I enjoyed this chat and your story about learning pipe smoking 😊👍👍 I‘m still learning…after almost 4 years…I think learning about pipes and tobacco…..is eternal 😲😄😄😉💨💨💨
After listening to hours and hours of Podcasts, it seems you are correct. You can keep it as simple as you’d like, or you can completely nerd out on all the details and minutia. There is an incredible amount to learn!
Thank you! Trying to taste a little of everything so I can figure out what I like. The Boswell pipes appeal to me because they have a traditional, old school charm. I hope to visit the shop someday!
Yes please! More videos like this one would be greatly appreciated. Excellent photos of your pipes; the latest one is simply gorgeous. It's good to have you back here in the UA-cam Pipe Culture/Club thing. And, I'm glad you didn't abandon pipe smoking altogether. Perhaps the sacred Spirit of Tobacco is gently telling you that you need to make more time in your life to just... be. Cheers, brother.
Oh man, you caught me! There was a different pipe that I wanted that day, but I was too slow to log in and someone swiped it. It’s amazing how fast his pipes sell. Sometimes within seconds If I ever want to sell it, I know who to reach out to first. 😉
Hi Patrick! Bike rider and New pipe smoker here as well although a few months behind on my pipe journey. Appreciate your videos! Look forward to more content. Cheers!
Recently sold my gsxr750. Looking for something let’s say more comfy to ride now. Be 41 this year and the sport bikes aren’t to good on the ol back lol
@Silverado2222 If you’re open to suggestions, I can offer a few. If you still want something similar to a sport bike, i.e. fun and fast, without the aggressive ergonomics, check out the KTM 890 Duke R (or Adventure), Yamaha MT-07 or 09, Suzuki GSX-S750Z, or Honda’s CB1000R. All will be plenty fast, but have a more upright seating position. And since you’re not bent over to reach the bars, you’ll have a much more commanding view of the road ahead. 👍
I have a buddy and we get together a couple times a week and have a puff either at his place or out in the souther Calif. desert where we like to prowl around or when fishing. It’s a great thing to smoke with a friend, makes it so more enjoyable 👍👍
Ive found that lunting requires a blend that you dont have to think about when you smoke. A pipe that doesnt get hot, and usually a wind cap. I didnt do lunting until i was more comfortable smoking 😊 keep going man!
Hello from the North of France, I really like your videos, I have subscribed. Thank you for suggesting them. These Boswells are superb. I think I'll get one someday. Being a woman, I watch her models a little less massive. It's been 3 years that I puff. It relaxes me a lot. Once or twice a week. I wish you a good continuation in this beautiful universe.
Thanks Patrick for sharing your new pipe with us, I also have a buddy who I smoke with every week , plus on camping trips and desert trips, fishing trips. Piping is a wonderful sport to share with a friend 😎👍🤓
Glad you got some buddies to smoke with. Also glad youre back into it. Its fun man, get yourself some pipe softie bits to put on your stems. Helps clench the pipe better and it also protects the stem from chatter, as well as it wont slip out your mouth and fall to the ground and bust like i had happen when i started smoking. 😂
To each their own, but don’t over think it. It’s good that you’re not over smoking but if you only have 10 to 15 minutes you can still enjoy it . Especially if you are on the go go train . It’ll help reason things out. Heck just the art of slowing down to pack it and Tamp it go a long way. It’s why many refer to it as meditating. Anyhow, love the show and as I tell my kids be safe make good choices.
I was wondering where you went! So….as someone who has a life similar to yours all the reasons you talked about is EXACTLY why I smoke a pipe. Now one little trick I will impart if you’re open is that older estate pipes are smaller (in general) and won’t last the hour long time it takes to smoke most modern pipes. Often the estates are broken in already and the flavors will come through more readily. While I do smoke larger bowls occasionally most often I have a “codger” pipe between my teeth when I want a pipe. 20 min smoke to 30 mins usually. Perfect end cap to the day sitting relaxing on the patio. More content please!
Excellent tip on using a smaller pipe to reduce smoking time. I do have a couple pipes with smaller bowls (corn cobs) and a tiny Peterson Dracula (127) Fishtail. I’ll give those a shot. Thank you, sir!
Hi Patrick, everybody should find his way, but still should keep common approach... BUT there are some tobacco like SG CH flake which is almost nonflammable :) no matter how I prepare this particular tobacco or how I pack it... great video anyway.. take care
NEW SUB HERE! Thanks for thr video man! Keep on doin pipe content when you can. 😊 i just found this company. Im planning on getting some VA PER No. 8 Slice. Been into the VA PER or VA BURs lately. Hope i can get there some day Lord willing. Dont ever think lowly of yourself starting out man. We all were there at one point. Youre doing well presenting. Just talk like youre talking to a friend and be yourself. Dont take it too seriously. Cheers man! ✌️ 🔥💨
Who doesnt like Depeche Mode? Sweet looking pipes you bought. I had no idea Boswell's throws in freebies...might have to consider that for next purchase. Cheers
Boswell’s does things a little old school, and they add that little extra touch that you’ll never get from a factory pipe maker. If you follow them on Instagram, you can see the pipes they drop every Monday. Cheers!
Great Video. I Sound your thoughts really interesting. Glad you found a setting that suits you and you do enjoy the smoke thoroughly. Same with me driving. I just cant enjoy the Smoking. Cheers from Berlin.
Thank you! Love hearing from you guys from Europe! I’m learning to enjoy smoking while driving a little more. I spend so many hours in my car per day, so it really makes sense to enjoy a pipe in my car.
If your relatively new to the pipe as I am on my second year of absolutely enjoying the journey after a lifetime of rolling my own I'm certain that you will enjoy the mixture I have come to enjoy so much and that is Gawith Hoggarth cherry and vanilla American blend mixed 50/50 with Erinmore ready rubbed. It's so good a d not overly strong and no tongue bite. It all happened when I bought a tin of cherry and vanilla but I felt it to be just that little bit too harsh and felt it was missing something and I had some Erinmore so I mixed it to try and it was instant wow and now it's my everyday smoke and the room note is awesome so much so that my neighbour who is a none smoker who was in there garden as I sat in mine with a coffee and she said that pipe smells absolutely gorgeous just a shame she's married! But if you can get to try this mixture I'm certain you'll enjoy it as much as I do.
Thank you for the response! I’ve purchased a lot of tobacco over the past few months since I’ve started this hobby. A LOT. But one I haven’t purchased is the Gawith Hoggart. I do have some Erinmore though! I’ll grab a tin of GH, mix it up and let you know how it goes.
@@BikesandBriar yes do I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it. I’m trying another tobacco tonight which is Kohlase and Kopp pipe 66 and this is another fine tobacco too. Not overly strong and has a slight fruity taste but not overpowering and a lovely room note. A very enjoyable tobacco and one I’ll definitely be buying again but I still prefer my mix better.
An hour is a typical length for a pipe smoke for me. But then, I smoke a pipe most often when I’m doing something else…working (at a computer), reading, etc. It’s rare that I *just* smoke a pipe. Everybody does it differently, though. If your smokes are too long, try cobs or smaller briars, or just pack a half bowl. I’ve got a gray ‘14 Miata hardtop. It doesn’t collect smoke aroma either, but I only smoke with the top down.
I do have some cobs I can try when time is short. Thanks for the tips! Here in the Bay Area, I don’t see many NC Miatas. The NA and NB variants are everywhere!
LOL, I have smoked a pipe for 25 years and have 1-2 bowls almost every day. I have 10 blends in my current rotation. Sir, you have more tobacco than I do! I hope you get to daily piping soon!!! P.S. I have some aros (bought a pound) that are 10 years oldish and they smoke great. So don't throw those aros away. Jar them, don't expect to taste the topping as much or at all, and enjoy them.
😂 I know, I went a little crazy. A beginner has to try it all to figure out what they like, right? 😉 I have jarred up all of my bulk tobacco, so I should be in good shape. Anything that’s sealed in a tin I’ve just left in a cool, dark place. It’s good to know that the aromatics will last a while.
Excellent! Also, the way you lit you pipe also works for smoking in the rain. I smoke when out in the barn taking care of animals and learned that from an old codger. Works like a charm. But I wouldn't smoke a Boswell out in the rain 😅
@@5adne55 I was just joking around when I opened my video with that… but good to know that it’s a useful way to smoke in inclement weather! I had no idea!

Welcome to the pipe smoking community!
