  • Built between 1832 and 1838, Montreal's first sewer collector was in fact the first one in North America, and was considered a feat of civil engineering at the time. In operation for more than 160 years, it was shut down in 1989 and incorporated into Montreal's Pointe-à-Callière Museum in 1992. Today, you can stroll through a section of the structure and enjoy a multi-sensory experience called 'Memory Collector' - a sound and light installation projected onto the stone walls that plunges visitors into a mysterious and magical space, making it one of Montreal's most unique attractions.

Antiquated system requires setting it all free down the St.Lawrence to prevent from clogging.

Montreal underground is amazing. you can actually visit/live in some parts of the city and go shopping, go to clubs, go to work, see movies... without ever... stepping outside. connected by underground walkways, hotels, museums, universities, and more are all accessible without stepping outdoors.
