The Jerk Chicken Queen of the Bronx | Street Food Icons

- Опубліковано 6 бер 2019
- Fauzia Abdur-Rahman has been serving Jamaican food in the South Bronx from her cart Fauzia's Heavenly Delights, right outside the courthouse, for the last 25 years. The menu changes every day, but there are always two meat options, a fish option and three vegetarian options.
With the help of her daughter and husband, Fauzia makes her famous jerk chicken three times a week, and finishes it with her homemade jerk sauce that she makes with pimiento and scotch bonnet peppers, plus a host of other ingredients.

Fauzia just made my day. She's got such great energy.
@DOSTGOYEVSKY ! good!
Agree
Big food truck energy
This video and all great foodsss videos should be banned!!!!! They make me so hongryyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ps Any Jamaican women down to date!!? Must cook like the woman in the video lol
Its the food, it gives you great energy.
I love how the husband kept building her up and giving her all the credit and then she built him up and give him his credit!....Great team
Yes!
Exactly! it's the most romantic thing I've ever seen.
It is amazing hearing them talk about each other
It's a beautiful thing right? Your partner in life should not only support you in your endeavors but challenge you to be better. And that IS a two way street.
100% 😁🤗
"Customer Service is 50% of your business" Amen to that.
Cee Cee facts
You gotta figure come Christmas time, this lady probably gets a nice lil Christmas bonus to all her customers she serve.
True
fortunately she knows that because that is most Jamaican restaurants Achilles heel.
"look after the customer and the business will take care of itself" Ray Kroc (founder of McDonald's)
Why does it seem like everyone who runs a food cart is some amazing person inside and out? So much respect for this woman and her husband.
because they live exactly for the people, and because of the people :) truly inspiring each video like this
Because they're the ones that's brave enough to get out of the system. It takes a special kind of people to get out of the corporate ladder.
Hospitality isn’t easy. Trust me. I’m sure there’s been time when they just had a bad day, getting yelled at. I find those who complain just don’t get street food culture. Sometimes it’s fast, sometimes it going to take time. Either way you’ll receive some good ass food.
Majority of the times, people who work food trucks genuinely give a shit about the food they’re serving. If it’s bad, they’ll go under.
Because its on video and they are showing their best side x)
Try to have a job in a service industry.
Now try having a *BUSINESS* in the service industry.
You have to be a special type of person to endure so much petty shit from people.
Fauzia's is the best! During the early pandemic in 2020, she hosted a virtual jerk chicken cooking class that was so much fun and brought warmth to my home during such a dark time. Thanks, Fauzia!
If that ain't right, feed your customers like you'd feed your family.

Absolutely!
They are a positive example for any community. Something we should learn from and strive. I love their zeal, pride of ownership, and love for their clientele. And their clientele love and respect them back.
A beautiful thing.
@Biracial_ Beauty She works in the hood, that's what I was refering to.
@Biracial_ Beauty Does it matter if she's from the hood are not?
Biracial_ Beauty 😂😂 how is being from the hood diminishing her accomplishments? You sound dumb. Go to the hood and get some of her food, you seem tense.
She’s 70 years old, and she out here cooking up meals on the streets of NYC .
Clipper CV look at my video bandz
Wow 70?! She does not look a day over 50!
Aysha Kimble exactly. She lookes so much younger.

I guarantee you shes easily making a healthy 6 figure salary. Dont belittle those food stand people in NY, bc id bet that they make more money than you
@@JimBobe That's right. 6 figures easy.. probably more since she has plenty of regulars at this point!
And no uncle Sam since its all cash baby
Man I LOVE how they honor each other as husband and wife.
It's a beautiful THING.
Yes indeed
beautiful TING
They are Jamaican and are probably Baby Boomers like born in 1950s but wish them the best of luck.
Nisey 523 look how people struggled to get where they is, Still people wanna Robb those people, it’s not right
It’s something we shouldn’t even have to comment on but unfortunately people don’t treat their marriage like this anymore
The love her and her husband have for each other made me cry I really wish we all loved each other like that. Just having each other’s back and uplifting each other.
I was wondering if they’re still there I want to give the food a try I live in n.y too
Why did tears come to my eyes watching this.. the part about her putting her kids through college by selling food from a cart real got to me.. I met a Jamaican brother that told me he brought a home in Brooklyn and put both his son through college by driving dollars taxi in Brooklyn since 1990..god bless all my Caribbean people who come to this country and work their fingers to the bones to make a better way for their families here and back home same to my black American transplant from the south..

Her cart is on 161 Street and Sheridan Avenue in the Bronx. The line is always long. She is usually sold out by 2:00pm. Maybe before. Her food is really good. I grew up and live in the Bronx. There are so many food gems in the BX.
And she is in a good location between the court houses

Wife : "He's the backbone of the business"

You know it's good when she said "It's a recipe from my mother"
When she says she's know people when they were pregnant to thier children being grown she's telling the absolute truth. Mommy has known my family long before I was born and I am now a mother myself. She is a real part of my family and we love her and continue to wish her many many years of continued success. Her positive attitude is matched by none (dont miss out on her fish cakes and ask for extra jerk gravy on your rice)
Asia Pinkston-Cooper Facts!!!!!
First and foremost, it's nice to see a healthy, thriving Black Jamaican family, and secondly, love, love Jamaican dishes.
what if it was a white Jamaican family u racist fuck
@@DodgecitySMASH They're so racist, they still call them Jamaican, even though they are thriving as Americans.
The Left is the party of racism.
@James Casey Obviously, we live in a world where everything is named and identified, often with hierarchical significance.
I don't disagree with what you're saying, what I am saying is that certain things have become too subjective, when words are supposed to have meaning. Before we get too lost here, I'm not saying people should forget their heritage, in fact, quite the opposite, hence the "melting pot" idea of shared cultures. But consider that If I start to identify as a white, straight, Germanic/Anglo male, I might run into cries of racism, because the goal posts move to suit the needs of those who would keep us all divided. By statistics, II have traveled to foreign countires more than over 80% of Americans, I have been rich-poor-rich-poor, lived in a mansion, lived in a slum, and one thing I know, most people want to come here. Because the West IS the most welcoming culture in the world, and afford the most opportunity. I just hope people can see themselves as American, no matter where they come from, and honor their heritage, but also accept that they left in the first place for reasons that are common in cultures from around the world. They can't find it there, so they come here.
Jamaicans are Ghanaians

Honestly, I love chefs like these. They always make amazing street food.
I really admire how they both lift each other up and say all the great things the other person does for the business! And I really love their work ethic and very chill laid back positive kind attitude. She appreciates her customers so much too!
When you said 25 years I was thinking the 80s. Then saw the sign that says "Since 1994" and I realized I'm getting old. Her business started the year I was born.

I knew she was an OG Jamaican when she said “Hold it good.” 😂😂😂😂
I believe I heard her say, "mi caan" then changed it to "I can".
I knew immediately when I saw those Dutch pots and plantains b4 she even mentioned it.
I’ve always known
What does "Hold it good" mean?
Norma Campbell In Spanish there’s a similar terminology that goes like “Agarralo Bien” which means the same thing. It basically just means hold it tight so you don’t drop it. I feel like it means the same thing in Jamaica
It’s not about the job, It’s the energy you bring into the the job, and Fauzia brings that energy.
