Hi. No, the clear plastic part stays at the main brush.
At the small brush the actual brush part is detachable, but as far as I'm aware you don't have to detach the clear part off the main brush (the one with the roller).

Hi. Technically, the warranty should cover it if you own it only since Christmas. But on the other hand, Dyson seem to be more reliable brand, from what people say
