This is exactly the issue with my 2013 X1. Thank you for the thorough guide on how to get the headliner and sunroof off! My glass is working but that back shade panel is stuck. I’m thinking I might just try to get it unstuck, repair the fabric if I can and then pull the fuse for the sunroof to disable it. Do you think it’s possible to unstick the shade without taking the whole thing out? Thanks again - this is a great guide.

I am so glad I came across this video, I got a quote from my BMW dealership and thought $5000 to replace just the liner was insane. I got them down to half of that because after they inspected my liner they ended up ripping the other side. I am hesitant for them to even fix the liner because of that now.
I would highly recommend replacing the entire thing, get a used full roof and just replace the shades themselves with new ones before install because that’s what the common issues are! And 5K for just the shade replacement is insane!!!!

Tried initialising it but no luck, I can hear a click from the back when button pressed but nothing else. I have managed to manually open the moon roof compelety and when I try to initialise it closes fine electronically but again the front only tilts up. The sunshade doesn’t move at all, does the whole unit need to come out to replace the sunshade or the track for sunshade? please help if you can.

Once you remove the front sliding glass there should be brackets that hold the sliding panel with 4 screws total on each that will be accessible once removed you can take the panels out! And most definitely!

I know you could replace the front one without having to take everything off as far as the rear i am almost positive you need to take it down but you could double check by open the shades all the way and put there should be an accordion seal on the sides on the rear glass (from the inside) push them down with your fingers and see if you could see screws behind it, if there is then you should be able to replace it without dropping off the entire thing!
Excellent, Where there plastic or metal rivets? Also do I need to open entire sunroof just to fix the token of clothes on shade , my sunroof mechanism is not malfunctioning?
Metal rivets are on the brackets that holds the hand grip in the roof, now granted that options did not come in all models and depends between euro and us market so yours might not have rivets but would only have bolts instead, if your mechanism is good you might be able to just take the entire panoramic roof off and change the shades!
Panel of the panoramic sunroof was stuck because the fabric on it had wear and tear and got stuck in the rails and damaged the rails in this case since the rails were damaged the entire thing had to be replaced
Excellent video sir, I'm about to dive into this exact job tomorrow, need to replace the visor on the sunroof of a 15 Bmw X1 , the rail that open and closes it still works, jus the material missing, note this is a single piece boardless visor,just that thin dotted hole vent material Do I need to remove the entire roof too for this job or can I just drop the woodliner? any advice, much appreciated

It’s almost the same I would say you should be able to get the F48 sunroof the only difference If my memory serves me right is that the entire panoramic glass and shade comes off one piece, the idea and concept is the same tho
Hi, Excellent video. My sun shade got stuck on passenger side when it was trying wrap up and got stuck there. 50% of the shade where hanging down into the interior, so I had to cut it of the moving bar and just stove the cloth under the roof panel. I have found a replacement sunshade to install but do I have to remove the glas roof in order to replace the shade?

I have one of these with the rear shade separated from the track. It's aggravating because I want it to work right, but I'm also not looking to pay thousands of dollars or remove the entire assembly just to fix that. I bought this car new in 2015 and have stayed on top of keeping everything in excellent shape, but this may be one I don't get around to. After watching this video, I'm not sure I'm interested in this type of job. I do see just the tracks on e-bay for less than $150 though, so it's something to think about.

Do you alsp open the Front Airbags to remove the frame? Ore is it enough to open the back Airbags lile your Video. To remove the frame the class in the back still in the car and you don't remove the class in the front?

If the airbag in the way you can remove it same way like I did in the back otherwise you should be good!
