- CARAMEL POPCORN
1 cup BUTTER 1/2 teaspoon BAKING SODA
1/2 cup CORN SYRUP 1 teaspoon VANILLA
1 teaspoon SALT 6 quarts POPPED CORN
2 cups BROWN SUGAR NUTS (optional)
Melt butter and stir in brown sugar, syrup and salt. Boil stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Boil without stirring 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add baking soda and vanilla. Pour over popped corn in a large pan. Bake at 250 degrees F for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes. Let cool and break apart. Store in an airtight container.

I love my air popper. Have never made caramel corn. My mom used to boil Steen's syrup to make popcorn balls. Don't know if she added anything else. Only thing I remember is buttering our hands to help form the balls.
I've always mixed the vanilla and baking soda together in a small dish and then poured it in while stirring.. Always so good!
