      art is one of the best things that humanity has ever created and as a musician I can tell you that playing together with someone else is the best feeling.
      You might then have this perception of music as a form of expression of how much good humanity is and then it might remember that, even though we have made so many mistakes in history, when we work together we can make wonderful things.

    The fact that Beethoven was completely deaf by the time he composed this, the final and most famous movement in his renowned 9th Symphony, is beyond incredible. He wrote "Ode to Joy" to accompany the words of a poem by the same name by the German poet and philosopher, Friedrich Schiller. It's a lyrical paean to the miracle of brotherhood, and what happiness can spark when mankind gathers as brothers under the sheltering wings of joy.
    My thanks to the conductor, the wonderful Rubén Gimeno, and all the musicians and singers who made this happen. I plan to watch this as my daily "happiness pill" from now on.

    • @patsmith7532
      @patsmith7532 4 роки тому +24

      @@imac610 , I think you are right. I believe that is probably exactly how Beethoven did it. He had to have heard all the instruments in his head in order to compose such a beautiful piece, with such dramatic changes in mood and pacing building to that glorious finale.

      stupid uneducated question: are conductors necessary? i ask with respect.

    • @patsmith7532
      @patsmith7532 4 роки тому +68

      @@pmacc3557 , I am not a musician but used to sing in a choir and we would have been lost without our conductor. He kept everyone on the beat, let us know when to sing softly and when to belt it out...he really controlled everything about the performance and brought out our best.
      Think about what an orchestra is...dozens of people seated in a semi-circle playing many different types of instruments arranged in groups...brass, strings, rhythm...and often, as in this case, voices as well. They cannot all see each other, so without a conductor, even though they all have the same music, how would they know when to start? How could they all rise to a crescendo in unison if they were not following the rhythmic motion of a conductor's arms?
      I know that to some, conductors just look like a guy waving his arms around, but they are so much more than that. Think of them as the traffic cop at a busy intersection without lights. They control the flow of traffic with their arms and whistles in much the same way that a conductor controls the flow of music (minus the whistle, of course.) Without a conductor, an orchestra would not sound nearly so pleasing, melodic or synchronous.

    These things make me cry. As a musician, I know how long it takes go coordinate these things and the effort that goes into learning the perfect timing and the rhythm. They must've worked very diligently to get all this together. It makes me cry happy tears because they do this for the people. They go and put in the effort to see the smiles and looks of awe and grandeur of such a beautiful performance.
    It's simply incredibly moving to my soul.

      +Marissa S. Richards They bring a few minutes of classical music to people who may have never heard a live performance. I wonder if the little girl who dropped the coins in the hat was part of the show or just one of the tourists passing by. If the latter she got her moneys worth.

    For those of you who keep saying this is fake because it's not spontaneous: No flashmob is spontaneous, they are often meticulously planned. If they were truly spontaneous, they would never happen since by definition, spontaneity requires a lack of premeditation. 50 people don't just show up in a public space and decide to dance to Beyonce without first communicating the idea to each other. You also missed the point of this video which was to enjoy the beauty of the music and the joy it brings to people.

    For the people who's asking.
    This is the Catalan version of the "Ode to Joy"(Himne de l'Alegría), from the 4th movement of the Beethoven's 9th symphony.
    The title is Cant de Joia, and the text was made by Joan Margall.
    Those are the actual lyrics that appears in the video:
    "Joia que ets dels déus guspira generada dalt del cel,
    vent de foc el pit respira sota els plecs del teu sant vel."
    "Si ajuntar-se els cors demanen, que un mal vent va separant,
    tots els homes s’agermanen on tes ales van tocant."
    "Si fortuna generosa ens ha dat un bon company,
    oh companya graciosa cantarem amb més afany!"

    Yes, it's an ad campaign. Yes, it was overdubbed in a studio and produced for video. But there were unaware people around, i'll bet the performance probably took place and was quite a spectacle for the unaware. And the power of music is translated through the video. Overall, really a nice thing,
    For those of you who "figured it out" as being a production....wow, can't pull one over on you. Lighten up...enjoy the production, nobody was trying to pull a massive earth shattering hoax or something. It's music.

      Living in England,with the stupidity of Brexit,I share your joy……….but for the happiness and unity which music brings.

      Have you started learning to play an instrument yet since you posted this comment? I started trying to learn the piano when I turned 40 nine months ago. I'm still only able to play a few basic pop songs, but that’s way better than my ability nine months ago.

      I listen to it whenever I am feeling down. It is perhaps the greatest piece of music ever composed. These guys do such a wonderful job with it.

    Hola aquí desde Perú!! Formidable presentación y compartir la música clásica, me encantaron las pequeñas y pequeños que se contagiaron con la música. Es una buena forma de enseñar y no dejar perder estas grandiosas e históricas composiciones . Bendiciones.
