I recently brought a 2005 continental flying spur. Its done 104,000 miles now. Next service due in 1,300 miles. I am lucky enough to have locally an independent Merc, Bentley, Rolls servicing /repair garage so we will see how it goes. The video's are very informative hope I never need them but keep posting ! Thanks Nigel
@nigelgriffin1691 cheers Nigel, that's good to hear. Very few guys will work on them around me so I mostly have to call favours in when I need something I simply can't do. Hoping to get mystery a garage and a two poster before anything dreadful occurs! :)
Agreed. I had a jolty 5 to 6 and Reverse. Worse though was occasional hesitation trying to get into 4th at Revs resulting in massive jolt and rev surge which put the fear of god into me! Tried a few gearbox specialists who all miss diagnosed and one wanted £3.5k to replace all sorts of stuff. In the end it's Solenoids in mechatronic. £1.3k. my advice shop around and be very careful what advice you take. Mine still has an occasional jolt dropping into 1st but i think it is still going through adaption and like Nigel's will eventually disappear. Only does it when engine warm.
@kellygerman8709 thanks for that Kelly, I did see someone replacing the solenoids on this gearbox but it was in a rangerover. Think it was Samcrak on youtube. Hope it improves for you, if not the lucas add is worth a go :)
Great vid! I was almost expecting you to say you changed out the solenoids and that fixed it. lol... but I guess not. I reckon the Lucas may have repaired any slippage inside and I might go that route also. Recently reset the values and did that massive relearn process ONCE and ran out of road. Observing for the next few days.
@shaazy good luck Shaazy, hope it works for you mate, I did actually look into the solenoids and that would have been next on the list but I was lucky, just hard dry seals :)
@@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj Thank you sir! It goes through all the gears all the way to 6 and back perfectly fine, but jerks at times on downshift, and at very low speeds, I sometimes get rev surges 1 to 2. What do you recommend is the first thing I do? Lucas? Fluid change? As for seals, any preventative you'd recommend? Car is 2005 also.
@shaazy Hi Shaazy, I lost a lot of oil and hoped a gearbox service would cure my hard shifts into second nothing up and down but it didn't. I added the Lucas additive and it still didn't work, at least not for a week or so but as you know, eventually it did. The additive is silly cheap so perhaps you should try adding that, run it for a couple of weeks and follow the adaptation process mentioned in my video. If it works then I'd recommend getting the box serviced. It's about £400 in parts and oil with the proper Lifeguard 6 oil and ZF service kit. Just make sure they don't try to sell you the one for the V8 as happened to me. The gasket has 24 bolt holes on the w12.
@@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj Some strangeness has ensued yesterday. I filled up to half tank as usual, then cruised gently and came to an abrupt stop. There was a slight jolt and all 6 gears + check engine light lit up. Still rolled home fine. Getting 0736 Reverse Incorrect Ratio + 0420 Catalyst System Bank 1. Just when I thought I was gonna do some preventative, it's almost like she read my mind. sigh* Have never gotten these before. I reset the codes, and will order Dr Tranny and see how that does. Thanks a mil!
@shaazy oh dear, that means the box has gone into limp home mode. Mine did the same, I've used dr Tranny on my old rr sport and it was spot on but I used the lucas product on the Bentley.
Subscribed yesterday, watched all the vids today. Really wanted a Conti GT at 55, buying one isn't an issue, but after 2 years of watching youtube I've frightened myself to death & become nervous with the potential repair costs
@kevy2300 I get it mate. Thank you for subscribing and managing to live through 18 volumes of horror lol. Best advice I can give you is to have that 10k tucked away just in case. Aside of the normal stuff the w12 engine is pretty much bomb proof and if you properly inspect one, or get it inspected, that's as safe as you can be. There have been stressful times along the way and there'll be plenty more but in between it's an experience of a lifetime. Just don't expect a normal car experience, it's not. You get one turn on this merry go round so the question is: do you want to pay 2 grand a week for a car home or sit there buck shee because you had a Bentley?
@steven72764 that's a very expensive question Steven. Depends entirely on the cars. If there's nothing wrong with either then it's just down to price and condition. One could argue either side if they're the same age. One thing I would say is that resale value after a point doesn't really come into it. 35,000 miles of short runs is worse for a big car than 150k of long ones. Personally I'd look at the price and then the cost. Two different things :)

@@BentleyOnABudget-mp8jj Do you reckon the Lucas will free up stuck solenoids too? I am going through similar strange jolts at low speeds.
The wedding went well anyway Nige! Hope all is well doctor
@tattoomycore great news! Aye, all's well mate. Hope you enjoy some of these truly horrific videos pal :)
I am collecting all of your Bentley videos. Just in case I want to get one in spring. Super Video. Thanks
Well done for sorting it out.

Fabulous!! Lmao...Snatch 😂😂😂
