- Coil Overs Or Lowering Springs, I Went For The Apex Sports Springs, a far Cheaper Way Of Massive Handling Improvements.
In this video I show how to replace standard springs for the far superior Apex sports springs.
The Eibach were also in the mix but I decided the slightly lower Apex would suit the look better.

I have jacked up all the 107’s I have worked on in the middle of the rear axle and have never had an issue,it is very solid.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Just a quick helpful tip, Jack up both sides at the front.
Work on the car while both front wheels are up in the air, that will give you more drop as the antiroll bar won’t be under tension
Good tip! Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great video Anton. Looking to do this on my 108 in a few weeks time. Nice bit of guidance mate.
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I’m impressed just over £100 for the complete sit at the beginning of the video. I thought you meant each side. It’s well affordable. And makes a massive improvement on the look and performance. I’ve got to do it myself. I have the Toyota Yago.
Great Springs and a nice ride, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Fantastic videos always really helpful! First class bruv 😎🙏👌
Glad you think so! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Just use a small spreader tool to push the steering knuckle apart that holds the shock absorber in place. No need to hammer on the knuckle when using that useful tool :) Also very common on VW or BMW cars to hold the shock in place
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 it looks like this in the following link: www.xxl-automotive.de/spezialwerkzeug/fahrwerk-achse/stossdaempfer-federn/5156/radlagergehaeuse-spreizer-hazet-4912-1
Very handy!
great video again thanks for doing it
No worries, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Useful video, as I'm about to put AP Coil Overs on my 107. I'm also running ATS Cups but they are wider, more dish. I've done suspension work on a few VW's in my time. Interesting to see you're also in Leicester (accent was bit of a giveaway) and I noticed you drove down the Blaby bypass and turned towards Whetsone, where i used to live! Informative stuff! Cheers!
Glad it helped spot on with the location Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Nice job.I have Peugeot 107 with "apex".
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Amazing work Anton. I am still of the opnion that drive shaft needs to come out and ball joint needs to be separated first. I also like to take off the caliper, carrier and discs and pads to make the knuckle lighter to wrestle with.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi Ant....
Any excuse to get that Milwaukee Fuel M18 gun out ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️ Great bit of kit tho.
To be fair, the DINKY TOY looks good on those springs. Should lower a bit more once they settle.
Stay safe. Stay healthy to you & the family.

I was Happy with the drop, Not too drastic kamen was worried about the speed bumps bashing the underside, but no issues at all, its like a little go kart now, Thanks Alan for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks Ant, you're terrific - whereabout at the front do axle stands go?
anywhere on the front subframe, best near mounting points, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi there, I found your channel the other night and have learnt a lot so far, my daughter has just bought a little 107 and just loves driving it as do myself. I have a question about the fuel cap, is there ment to be 2 keys one for the fuel and the other for the car?
Normally the key is the same, but the cap may have been replaced at some point, you should have two keys for the ignition, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I learn a lot watching your videos, thank you.
I've encountered a problem with my C1 after trying to remove the bolts of the rear shock absorbers in order to readjust the rubber mounting that had gone out of place. There was a lot of rust on it, and especially the left side was causing trouble but it finally started moving properly only for the bolt to literally snap in half a while later. We would be able to pull out the smoot part of it as it was moving freely, but the ridged part on the outside was still attached to the nut that can hardly be seen.
When watching this video and similar ones as well, I can never see the actual nut on the outside be taken out. Is it wielded on or is there another reason it never comes off?
Do you have any recommendation on how to get out the broken off bolt bit? It's a bit fiddly to get in there with any powerful tools in order to try and losen it, and I am still not sure whether it is wielded on or not. If possible, I'd like to try things on my own before sending it into the workshop because I'm having fun learning either way.
Trying several different stores, all I can find are full shock absorbers and springs, but it seems more difficult to find the smaller parts that need to be replaced such as the bolts, nuts and rubber mountings.
Thank you again.
the nut is welded to the frame, but you could grind it off and just use a new nut and bolt, I would drill out the old one and tap the thread clean and refit, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 Thank you for the advice and the quick reply. Sorry to bother again, but would you happen to know what type of bolt and nut I need to purchase to replace it? Is there an OEM-number? I've tried Autodoc and similar stores, but they do not seem to have it. I also don't know the measurements for these things.
If you know where to buy new rubber mounts, that would be great too.
Thank you.
Hello mate love the channel very informative. What was this ride height like when going over bumps and with people in the back? I have springs ready to install but hesitant atm.
about the same as normal springs, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Brilliant d.i.y video well described and executed .
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
You a star m8
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the video, really helpful! I've currently got 195/45/R15 wheels on my Bug, and with 2 people in the back every slight bump in the road causes the body to rub the back wheels. Do you think these would stop that (along with the improved handling of course)? 🙂
You need smaller tyres like in this video, ua-cam.com/video/IjdEhu_2j3w/v-deo.html Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi Ant love your videos . I have a wee question for you . I have a citreon C1 and the steering is notchy. Any ideas what the problem is ? Regards Natalie
Sounds like a possible steering rack issue, very unusual unless its been bashed, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 thanks for the tip
Nice 👍
Thanks Steven for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 just a quick question. I have recently serviced my C1 and was wondering if you know Where the fuel filter is located 🤔
@@sfeath520 there is a mesh filter in the fuel pump which needs the pump to be removed to clean and that is all
couple of months down the line ,, how are you finding the springs and wheel combination , any issues at all ?
Love it no issues, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Whats the general ride like? I think the standard suspension can seem alittle crashy at times, can you see any negative effect in the quality. Obviously as the apex spring rates are higher its bound to feel stiffer. I've put lowering springs on cars in the past, and literally worst thing I could have done to the ride quality. Considering they were eibach springs, a premium brand.
I've been on the fence with doing this to my c1.
Such a good mod, and really impressed with the Apex springs, not too harsh on the ride, not too low still clears the speed humps, and looks nice and stumpy, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
My spring fit was a nightmare. I managed to round the hex insert at the top of the leg then split it hammering a torx bit in. I ended up cutting the bolts off as I didnt want to melt anything.
I also dropped the lower ball joint and droplinks off.
ouch! sounds like you had a right job on, I have done fiestas which are always getting water on the top mount corroding the threads and leg top, what a pain, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi bruv now you have lowered it 35mm is it wearing the inner edge of the front tyres if so do you think 30mm would be a safer drop! 😎👍
The tyre wear doesn't seem to be an issue, love these springs, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
To finish it off you can get a spoiler on eBay, I’ve ordered mine
one is on its way, video coming soon, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Would something like this reduce the wear on the outer shoulders of the tyres? (Negative camber) My tyres always wear more on the outside edge and in the manual it says it's a sign of hard cornering, I don't go that mad but drive allot of twisty bendy A roads
defiantly Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Cracking video pal. What wheels are they ?
ATS Cup juniors, video is here ua-cam.com/video/IjdEhu_2j3w/v-deo.html Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Imagine an axle stand taking the weight off of the other side of the anti roll bar you'd of been done for lunch 😂
I have limited brain power sometimes, 😂 Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Is this the best solution then? Have both sides on jacks / axle stands, then the Shock strut will more easily drop out of the clamp at the bottom?
@@somerandomname9252 ideally for an easier job. I've made this same mistake myself, when I didn't know any better. The weighted side of the arb pulls the wishbone up, on the lifted side of the vehicle. Another option is to detach the arb link but it's a terrible idea lol
Honestly, looking at the final result, i'd drop it -35 on the rear and -25 on the front. On the conclusion shot it looks pretty uneven to me. Still, good video from the mechanical point. Cheers ;)
The car handles like a dream, so the rake front to rear is pretty good, and don't forget if you have some friends in the back you don't want it to be on the deck Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
That's only because there's no weight in the rear
Instead of hammering the hub upwards to re engage the strut, could you have put a jack under and pushed it on?
too right, I don't know why I didn't help it in with the jack, must have had a brain freeze moment, although it didn't take too long to slip back in. Great spot Dave Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
How much would a garage charge for labour on a job like this? Loving the citybug videos keep them coming :)
anything from £350-£700 Depending on who you use!! Thanks Luke for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 a bit steep for me😂 cheers Anton👍
get your spanners out😂😂👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 not a chance garage fitted mine for £70
@@aaanton11 £350 is like 7 hours labour 🙈
The Bolt ontop of the suspension tower (in engine bay), can this bolt be undone on its own to remove the suspension shock from the car. Or that hex in the middle has to be undone first? I’m confused with what I need to do here. The correct order. 😩
You need to remove the 17mm nut on the suspension top to remove the leg from the car, the hex in the middle might spin with the nut if you don't hold it. I used an impact gun if you don't have one you will need a spanner and a Allen key hold the hex and turn the spanner, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for the response. Much appreciated. I tried this but the top nut won’t come off as they are rusted together! The top nut and the hex in the middle. What other options are there to get the shock off please?
Have you had any problems with more passengers in the car? Wheel rubbing arches ect because it’s been lowered
No These work like a charm, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
One of the worst things on the 107 is the boat like suspension, I assume this goes a great way towards fixing that. Problem is my daughter has her first insurance policy, and I bet any declared mod would literally double the premium, so no go :(
The difference is not enough to notify the insurance in my opinion, its not like fitting coil overs they are just replacement parts, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Does it have issues with rear passengers? I noticed the car lowers visibly with two rear passengers. Just wondering if I lower the spring by 35 mm, will the tyres touch the wheel fender arch with rear passengers?
No issues with passengers, in fact its better as the springs stiffen the more they are compressed, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 : I recently fitted these inspired by your videos, Wondering if you still have the car in this video? how do they hold up after three years? Still going good? Any issues?
Just a small thing and totally unimportant but, counterintuitively, the part of the spring with a few widely spaced coils is the stiff part, the multiple coils close together is the softer section 😉 Also it doesn’t matter a damn which way up the spring is wrt ride and handling, as long as it fits correctly in the end caps/bushes
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
The speed Ramps are massive near me maybe you would smash your sump in I am interested in buying a Citroen c1 I'm on the look out nice little town car
it is fine with speed humps, that's the benefit of using springs over coilovers Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 I enjoy watching your videos I do my own repairs but not clutches in the street I'm getting on a bit for that I'm very interested in the Citroen c1 basic engineering look a great car
Oh also to say I have APEX springs on my T32 transporter, so if they can take that, I assume quality will be more than enough for a 107
They improved the ride, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Is it possible to undo the front strut top nut without having to remove the whole scuttle panel? Seems like a lot of work just to get to the 2 top nuts... there must be a tool somewhere that would make the job easier 🤔
It doesn’t take long to get the scuttle off without removing that you can’t get access to the bolts Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Just a hint from a past mistake doing this job myself when hammering the strut do yourself a favour and remove the abs sensor and tie it up out the way as the percussive shock can wreck them,
9 times out of ten you'll get away with it but why risk it.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
What alloy wheels do you have fitted? Have you had to use spacers?
This video is all about the wheels ua-cam.com/video/IjdEhu_2j3w/v-deo.html Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
You didn't think to upgrade the shock absorbers while you were doing the springs?
No need, they are all ok, but when they fail another video will appear😂 Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
After changing the springs would the insurance co need to be told as its a modification thanks
The insurance wouldn't normally pick up on these springs, if they were coil overs then definitely a mod, these are just replacement springs, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
do this fit the 107/aygo or the C1 cus Euro car parts says they don't fit?
Yes they fit all, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Having just acquired my second, would not pull the skin off a rice pudding C1 the first been an Aygo, what is gained by lowering the suspension on a car that is almost on the ground from new. A great video by the way, but why.
Because it improves everything😂 Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi were the lowering spring easy to fit thanks
yes not too difficult as per video, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Missed taking top bolt off strut ! How .. tried everything rusted on .......
its in the video I struggled, and had to heat it up to remove, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi fella any chance you could tell me what model ratchet that is thanks

Finally managed to get all thr springs on my c1 rears went on easy but fronts were a bit tricky as we didnt have much space to work with managed to fo one side no problem but had an issue trying to get the strut of the other side and out spring compressors were to long to fit in to compress the spring so had to get a mechanic in to undo the ball joint after all that i think we might have dameged the wheel bearing as the left wheel makes a metal rubbing sound when turning right and accelerating so expencive fix that if it is the bearing😢
you wont have damaged the bearing, check the brake disc back plate is not too close to the disc just bebd it away a bit, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@aaanton11 thank you for your reply ,didn't think you would after Three years 😅, I will have a look at it and will get back to you if I can fix it
What were the mm on the spring used in the video?
35MM drop from and rear Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Are they 35mm and 40mm back and front sequentially!?
40mm front and rear, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
would one of these be a good first car? I know it's completely different but how would this compare to a Nissan Almera n16?

@@aaanton11 thank you for replying so quick 👍 I'm 16 and I've been looking to get my first car early to do it up and slightly mod it, etc. I had my heart set on an almera but my dad recently bought a Peugeot 107 to tow when he goes away and after seeing it I've been stuck between the two for weeks 😂 is there any mods you would recommend that wouldn't make my insurance go sky high? Currently I've been quoted 1200 a year with alloy wheels and a better sound system
My first car is a 107
They’re great cars. Very cheap to run, reliable, but still fun to drive
I'm 61 and I have owned many cars over the years including hooligans like the Sierra Cosworth and Nissan ZX turbo, but recently acquired a Peugeot 107 and every day I'm looking for an excuse to drive it. It's not a fast car but so much fun to drive and it corners like it's on rails. Will be getting the spring kit as shown soon and that will make it even better on corners.
Hi there can you just use performance Springs, we're are you from if I got stuck please
You can use any springs as long as they are for the right model, I am in Leicester but have loads on at the moment, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 thankyou thou
Hi Anton is it absolutely necessary to take the front bulkhead thing off can you not get at the bolts I'm a novice so don't laugh 👍
If I could have done it without taking it off it would be great, but you just cant get at the bolts out. the bulk head is not too difficult to remove, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Instead of hammering the hub to remove the suspension leg, you can use a thin chisel to open the slot as per official Toyota info. Easy.
