One of the best arrangers ever!! Jim it's time to make a comeback!!! I definitely miss the ensemble musicality you bring to each drum corps.

I've said it to you before and I'll say it again.. This activity misses you. I miss hearing your writing so much I'm on UA-cam at 4am looking for it. There is some good stuff out there this year but this is still the pinnacle of modern percussion ensemble writing to me. Like brother Wayne said, this transcended the activity then and still does today. Thanks for posting!

One of your (as well as, THE) most musical marching percussion books ever!! Your writing, like Ralph and Scotty, transcend the activity and is simply outstanding music. I REALLY miss your "thing" in the activity....big time, bro! You and Murray together were so far beyond what was and is happening. I honestly don't think the average fan truly understood the magnitude. But maybe I'm just biased. : ) I hope you're well!

Still one of my very favorite percussion features and from my favorite drum corps show! Great stuff, Jim!

Jim-this is the book that got me hooked on DCI as a 13 year old. Doesn't get better. So glad you shared this! Is there any way on earth you'd share a copy just so I can personally learn it? Cheers, brother. Miss this writing!

@neoclassicaljazz Thanks. I was a performance major, so I studied all percussion instruments. It definitely helped to have played piano as a kid before I started playing drums. But the best advice I could offer for writing music is to write a lot, and listen to anything and everything. The more you listen to different types of music, the more you learn how to communicate via music.

This is sick! I recently graduated from SJSU as a perc performance major and saw your recital poster in the perc room everyday!

The sweetest part of this, in my opinion is the complimenting bass 4 rhythm at 0:57.

I miss being able to close my eyes and know who was playing based on the music (this a fine example of that).

Hi Jim! Im a big fan from Quebec. This show is one of my favorite. Do you think its possible to send me the transciption of the snare break? It will be very nice. Its just for my own pleasure.

    Hello Jim,
If you don't mind, I would like to know where you learned to write percussion so well. I just graduated hs and I have tried to write for indoor shows, but to no prevail. This is my passion and if you have the time, I would appreciate any kind of feed back.
    Thanks

I love your writing man. Did you go to school for composition or anything like that? and are you proficient with playing melodic percussion instruments? I've written for some high school drumlines but I'm not in college yet. I was just wondering if you have any advice or tips on writing and arranging percussion parts. Thanks a lot!
