Almost every piece of power equipment I've found curbside just needed a good carb clean or rebuild. It brought back just about all of them to life including the ariens snowblower I've been using for several years. This is a nice genset. Great to use with electronics or clean power required loads.

What a nice neat generator :-D, and when you washed the little devil it looked really good. A oiley rag for the plastic scratches lol. The inside really looked clean so its not been tampered with much, just the carb bowl. The engine whisperer wins again LOL :-D
Right! same here in WI. Mostly junk. and VERY high priced. People wanting 50 for shoes, and 30 for jeans. One time I Got a snowblower off the side of the road 10 yeras ago, The front stage was rusted off the body/frame, and needed to be welded. Wonder what area this guy lives in
People in my area be trying to sell you a ride on that has half the parts missing and the other half is rusted and still asking $400 bucks for it. These are the same people that you try to sell something to at that price and they look at you like you're smoking crack laced with bleach. It's only worth a million dollars if it's them selling it!
Same problem at yard sales here in Florida...I have better luck on the sale sites/apps like letgo and offerup, once in a while craigslist although craigslist has become somewhat more obsolete these days compared to the sale sites/apps.

Dump days are fun. Can't tell you how many chainsaws, mowers, snowblowers etc I've come across that had bad gas in them and/or carbs needing simple cleaning. Just picked up a Toro snowblower that needed gas tank cleaned and a new fuel filter....runs great. Amazing what people throw away.

I am green with envy. You must live in a wealthy area. That gen would sell for $100 around here before it was fixed. You find stuff in the trash better than I can buy at garage/yard sales or flea markets!! Craigslist is many times full retail for used!
I have found a total of 7 or 8 kerb side mowers that all worked great. But that is not usual. Lots of people scrapping and driving around just waiting to grab those mowers and take them to the scrap yard for $0.75 cents of steel weight. Garage sales are a mix. I have been to some that have great deals and others where things are grossly overpriced. The best are the moving sales. Buy one thing and then the people just want you to take stuff. One of my best purchases was a Dewalt miter saw for only $50. Bought a tile saw as well that I ended up re-selling. They started giving me more and more stuff that they said would be going in the trash otherwise as it wasn't cost effective to move it across the country. I guess people will pay a lot for stuff in my area. But that is very select. People won't buy certain things for $5 at the same time.

Love the video! Congrats on getting another awesome find!! I will be looking forward to seeing that old Evinrude in the spring. Looks to be about a 1955-58. Working at an outboard shop I have seen lots of those old motors. I love working on them! It will be interesting to see if your motor still has the original wax type coils and tall condensers under the flywheel. Or when the impeller was last changed. You really make what you do fun and exciting. I always loved working on small engines and was the best at my job during my tour in the United States Airforce, which ironically dealt with these types of non-vehicle special purpose equipment. I just bought the 2300w model at a pawn shop yard sale. They were asking $450... I think she pushed the ON/AUTO button when it kicked in & before trying a tool on it and as soon as I pressed the tool button gen would shut off. I offered $100 as is and they took it. Brought it home and used it on my pop up and it ran everything including the AC & Heater!
We have a lot of lime in the water here and that plugs up the valving. That along with freezing give me a good source of 5 hp vertical and horizontal engines with low hours!
You have great mechanical style. When you go though a motor, you always make sure that everything is clean and replaced if necessary. Awesome style, I say.
I just picked up the exact same RYi2000 model (was in good working condition) for $200, and I thought it was a killer deal. Nice quiet unit, I like the wheel and pull out handle.
Awesome. What a great find (of course, it could have gone the other way too, I suppose.) I have a tiller with a Chinese engine and that same gasket...it was a real bear getting it back on properly.
These video's inspired me to buy a Powerpro 1000 for $125. I'm glad I bought it. It takes 50:1 mixture in the tank. So, no additional oil is needed. I purr's like a (big) kitten. Oh, by the way, mine came with a DC plug too. It also came with a DC cable attached to battery clips, I'm guessing for to charge a battery. It's kind-a cool. Also, I remember my dad buying gasket material at an auto parts store when I was a kid. I'm guessing that Amazon probably sells it now.
I believe that outboard is a 1957 10hp. I used to own one and it pushed a 14ft jon boat with 3 guys and lots of fishing gear around 20 knots. I suspect that the propeller bushing will probably be dry. It's going to be just like everything else you fix. Carburetor and fuel.
Good score on the generator. fyi, they tend to need the choke if the auto isle feature is on, turn it off and then start better. See it started one pull the next day, probably the capacitor that stores voltage for the auto idle bled down. I know my two Generacs and the Honda act that way.
Evinrude made Aquasonics with 7.5, 15 and 25 hp. That looks like it could be a 7.5 hp Fleetwin, but it's not possible to tell from the video. Nice catch on the generator. I have not had much luck with that brand of tools, but it looks pretty good.
Actually, Bruce my friend, upon reading your comment I went back and reviewed the footage and at :30 it says Fleetwin 7.5 right under the rope start... Nice educated guess!
The honda 2.0i generator is the exact same engine as the ryobe that you just fixed ,they have a timing belt and a plastic cam in them ,they are a good unit ,abit tricky putting a new belt on them as its hard to line up the oil splash wheel
The last time I saw or remove a diaphragm in a 4 valve carburetor was in a Ford Galaxy 500 351 8 cylinder engine. i love that car and someone stole it from me never to be found because the engine was superb in the desert.
I have a trick for those vacuum fuel pumps,if you use a bulb suckered like you get for babies put it on the vacuum line and squeeze it lightly a few times it will prime the carb for you

Thank you - I love tinkering with and repairing small engines. I found a Mantis tiller at the dump and got it working good as new! Now have a Ryobi that I thought worked when borrowed from a friend only to find it didn't - even after doing some standard starting tricks, and upon returning it discovered that I had "broken" it (it worked last time my friend used it... :) ) and that I owed him $500 - Grandpa always said, "n'er a borrower or lender be..." hard lesson learned, but hoping to get it running and possibly recoup some of my loss...
If it hasn't been running in a long time it most likely needs coils, carb rebuild and water pump so I'd say around 75 bucks at most. I'm in the Antique Outboard Motor Club, and those motors are very common.
when we test a boat motor at my house we use an extra large stiff rubber trash can filled with water works great. also great video thanks for the share.
There is a product that's not as handy as RTV but is made by Permatex and is made to resist all automotive fuels. It's called Permashield and besides being fuel resistant it is both high and low temp resistant and does not set up so you can pull parts apart and reuse the seal... Also supposed to work on pitted surfaces too.
Evinrude looks to be maybe a 10hp, maybe a 7.5, about mid 50s vintage. I had a 58 10hp (sportwin) and this is a couple years older than mine. The pressure tanks (double hose) went away late 50s I think.
Hoarding isn't a bad thing when the things you hoard are useful buddy. Nice job but can you tell me if the revs are generally supposed to rise when you plug in a tool as i have two generators and they seem to stall when I'm using something of quite a low voltage.
Kipor KGE 2000(bought in 05) is the same and used many hours without complaint,my front output panel that controls motor speed eventually burnt out and it wont start anymore but the motor is still clean with plenty of compression,parts are almost non existence.
What happened to the good old days when there was a rubber primer button or bulb? I feel as if the primer-less technology sucks! Does it keep the environment nicer? By the way, does it sound like there is a knock? I'm hearing something.
The internal design @ 3:45 (air filter, carburator, oil drain) looks like Honda 20i. I wonder if these are copies (any maybe "bad" copies in detail), or if they are manufactured at the same factory as the Hondas, maybe with lower quality parts... Any maybe in one of these "off-brand" inverters is actually a Honda-engine? Also the spark wire, the front LEDs, the front DC connector, the fuel cap, the fuel drain line are like the 20i.
Mustie 1, do you add anything to your gasoline ? Like Sta-Bil Marine ? Or Lucas upper cylinder lubricant and fuel injection cleaner? I double Sta-Bil my gen-set gasoline and use a bit of Lucas when running, I use 5 ounces of Lucas in my 25 gallon Chevy Silverado at every fill. I'm surprised you didn't remove that black fuel line and try to clean it out or just cut a new one. When I repair anything the gas line goes if I find out the float bowel is dirty, or gummed up. Good score for 40 bucks and it looks like the guy was honest, replacing that 'o' ring was the best way to go because the whole thing could go up in flames.
Hi Mustie1 ! I have the same generator that I got from a friend. I took it all apart and cleaned it up. Got her to run also. I was wondering if you know how the voltage regulator is installed? mine looks like it just lays behind the AC power output plugs.I removed the 4 screws that hold the AC sockets to the cover and the regulator was just laying back there, plugged in to the wire harness. Do you think that is correct? There looks like a mounting screw on the aluminum regulator housing.Its about 1.5 inches square aluminum heat sink device. thanks !
Mustie1 Yeah, seen the Honda version at Home Depot for $999 little bit ago. The fuel shut off on those is the valve on the gas cap. Never found an actual shut off valve under the covers.
I installed an inline fuel petcock on our Honda 2000. So you can run it dry and avoid the stalactites from growing in the carb due to the corned-up gas we are now stuck with.

It's definitely a Honda based engine, James condon of this parish pulled one apart recently, you can tell by the diagonally split crankcase.

Actually this unit is a Kipor generator in a Ryobi jacket. Nice little generators with well made engines.

Nice Find and great fix! Good to have around like you said. Surprised it put out the power being a Ryobi, but sometimes they get it right.
I find a lot of people buy those pressure washers, use them and put them in a shed and they freeze and split. They don't think of winterizing them.

The outboard is a 1955 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 hp. I work on outboards for a living as well as collect old outboards and have around 40 of them.

If it hasn't been running in a long time it most likely needs coils, carb rebuild and water pump so I'd say around 75 bucks at most. I'm in the Antique Outboard Motor Club, and those motors are very common.

There is a product that's not as handy as RTV but is made by Permatex and is made to resist all automotive fuels. It's called Permashield and besides being fuel resistant it is both high and low temp resistant and does not set up so you can pull parts apart and reuse the seal... Also supposed to work on pitted surfaces too.

Evinrude looks to be maybe a 10hp, maybe a 7.5, about mid 50s vintage. I had a 58 10hp (sportwin) and this is a couple years older than mine. The pressure tanks (double hose) went away late 50s I think.
Hoarding isn't a bad thing when the things you hoard are useful buddy. Nice job but can you tell me if the revs are generally supposed to rise when you plug in a tool as i have two generators and they seem to stall when I'm using something of quite a low voltage.
Kipor KGE 2000(bought in 05) is the same and used many hours without complaint,my front output panel that controls motor speed eventually burnt out and it wont start anymore but the motor is still clean with plenty of compression,parts are almost non existence.
What happened to the good old days when there was a rubber primer button or bulb? I feel as if the primer-less technology sucks! Does it keep the environment nicer?
By the way, does it sound like there is a knock? I'm hearing something.
The internal design @ 3:45 (air filter, carburator, oil drain) looks like Honda 20i. I wonder if these are copies (any maybe "bad" copies in detail), or if they are manufactured at the same factory as the Hondas, maybe with lower quality parts... Any maybe in one of these "off-brand" inverters is actually a Honda-engine?
Also the spark wire, the front LEDs, the front DC connector, the fuel cap, the fuel drain line are like the 20i.
Put the float gasket between two sheets of paper and run a clothes iron over it.
Mustie 1, do you add anything to your gasoline ? Like Sta-Bil Marine ? Or Lucas upper cylinder lubricant and fuel injection cleaner? I double Sta-Bil my gen-set gasoline and use a bit of Lucas when running, I use 5 ounces of Lucas in my 25 gallon Chevy Silverado at every fill. I'm surprised you didn't remove that black fuel line and try to clean it out or just cut a new one. When I repair anything the gas line goes if I find out the float bowel is dirty, or gummed up. Good score for 40 bucks and it looks like the guy was honest, replacing that 'o' ring was the best way to go because the whole thing could go up in flames.

Hi Mustie1 ! I have the same generator that I got from a friend. I took it all apart and cleaned it up. Got her to run also. I was wondering if you know how the voltage regulator is installed? mine looks like it just lays behind the AC power output plugs.I removed the 4 screws that hold the AC sockets to the cover and the regulator was just laying back there, plugged in to the wire harness. Do you think that is correct? There looks like a mounting screw on the aluminum regulator housing.Its about 1.5 inches square aluminum heat sink device. thanks !

The boss has a 2000w Honda quiet generator. Same engine as the Ryobi. Only real difference is the switch placement. You got a good score on this one.

Mustie1 Yeah, seen the Honda version at Home Depot for $999 little bit ago. The fuel shut off on those is the valve on the gas cap. Never found an actual shut off valve under the covers.

As with the Honda, that combined switch means you can't turn off the fuel and let the carb run dry.
I installed an inline fuel petcock on our Honda 2000. So you can run it dry and avoid the stalactites from growing in the carb due to the corned-up gas we are now stuck with.
