    Super legit breakdowns. Been surfing 25 years and only now wanting to really understand the technicals needed to up my game at my age. My home break is reef, but ledging on takeoff followed by a soft shoulder before bowling up on the inside so looking for how to generate speed to make the most of that transition and this video really helped me to understand what I am looking for. If part two is as good, you'll hear from me again. \m/

    That was a sick layback bash on the Akila at 11:49. I used to be one of those old 1990's Al Merrick twinzer freaks back in the day. I swore by that board for a long time. I would like to dabble with the more modern fishy deals. Where should I gravitate?

    I tried a swpb at my local beachbreak, but the waves are usually so slopey and/or mushy, the narrow nose wouldn't make the flatter sections (without a ridiculous amount of flapping). The wider/thicker nose on a true groveler allows me to make the reform much more often. Also, when ridden as a quad, it feels so much faster. My board's quad boxes are close to the side fins and, I swear, there's some sort of dynamic where the side fins shield the quad trailers so they have no drag...speed of a twin, but not too loose.

    • @taradead
      @taradead 2 роки тому +1

      @@kelvinbatista9259 I'm currently on the channel islands "pod mod", but most any wide-nose shortboard would probably work (JS psycho nitro, Lost CA twin, Lost RNF 96, FireWire mashup, etc). My fins are Futures "Roberts" large (blue ones w/ carbon) and they're fantastic...however, they're discontinued, so the Futures HS1 would be my next choice.

    The HD foam stringers are typically Polyurethane foam. Meaning, it's possible that it has a balancing effect regarding the bounciness/liveliness of eps. Let's keep the air clear on all the tech materials available to today's industry! Knowledge is power. Peace

    • @surfershaper
      @surfershaper 2 роки тому +1

      Also, another relatively unexplored combination that's being used is Polyurethane/Epoxy. Get the neutral feel with pu foam and extra durability with epoxy. Add S glass on the deck for even more dent resistance. Let's go!

    Thank s Noel good info. My biggest issue is the equation of my age vs volume vs board shape vs material vs paddling fitness. I can work on the fitness and I do a lot these days to counteract my age. I don’t really know if I’m not overvolumed on my boards. I’m ok with getting less waves bc I’ve gotten plenty on bigger boards in the past. My emphasis is now performance and vertical movements. If I can get the rail in the water with the most volume I guess is the issue.

    Respectfully, these waves are small but pretty good nonetheless. They are long period, clean lines breaking over cobblestone. Would love to see a video on really small waves, which are, by the way, shredded by a select few on hpsb worldwide, such as on the east coast of the USA, Brazil, or any east facing wind whipped coastline in the world littered by beach breaks. Great concepts displayed here! Would love to have seen this video made at t-street in the summer or even better, pacific beach SD. Having Justin Poston as a guest would make it even better, he killed it in junky surf in the 90s...

    Two of the most fun small wave surfboards I’ve ever ridden are the lost Mayham Hydra and Rocket Redux! Both of them have a really wide tail and low entry rocker and are so fun to surf on smaller days. I surfed the hydra out at Pipes when it was barely even waist high and I was having the time of my life. The rocket redux is also a super fun board I can handle bigger surf like overhead but also small waist high waves.

    hey noel im a fairly big guy, 6'1" and 190 pounds. i find it really hard to get a board thats short enough with enough foam for me to fit in the pocket quickly on small waves.
    Edit: This is a bit of a throwback, but i was wondering. as a 2-6ft daily driver, would you opt for the phantom or the neck beard 2 in spinetek? Torn between these two boards. looking at either the 5'11 nb2 in spinetek, or the 6'0 phantom xl. both at my 34ish litre mark. thanks again
