Great song and I like the way she worked to bring it up tempo from the original, it would be nice to see her acknowledge the original writer and performer of this song. Most people assume she wrote this.
Yeah, The song I heard by Endaswap is basically the same tempo and arrangement. I'm not sure somebody without experience or musicianship would have "worked" on the song that much(!). Her producers kept it the same, knowing it was thankfully obscure yet a ready-made diamond of a pop-song, which really could make it big when re-recorded for a new market (UK).
All the media does is focus on this one hit song, yet Natalie's first album had other great tunes too such as Shiver, which I think she wrote. Plus they ignore the original singer whose version of Torn was more alternative but I liked it as well.
Errr time stamp 0:10 blessing us with her rendition.... clearly not her original, and then the conversation went on to the album "Torn" was included in. Plz pay attention guys. It's not rocket science.
They have no clue, it seems. And she should give credit to Ednaswap, who sings it with so much meaning, since she wrote the lyrics, and it meant so much to her.
Great tune ! Unique idea for the video ! Amazing guitar sounds ! Definitely one of those songs that will be cherished and remembered for a long time !! I was 13 when I heard this song - always brings back fond memories- although it’s a sad song - has an upbeat tempo !
@@harlowdella-bosca6998 Actually "Torn" was written in 1991 by Scott Cutler and Anne Preven with producer Phil Thornalley as a solo song for Preven. Cutler and Preven's band Ednaswap eventually released their recording in 1995.
@@harlowdella-bosca6998yeah the original song is from Ednaswap but they didn't record it till 95. In 93 it was the first time it was recorded by Lis.

No doubt she is a talented singer but her remake doesn't even begin to capture the depth & raw emotion of the original by Edna Swap. She really should make a point of giving credit to Anne Previn & Scott Cutler for writing such a powerful song that launched her career.
Great cover of Imbruglia. Listen to Lis Sørensen who first translated the song into Danish in 93 (4 years before Imbruglia came out), and made a top hit in Denmark! It did not reach so much abroad due to language, but was a big hit in Denmark.
The world also wasn’t as globalized back then as it is now, which also contributed. Forgive the banter, but globalization is the main reason Ghen Co Vy (the Vietnamese COVID song) became so huge everywhere.
These interviewers are clueless talking about her song writing when Torn is a cover song. The song was originally by the band Ednaswap. Natalie Imbruglia got a hit because she made it into a pop version.
Why does she get all the credit when the original from Anne Preven is the greatest version? Watch Anne Preven do it on Howard Stern show, it’s wonderful.
Tan bonita qe era ..en 1998 estaba trabajando en sandusky ohio..y la escuchaba en la radio..compre su cd..aun lo conservo..como a pasado el tiempo ... ya se mira muy mayor..cuantos años tendra??
The original version of Torn was written and expertly performed by a band called Ednaswap. Natalie Imbruglia's version of Torn does a disservice to the original.
Come invidio le persone che ti possono parlare ogni giorno, che ti possono guardare da vicino e che possono essere arricchite della tua presenza. Forse non se ne rendono conto, ma sono fortunatissime! Beate loro!
Her son deserves a whole album. I have the original copy of Firebird and it's beautiful how the first thing that appears written in the book of the album is "For Max". In her own words, this album is autobiographical. Natalie has always been a great person. In relation to Daniel, she has shown great empathy and compassion for him. She has publicly supported him. I admire that she is like that, because to be honest, it's hard for me to feel compassion for such dysfunctional people. He was very selfish with her. I think that relationship worked as long as her normality was functional for him when he was sick with anorexia and arthritis, but when the Rockstar life and excess came along, her normality was a problem. It's beautiful to see how she prefers to continue her life without grudges. As she said on his podcast, over time she learned to remember that relationship fondly. I think that's what Firebird is about....overcoming a lot of things in her life. Seeing her being a mother is heartwarming. "What It Feels Like" is a beautiful song.
Natalie seems so down to earth and like the kind of person anyone could just sit down and talk too.
She still looks really great. What a beautiful woman
Probably the best looking pop star of her generation. She had modeling contracts too and was on Loreal commercials.
25 years and still amazing
She's so beautiful. I had the biggest crush on her & I'm sure I'm not the only one
Busted!
I was like 5 when her song came out. Had a crush back then have it now :D

Ednaswap has 2 versions. One more grungy and one that's basically identical to Natalie's version.

Yes she wrote "shiver" but that was at her third album.
I had her 1st album on a repeated loop nonstop for months
Big mistake and Wishing I was there were absolute bangers.
Smoke was another big hit off her first album and possibly her best. Amazing song.

Honestly it sounds almost like the same person singing, but I think Natalie's version has more emotion...
