I love how Fujimoto is unabashedly unashamed in admitting that Makima is the kind of woman he's down bad for, but at the same time, points out just how toxic and manipulative someone like Makima can really be. At the end of the day, some fantasies should remain a fantasy.

On depression and Fujimoto: He basically stated and it appears that one of his main inspirations comes from the desire to express his own depression/ existential dread. He said something along the lines of feeling that way after doing volunteer work for disaster relief, himself and others feeling like they didn't even make a dent after working tirelessly all day, and being largely impacted by this. Aside from his pure uniqueness, talent and ability to communicate these things (not taking these things lightly), I think that's why his works are so visceral and... relatable(?) To so many people. It's very raw and fundamental to the "human condition" for lack of a better term, and uniquely exploratory of different ways of thinking and managing these questions and feelings.

For me, Chainsaw Man felt like the fresh take on visual storytelling that I needed. These characters are relatable: Denji’s rage, Aki’s emotions - everyone is unique in their own exaggerated way. Seeing the civilians help Denji to save them was something I don’t see often (for example, society in Devilman Crybaby being divided on whether they should side with the Devilmen or not). This leads to a whole fanbase, with Denji actively trying to blow his cover and failing miserably (nearly the opposite of modern superhero movies where the general public loathe their hero). There’s a sense of hope in the mess of chaos and destruction, and I feel that Fujimoto does have a positive view of humanity as a whole, even with the jerks and douchbags. He takes a lot of tropes and flips them on their head, and I appreciate it.

one small note: at 13:04 you refer to Togata as "her", when one of the points of his character is that he feels like a man.
despite using she/her pronouns in the story (which is due to the context, where the idea of a trans person got lost in time), it would be better to use he/him pronouns since he is a man overall.
this is in no way a negative critique, just something I wanted to point out, because Togata is genuinely one of the best trans rep I've seen and he's a very important character to me and many fellow transmascs :)

My way of viewing CSM as a person who enjoys story teling, and writing, is that, chain saw man is so loved because Fujimoto expresses his ART in a simple, direct, direct way. He does what the fuck he wants, and that atracts very of the people that have that "artist" inside of them, that will of taking what is deep on your soul/disturbed mind, and deliever it as a story. That why in my vision CSM(ans fujimoto works) have so much content like animations, memes , fan drawing, imense fan base of every character(and non character/Kobenis car S2). Fujimoto is very good at his craft, that atracts people who like a good story, but, he is indeed "raw", he expresses the way he wants and he knows that, and that fascinates us unkown artists, with crazy ideias and the will to create.

Fujimoto is the only author where I am actually interested in who they are. Maybe it’s because of how bat shit insane the shit they draw can get but it’s also just the way he acts outside of his manga. The weird shit he has done a with faking his imaginary sister. The weird shit he has said in his interview. It is very obvious that this man is as best said in modern day term. “Quirky and built different.” And all of that weird vibes he has shown can be easily seen in his own manga. Which makes his manga a debatable master class thing of its own. Sure the story isn’t perfect for fire punch or chainsaw man (his one shots are debatable another story) but holy shit. I can not lie when I say they take you on a ride that you will never forget.

Idk what else to say after watching that, but the way Fujimoto writes his characters in Chainsaw man feels so unfiltered and genuine in my opinion. So for the most part that's why I love it! Like characters just say or do shit seemingly out of nowhere, but it still makes sense for them and isn't just for shock value. After a while it's just expected in this story that the characters do things completely based on impulse with no way you could have expected that result. It's crazy!!!

What you said with Chainsaw man in the end was what happened to me in the pandemic. I was really depressed and felt like I was going to break until I discovered Chainsaw Man. I really had never read manga like Chainsaw man in my life and really helped get through my depression. I know a lot people I know don’t really understand why I feel this way and say it’s because a lot of those characters really reminded me of myself and felt like can relate to them. And that’s one of main reasons why I want my future career to be storytelling and I thank Fujumoto for that.

In the later parts of this video
I can relate to what you said.
    Im inspired by Fujimoto's work.
I admired the way he draws to the point where I'm obsessed in trying to copy his art style.

First time watching your videos but I am in the same boat as you. CSM definitely wasn't my first manga, but it caught me at the right place and at the right time. Awesome work and loved the video! Subbed.

I rarely comment on UA-cam videos ( probably once a year on average) but honestly this video was SO GOOD that I needed to let you know (even if it's another generic possitive comment) how much I appreciated this video and all your channel in general. You can truly feel how much effort was put into this and you managed to portray how wonderful Fujimoto is as a mangaka and the love the community shares for him. I hope you didn't burn out during this vid and rest assured we will be waiting for your next vid ♥. Have a good day and keep loving Garfield.

Discovered this channel through your BLAME! video and after this masterpiece I have to say you're great, man. I love Fujimoto's works and it's insane how popular yet niche his content is, he has a unique style of not giving a shit and drawing what he wants, you can tell he's very passionate about movies and he shows his inspirations clearly.
Similarly, I'm extremely happy to see you're a fan of Jakey and EyePatchWolf, 2 of the most passionate content creators out there. You are on a good path.
And lastly, when you talked about how Fujimoto inspires so many people, it resonated with me so much. Kinda hard to put into words too, but I hope we can all do cool shit and be proud of it.
    Keep being awesome, yo.

THE PANEL @16:39 is literally the face of "grin and bear it". A real 1000 words in one pic. Pain, fortitude, duty, despair, so much in 1 glance. Sadly, I've worn this face a few times and the only reason I don't today is the woman who saved me.
And yes, I do know how lucky I am in finding her.
And then I got to your meme section and laughed hilariously. Thank you for the intro. I've never seen the meme and I'm hooked.

That last bit about inspiration is scarily true, i started reading chainsaw man near the beginning of the school year in 2021 and had an art class which with my previous interaction with art i didn't want to take but the more i read chainsaw man the more i started to like art and felt like drawing more, and eventually started drawing panels from chainsaw man and now whenever i hear a certain part of the song "kickback" i just feel like getting my hands on pencil and paper to start drawing
