, bearings, braking system have a huge impact on how well a reel casts, especially with different baits. Most reels will cast the same distance with a led weight, but a lightweight harbait, or a finesse jig with bad aerodynamics, thats where you can tell the differences
THE REEL TEST ok...great...I just wanted to add it to my arsenal for jerkbaiting....I have a citica, which I like...but mainly am a daiwa guy. Casitas may be what I need

Great vid! I have a casitas reel and that noise your referring to when reeling in, I call the crank whirl. I love the casitas reel. Is the SLX replacing it?
THE REEL TEST So it’s safe to say that it actually lives up to replace the casitas ( I use one based on your reviews) regardless of fine external adjustments....at least to me that sounds like a good reel dirt cheap .
Ive got a casitas I really like. I stepped up to the curado and am having issues dialing it in. Random, and might sound like a stupid question... but have you tested 2 of the exact same reels against each other? Like casitas vs casitas? I can definitely tell you're a numbers/data guy and I've been wondering how much, if any, performance difference there is in the reels we use. Anyway, thanks for the time you put into your vids man, I dig them alot.
Lol, fair enough. Its a new 201hg. I dunno man, I had bought the casitas as my first baitcaster (after watching your and other vids about it) but have been spinning and fly fishing all my life. I had been using 2 brakes on the casitas, dialing in the cast control to a slow controlled fall, and using the dial to adjust for wind. Got my share of backlashes, but overall seemed to take to it quickly. Stepped up to the curado, and with that same config I used on the casitas has me backlashing a ton. I find myself really having to crank down on the cast control to keep it from blowing up. Like bait doesn't move when I press the thumb bar, and cast distance ofcourse went straight to crap. I have no doubt its me screwing up, I just dont know how yet. With the casitas dialed in, it seems like I barely have to thumb the spool at all. Maybe with the curado thats not the case. Thanks for the reply, and in advance for any suggestions.
Medium Heavy rod with a small squarebill is going to create some problems. The most impressive thing about the SLX in this video is that it didn't completely blow up with such an improper rod for the bait being used.
@@THEREELTEST I didn't say you couldn't, but it becomes exceptionally more difficult and requires a much better reel. That's what makes the SLX so impressive at its price range. Scott Martin and Flukemaster have videos on why a MH rod with a small weight lure will cause backlashes, and you 100 percent are not at a fraction of their level.
You need to get your head out of other men's asses and go out and find out for yourself what works and what doesnt work. Obviously you can throw 1/4 oz and even lighter on this SLX MH rod as you see me doing it on video. So I guess that means you are 100 percent not on my level.
@@THEREELTEST you need to learn to read, sir. I did not say you couldn't. I said the performance of the reel throwing on a heavy rod for the bait was amazing. And again, you are not on the level of anyone respectable, so your snide remarks aren't worth the bucket I piss in.
@Michael Henson once again sir... you need to stop sniffing other grown mens balls and go find out things for yourself instead of blindly repeating what better people than you say. Oh and Im definitely one of those people who are better than you :)
Not really...occasionally, if I’m burning a spinnerbait or a chatterbait, it feels like it wants to “oscillate” a bit (fast, slow, fast slow) if I stop paying attention but that’s about it. It’s a good enough reel that I immediately bought 2 as soon as i found out they were being discontinued so there’s that for what it’s worth.
I may have to pick up an SLX combo, my K and DC are both pretty solid, but If I can save $ and have more combos for less money, still buy Shimano instead of Diawa, and only spend $200 on a combo vs $350-$400 for K and Curado rod or DC and Curado rod. Shimano may have performed a checkmate with the SLX!
Should I test the Daiwas at the same pond so we can get a reference vs the Shimanos or should I give you guys some different scenery?
Same pond
this one is good.
Can you do the Diawa Fuego vs the SLX?
same pond
do you have steez or zilion 2017/18 products in your arsenal?
Thank you so much for this vid, it confirmed my predictions about the slx, in my opinion I would take casting quality vs comfort and build quality
I enjoy your on the water videos, keep up the good work.

What would you say would be max distance for the slx? How would you go about judging distance? Is the 28 inch crank pretty accurate?

The reason it keeps birdnesting is that spool is not supposed to have any play the DC can’t work correctly if any play
Shimano needs to release an SLX sized Curdao K!
Why did you minimized the “side to side” plate?
side to side "play" meaning the side to side movement of the spool
