people don't reliaze the driving dynamics is a safety feature..the vw/skoda cars are really good at.. cars are now coming with high ground clearance and heights.. that completely destroys driving dynamics.. and it affects the breaking of the car.. so if you drive a car and suddenly someone comes on the way.. none of the features will save you.. even adas fails.. if your car has good driving dynamics you can take a cut and apply brakes or move on and it will avoid accidents and won't topple or lose control.. but if you are in car with all the world features and bad driving dynamics then chances of getting into accidents is greatly elevated..
Now a days na bro, dynamics of a car are being ignored. Please want high driving position, tall cars with high ground clearance, boxy designs which will go against vehicle dynamics.
Driving dynamics and good handling are safety features it is a fact and in this aspect Kylaq can be a segment leader in its segment but it can be blessing in disguise for our youngsters because they hardly care for rules and regulations while driving these types of cars while another guy driving a car with descent type power and handling drives in a normal manner.
4:50 I disagree with Hormadz, that Skoda should market it as a hot-hatch compact SUV. Most people are not in the market for a hot hatch. What Skoda wants to do here is numbers, so that will be a mismatch in strategy. They don't have to worry about the hot-hatch lovers, who will naturally gravitate towards it.
Not for the numbers but for display of capabilities and creating an aspirational product in limited numbers (just the way ckd products like kodiaq are sold). For example VRS/ GT version would help market it as a hot hatch for enthusiasts which would reflect in its sales for even 1.0tsi. Point is they would have upper hand in terms of engine and performance which is essential as they can't compete with koreans in terms of technology as development cost would be high and they presently have low scales. So, fitting a 1.5 tsi just in limited numbers might seem like a fantastic idea!
Should sell at least 10k per month, and I hope it happens. It might give VW group the confidence to invest more in India, and we might end up seeing cars like Jetta, Taos, Passat, Atlas etc. All they need are volumes, and a localized MQB evo platform. A locally built jetta will be only slightly more expensive compared to Virtus.
What are you talking about?? 10k are you serious. You know how many sales points you need to have to sell that much qty . They have presence only in large cities
Skoda Kylaq ..the best 👌..Car in Segment ..Service Maintenence package Le lo ..Warranty 4 + 2 = 6 Years le lo ..aur befikar ho Jayo.. 😊 for next 6 Years 😊
They need to get their mid variant right, priced under 10 lacs with all must have and some good to have features and that will definitely give them leverage in the super competitive segment. This will give the customers the tax benefit leverage and the consumer gets a car which future proofs them with most of the features they might need 5-7 years down the line
I don't if you guys covered this I want to highlight this important point Why kylaq is so so important? Because rapid rider with the 1L tsi used to cost about the same more than 4 years ago Other manufacturers have skyrocketed their pricing without adding nothing They just got greedy This move is a step in the balance of consumer value offered vs company profit, which is wildly important to do well This engine is quite something. Even in Kushaq it was going great guns I really wanted to lay my hands on the polo back in the day, with this engine combo at 9L on road Now I can do that with a bigger form factor, no need to worry about misspent taxes Indian roads, whilst still not compromising much on the dynamics. Especially the steering wheel actually. Oh man.
It's forced too I booked htk sonet but was forced to purchase htk o as it has way better central console and defogger and small other features which I wanted but couldn't care for sunroof
It's not people's demand. The companies force them on us. Majority of customers hate sunroof while only few especially women and kids like having them.
In comparison to the 1.0L TSI, it really is thakela. In comparison to the 1.5L NA from Honda too, for that matter. If not compared, it is a decent engine though.
Great job with the interviews during the Kylaq Launch. I genuinely hope Skoda doesn't screw up the pricing strategy and that Skoda can make a compelling case for the customer for all of the Kylaq variants.

Problems with Tier-II and Tier III markets is that there are dealerships but there aren't much service centers. For ex- I have stayed in Indore and it had very limited service centers for Skoda. A friend of mine had an Octavia and she encountered issues and there were limited service centers in it. For luxury cars in Indore, they have be sent to other cities for maintenance. A friend of mine also had a Skoda in Meerut and his car for maintenance purposes had to be sent to New Delhi so from a consumer's POV, it should be a key issue because it really is a hassle.
Top model may cost 14-15 lakh on road ... Only Top model has all the features shown by skoda so far. Lower variant don't have 17inch alloy wheels, sunroof, 10inch touch screen, Digital Instrument cluster, Rear AC, Rear Armrests, and also 2-3 color to choose from.
I am a proud Kushaq 1.5 Monte Carlo owner for past 2 years. I don't mind its size at all because I know there are lot of other things this car's superior than its competitors. Most importantly safety and the way it drives. You'll never feel boring driving this one. 1.5 is a fantastic engine. Driving dynamics, handling etc. are not just fun features to have. These should be considered as safety features. I don't understand the obsession with the panaromic sunroof. The short one is fine. I agree with the point that the 1 litre Kushaq might be affected with this.

I think 3XO's AX5 and Kylaq's Signature Plus will be strong competitors to consider. Choose 3XO if you’re looking for higher ground clearance, extra rear legroom, a refined rear design, dual climate control, and Adrenox features. Opt for Kylaq if you prefer more boot space, a striking front design, no necessary sunroof.( These are variant based)
Hope this time AT is available from base model, I bouth Rapid AT at end of its production, the price gap at that time between Kushaq didn't make sense.
I might agree with this assessment. But then how may Laura's were sold? If they can sell more of Kylaq's spare parts will be more easily accessible and will improve the service quality...economies of scale..and I see they have a focus on improving the service.
Superbly said 22:38, Sir !! In my opinion the Germans are car makers and others sell a gadget in the name of a car !! Its Irony that a whole lot of people in the name of wanting to buy a car and end up looking for cosmetic features and end up choosing a gadget car. When a car is meant to carry the lives, emotions of the people on the road, one should choose a real car and not look for features of a gadget. Many brands make so much fuss about features rather than the cars drivability and because people while in the show room think its a gadget they end up purchasing a one with features, Who every wants to buy a real car, should give highest weightage (80%) for the drivability, driving dynamics and how it feels when you drive it on road and how much confidence it brings in you. I still love the polo .. Its 1.2 ltr tsi dsg engine was a hoot to drive . Cant say the same for diluted 1ltr 3clydr tsi engine . And polo looked timeless
I think thr sub 4 m segment with 7.89 pricing plus increased dealership will increase the foot fall into the Skoda showrooms and that should eventually help the entire brand as Octavia is also expected to come next year so that should have everything for someone 🙂😀
Sub4m has engine capacity limits as well. For petrol it's capped at 1.2L, for diesels it is 1.5L. That's why Thar RWD gets a 1.5L diesel engine instead of the 2.2L so it could get tax benefits. Mini Cooper on the other hand doesn't get any tax benefits even though it is sub4m in length because it comes with 1.5L or 2.0L petrol engines.
VW Škoda cars are really fun cars which would put a smile on driver’s face. However in India it’s not Driver but a family who purchases car. The company needs to think features which the kids, wife and siblings etc would love
1 liter 3 cylinder Turbocharged Engine at starting price of 7.89 lakhs EX showroom if one has to consider the on road price then it will come up to 9.3 lakhs approximately and varies as per different states registration charges. So 9.3 lakhs only for base model which mostly people wont go for as it may come with very basic features and wont look attractive. So eventually people will end up spending close to 10 lakhs or may even go past it added to that the cost of maintenance , service, reliability, mileage does not look so appealing. People are missing the gimmick of pricing where they are looking at the top model but the price shown is of base variant. Only time will determine the success of this product based on the after sales and service and I hope this does not have to be too heavy on the owners pocket as the previous ones. One thing got to give it to Skoda for offering a turbocharge engine in such a reasonable price provided one buys a base variant.
Seems great combination.. Only likely flaw, Light/Dipper lever shud be on right side while wiper lever on left for left side driving car market like India
I was surprised by Mr. Hormazd Sorabjee’s remarks in this podcast 26:25. He mentioned that roof rails in India are purely aesthetic and don't need to be practical, and also suggested that cars here don’t need to meet the same rigorous quality benchmarks as in Europe, like withstanding 200 million kilometers in -50°C conditions. It felt like he overlooked the efforts made by companies committed to building high-quality cars and educating Indian consumers on what a truly reliable vehicle should offer. As a journalist, I expected a more balanced view that recognized these contributions to the industry.
He is absolutely right. What's the point of testing a car in -50 degree if it's going to run in India. If anything they should test at +50 degrees and flood conditions. Perhaps they didn't and their dsg failed with that dry clutch and water damage.
He said that in regards to huge development costs the testing (of features, components) brings to the company. In the previous Skoda/VW podcast he mentioned, even for a little change VW HQ demand a lot of money for the development so why bother spending millions of euros on things which would only be used as aesthetic 99% of their life.
Guys only skoda gives turbo direct injection below 10L.. that nobody knows... Indians doesn't knw anything abt car specs😂😂😂.. just gt cars wt others do😅
Skoda India seems to be in loop 😊 features, things they should/can develop for Indian market involves cost, since their sells are low and their sells are low because they are missing a lot of features/things that their peers are selling in India hehe
If vw makes a version based on the kylaq they could make it boxy & muscular like a larger jimmny that would make the car taller & increase space inside. Curvy designs loose out on space. Maruti nailed the Brazza being sub 4 meter it manages to look bigger than it is. Where the likes of kushaq actually looks smaller & less muscular han the brezza
Sir I feel despite creating a good car ,it won't do numbers ,coz there brand is perceived as high maintenance cost, however they are doing lot of localisation...my estimate is 5-10k for 1st month ....then max 2-3k will be there no.
6:29 thakela 😂....I guess NA engine suits are climate conditions... how ever you are right Jimny & breeza feels lackluster....kylak will create buzz with 1.0l engine?
Skoda makes excellent cars. Especially their first generation which were direct transplants from the EU/ UK standards. Nowadays they are engineered to a cost. But they are still good. No doubt. However, I cant help but miss the original Octavia, Laura, Yeti and Superb. They were somewhere else.
Superb episode...loved each word...it's a big commitment from Skoda for Indian market...hope to see them successful and profitable in India and South Asian region...hope they bring ID Buzz van in ICE, EV and Hybrid variants would love to see VW variant of Kylaq as well like VW Up! once was supposed to come, but couldn't make it may be due to high developmental costs...
I think this vehicle will sell about 5,000 pieces a month. (+/- 10%) Anything more and Skoda's service network will get strained. I think Skoda will be happy to get about 1lakh sales in a year, all models combined.
Everybody is wishing great success for Skoda KYLAQ. Because of great Pricing people might try this German Engineered Car. They will develop trust & confidence in Skoda & Kylaq. Only factor which keeps buyers away from VW-Skoda are their high Cost maintenance - Spares & Labour charges. If convinced & they experience German Cars Driving Dynamics & handling they will certainly buy their Cars. Once a VW-Skoda customer they will always buy their upgraded higher models. Until Skoda has to be patient & offer their best. Develop that faith, trust and confidence on Reliability on Brand. But I am optimistic with Base price of ₹7.89 Lacs its a Killer Hot-Hatch (C-SUV) Package. Can kill Top 2 variants of Premium Hatch & Lower 2-3 variants of established Sub 4 Mts C-SUV. Best Wishes to Skoda for great success with 2.50 KYLAQ in Sub 4 Mts Segment.
Only if Kylaq is a success then VW will get its Kylaq counterpart, so not happening anytime early. On the other hand, we know Indians love raised up hatchbacks like Sonet, Brezza etc, so VW is missing an opportunity at the same time !
17:00 why Auto journalist are worried about cannibalisation...Kushaq was itself not doing no. ...now Kylaq will atleast boost sales give Skoda new glory .....i know you asked same question from Skoda offical ...it doesn't matter ... right now skoda is in survival model ....dey just want to sell car's dear
Justbone thing i would like to differ.. 3 cylinder TSI mileage just depends on how you drive.. you easily get 16km/ltr on an indian standard 4 lane highway with all the zig zags and pushing it when you want it. Also in a tier 3 city with no start stop bumper to bumper traffic ,anyday its gonna give you a 14- 15/ltr with any driving styles.
I beg to differ here, most of 250 showrooms are in the city and only city buyers will buy this car and 30 to 40% will be automatic, I have seen single digit mileage with same engine in cities. This car is for cities, tier 2 and Tier 3 cities don't have Skoda showrooms.
I own an 1.0 tsi kushaq, getting mileage is really difficult, 4 people on a highway 70-80 kmph speed 16-17 kmpl is manageable. But on city running traffic it drops drastically to 9-10. The main pain point of the engine is efficiency .
If they succeeded with Kylaq...then they should immediately develop a car at alto price...give manual & imp.... give basic 5 star car without bless whistle
You are right in India *'Joh features Dikhta hai Woh Bikta hai' * Also lot more depends on nos. of that Brands Cars on the Road as it certainly installs confidence among buyers that they are good & would look foolish if they bought the Car. *Word of Mouth plays a very big role in the success of Car & Brands in India.* Hence Customers Satisfaction has to be the top priority for brands image among Indians. Car owners wants Service Stn to listen to their complains + they should feel special & Experience the Best Ownership. Only then Skoda will be able Erase their Service Stn's Erase history of bad experiences, of being arrogant & looting Skoda Car Owners with unethical practises of the past.
Why yeti platform is not been used for Kushaq by Škoda. I don’t understand it is perfect platform for them if dimensions are to be considered atleast for indian market. It’s perfect for increasing their sales volume I bet on that. Maybe I am wrong but dimensions wise Yeti is perfect for Indian market.
KYLAQ was late but am happy that now KYLAQ going to be my second car in 2025... SKODA KYLAQ is much better than VW POLO & AMEO... VW - please get your feet on to ground...

That's why Thar RWD gets a 1.5L diesel engine instead of the 2.2L so it could get tax benefits. Mini Cooper on the other hand doesn't get any tax benefits even though it is sub4m in length because it comes with 1.5L or 2.0L petrol engines.
You can ask GST department on this
I smiled so wide when I say the new episode has dropped 😊
The one and only podcast the car world truly needs.
Sir plz suggest as u already driven the kylaq, manual or automatic?which transmission is fun to drive
How does it compare to the Nissan Magnite? Can we get a comparison video in the future, maybe?
What would be the point of Kushaq 1.5 if they start offering thay engine in Kylaq.
1.5 engine in kylaq will cost similar to kushaq price because no tax benefit of sub 4 meter car and high cost of import on 1.5 tsi engine.
Guys only skoda gives turbo direct injection below 10L.. that nobody knows... Indians doesn't knw anything abt car specs😂😂😂.. just gt cars wt others do😅
19:25 Cant agree more with Sergius, its Koreans who spoilt the choice and made more appliances
One primary reason for vw grp struggling in India is the issues with the initial lot of cars launched in india 2.0 programme. They made a mess of it.
Skoda India seems to be in loop 😊 features, things they should/can develop for Indian market involves cost, since their sells are low and their sells are low because they are missing a lot of features/things that their peers are selling in India hehe
How is the part availability and service network of skoda in India?
Why on the top left it says "Includes Paid Promotion" ?
If vw makes a version based on the kylaq they could make it boxy & muscular like a larger jimmny that would make the car taller & increase space inside. Curvy designs loose out on space. Maruti nailed the Brazza being sub 4 meter it manages to look bigger than it is. Where the likes of kushaq actually looks smaller & less muscular han the brezza
Dey hav 4 trims
Classic , Signature signature+ & prestige
Signature+ auto comes at 12 lacs onroad , I m buying
Yes
Super deal 🎉
Not going to happen. It will be 12 lakhs ex showroom which means 14 on road and prestige will be 12.99 ex showroom and 15.5 on road most probably
Sir I feel despite creating a good car ,it won't do numbers ,coz there brand is perceived as high maintenance cost, however they are doing lot of localisation...my estimate is 5-10k for 1st month ....then max 2-3k will be there no.
I love your podcast so much so interesting and insightful a great watch for Auto enthusiast
@2320 The fine balance between knowledge and proficiency in execution is where Europeans and Japanese excel.
Will the VW version Terra come with a GT variation?
Awesome analysis & Brilliant Content 👌🏼🤘🏻💯🚗 Hopefully this does wonders for Skoda and Volkswagen twin thats in development 🤘🏻
What is keeping VWAG from introducing hybrids in India?
6:29 thakela 😂....I guess NA engine suits are climate conditions... how ever you are right Jimny & breeza feels lackluster....kylak will create buzz with 1.0l engine?
Kylaq 1.5 would be love❤❤❤
Right car, Right price and great technology. Should be a success.😊
Superb episode...loved each word...it's a big commitment from Skoda for Indian market...hope to see them successful and profitable in India and South Asian region...hope they bring ID Buzz van in ICE, EV and Hybrid variants
would love to see VW variant of Kylaq as well like VW Up! once was supposed to come, but couldn't make it may be due to high developmental costs...
In 2023 I bought a Kiger CVT. Badly wanted a replacement for my 2016 Ecosport. I hope Skoda VW aren’t too late
Great and makes positive mind for VW and S K O D A👍🏻
I think this vehicle will sell about 5,000 pieces a month. (+/- 10%)
Anything more and Skoda's service network will get strained.
I think Skoda will be happy to get about 1lakh sales in a year, all models combined.
Sensible point
It's going to eat into Nissan Magnite's market share. I would even go as far to say the Kylaq would be it's greatest competitor in this sector.
Magnite is a undercooked, unstable, inferior product.
No
Magnites less price and vfm factor will keep its sales afloat
KYLAQ DEFINITELY GOT THE BEST LOOKS IN THE SEGMENT
SEEMS EUROPEANS ARE FINALLY UNDERSTANDING THE INDIAN MARKET
HOPE THEY CRACK IT WITH THIS PRODUCT
Great Quality sKoDA and good price for sub 4M SUV & low maintenance cost❤❤
Sir what can i expect as a yearly service charge
The main question is how is the after sale service, parts availability
Polo is back in different Avatar❤
I'm confused between Kylaq and Honda Amaze 2024..which one should I buy
Thank you Sergius Sir for appreciating Hyundai
If they succeeded with Kylaq...then they should immediately develop a car at alto price...give manual & imp.... give basic 5 star car without bless whistle
200% not possible and they won't do. They are not maruti. Lol.
God should bless the whistle 😂
You are right in India *'Joh features Dikhta hai Woh Bikta hai' *
Also lot more depends on nos. of that Brands Cars on the Road as it certainly installs confidence among buyers that they are good & would look foolish if they bought the Car.
*Word of Mouth plays a very big role in the success of Car & Brands in India.*
Hence Customers Satisfaction has to be the top priority for brands image among Indians.
Car owners wants Service Stn to listen to their complains + they should feel special & Experience the Best Ownership.
Only then Skoda will be able Erase their Service Stn's Erase history of bad experiences, of being arrogant & looting Skoda Car Owners with unethical practises of the past.
Vw group shall start r&d in india for reducing costs in order to continue in india market.
❤❤ waiting for VW version❤
When hatchback/Fabia is launching ?
Why yeti platform is not been used for Kushaq by Škoda. I don’t understand it is perfect platform for them if dimensions are to be considered atleast for indian market. It’s perfect for increasing their sales volume I bet on that. Maybe I am wrong but dimensions wise Yeti is perfect for Indian market.
Who makes money if manufacturer also does not make money and customer pays upwards of 10lakh? Only government makes money
Can anyone using Škoda since a long time tell is the ASS? What is the spare parts situation vis a vis MS?
Review of bmw m1000r competition please. Hyper naked
KYLAQ was late but am happy that now KYLAQ going to be my second car in 2025...
SKODA KYLAQ is much better than VW POLO & AMEO...
VW - please get your feet on to ground...
Seems like Skoda VW is doing a much better than many French n Japanese Automobiles......
Down the line from today maybe after 10years people will talk about the car called kylaq that completely changed the car market for skoda .
Typically, US and EU automotive companies SUV/Sedan design and development costs around 1-1.1B USD, I wonder how much Kylaq costed VW group.
The Volkswagen Skoda should look closely at their service and maintenance cost and service outlets.
