This is your match 2 opponent. You were right, it was the jankiest thing I could've imagined. Watching it now, maybe I should've been more aggressive. In game 3 getting me empty handed was huge because I had the denial. Good games Seth keep up the great work!
I think if you want to min-max information, you can just put your caverns and territorys on spirit in the first game, all the zubera are spirita and it does not completly reveal what you are doing in the same way at first.
Soon his transformation to a super villain will be complete and the world will require a team of equally insane rogue brewers to take him and his mad creations down!
Skip the video until 13:38 Seth doesn't properly hold priority to maximize his Zuberas until this game. Only watch the first 13 minutes if you want motivation to stab your eyes. After this game, Seth consistently uses his Zuberas properly. Edit: He screws up the priority hold again at 35:28, but he states "oh I should have done that in response to the triggers". Also he wins the game several seconds afterward anyway.
He also saced the blue one last often for almost no scry value. you want to sac the blue one first then the others so that you get as much scry as possible.
Random dorks are indeed Death Shadow's greatest enemies. They really struggle with go wide strategies because it's tough for them to punch damage through while preserving their meager life total. The Staticaster is in the sb to deal with Lingering Souls precisely because of this, but there's no clean answer to recurrable 1/2 Zuberas.
I remember when people used to play zubera decks with Devouring Greed. It was good then and it's better now with the mass reanimation spells for cheap.
Eh, I don't know. It might be a back-up when you know that there'll be a lot of graveyard hate. But to maindeck it alongside the GY plan? First off, it makes our mana situation even more iffy (double black is now required as well as double white and green). Secondly, it will work as a finisher usually only after a Rally and once you Rally with this deck you're generally already winning anyway. But it never hurts to try so go ahead, give it a spin, compare the two builds and come back to us with the result.
Quite so. Someone on the deck tech video inadvertently drew that comparison by suggesting the (banned) Second Sunrise for this. It's Eggs but with Kami. Let's call this ... Pumpkins, the spookiest of foodstuff.
As a kid, my first prerelease was Champions of Kamigawa. I loved zuberas since then, but they were never good enough to leave my kitchen table. This deck means a lot! Thank you, Seth.
Oh how lovely it is to see Seth winning with such jank in such obscene ways and hear him cackle at his opponents' disbelief ❤ Also, inb4 Five-Color Zubera Rally becomes the new 5c Humans and wins an SCG Modern event.
I used to play a home brewed Zubera/Devouring Greed pauper deck with Elder Pine of Jukai back in the days. It was super fun. People didn't compute how the Zuberas worked and just attacked letting me mass block and reap the benefits. It was not top tier by any means, but I hold it as a fond memory.
Back when I played Kamigawa, I attempted a Zubera tribal...over a decade later, I'm so proud to see a workable deck finally. I almost want to build it now lol
Thank you for this! This is amazing, brings back many memories! I remembered Zuberas for some reason this morning and quickly typed in "Against the Odds Zubera", was almost as euphoric as you! Feels like the deck lacks some good one-drops. How about Stitcher's Supplier, maybe a couple of aether vials for faster, easier and surprising Zubera flooding, Codex Shredder? Also Spawning Pits should be more consistent (spawns 2/2's), easier to cast and harder to destroy than Bloodthrone (won't be able to reanimate them thou). And the most amazing addition here may be Life from the Loam!! Maybe we need to diversify the free sac outlets (i'm being paranoid about Viscera Seer extraction :D). Hand disruption in the SB for Blood Moon and RIP... Wear-Tear or Engineered Explosives - super versatile card, also helps Zuberas do their thing :D. I guess there's no way to revive Rally or Return from the graveyard with some other card in the graveyard (Eternal Witness + Golgari Thug...), Smallpox, Grapple with the Past, Barter in Blood, Bloodbond March, Shirei and a bunch of other stuff have potential to make the 75. Thanks for the fun, cheers!
This was a blast to both watch and experience. Also, if we eliminate the land base, this list is very, very budget friendly. How do you think (and by you, I mean the comment section) we could go about making this list more friendly on the wallet for those who don't want to shell out for caverns and fetches?
Spawning Pit might be a better sac outlet. Only two colorless mana and probably harder to remove. It can also make tokens to chump block with or be used for convoke.
I think you need some Snapcasters. If you mill your Return to the Ranks or Rally the Ancestors, you can Snapcast it and tap it to convoke, and it'll loop with the rest of the Zuberas to Snapcast something every time you return your stuff.
Seth, I know this is not the most appropriate place to say this, but PLEASE try Garruk/Nissa tribal and Jace tribal! We count on you to make planeswalker strategies competitive in Modern. Also, a revision of your Gideon tribal would be insane with the new rule.
Blue zubera Defs gives the deck waaay more resilience than a cursory glance would suggest. An aether vial might be good for a similar gameplan to merfolk. When you think about it they're actually pretty similar decks. You're care about a specific creature type that's low to the ground, boosting each other in terms of value & once you reach a critical mass you go for the "combo kill". Zubera actually have the added benefit of being able to shift gears into something way more grindy though because of the sheer quantity of tokens the green ones can spit out & also the gotcha kill potential of rallying out of nowhere if there isn't graveyard hate. Surprisingly dope deck yo
While I was waiting for this video to come out, I decided to test a version of this deck. I ended up also using rally the ancestors as a finisher (that card is so good in this deck) but I decided to use golgari thug to mill cards and eternal witness to get them back from the graveyard. I also decided on Immortal Servitude rather than return from the ranks (although looking at it now, I really like the interaction between it and the tokens you get) I also crammed in a couple copies of shared animosity just for the lulz ;)
Really good video. I like the way you build the Deck. I normaly played with Shirei, Rally and Mirror Entity. I think I'll get some of those M15 envoke cards :D Zuberas are fun :D
You gotta practice a little more on this deck. For instance at 44:20 you shouldn't have sacrificed zuberas on end step, you sac them on your turn so you can maximize damage output. That being said. This deck is amazing 😂
I used to play Zuberas and when they did well, it was easy to recognize their power, however, at the time, they lacked the support pieces to compete at a high level. There is nothing "janky" about Zuberas. They could, with the right support, rival Slivers in power.
Yeah, instead of Rally style cards, it uses cards like "Undying Evil" to sacrifice the same single Zubera multiple times a turn. It's generally called "Zubera Aristocrats"
We could use our cards in a way to draw large amounts, create many tokens, and deal tons of damage. Instead, we will use them in a way to choose between one among those three options.
Igunashio Dion As mentioned above, the deck needs to reanimate to win. It's great getting Zubera in play, but it needs the double white to actually win.
Yeah, I know, that's why I'm suggesting it. With vial on two you can play most of your creatures through a blood moon, even the satyr to fill your graveyard, and he could drop a couple of unclaimed territories for a few more plains, or a plains and a swamp.
Keep priority and Stack all the Sacrifice Triggers. It's the most effective possibility. With 3 Zuberas you get, for example, 3 Cards, 3 Damage and 3 Token
I think this deck needs one or two eternal witnesses. They allow the deck to actually have a good way to return the rallys and return to the ranks. This also lets the grisly savages and satyr wayfinders help find the rallys and returns aswell.
Mmm, there's a lot of milling over here. Why not include one copy of Snapcaster? You can also name Wizard with Cavers and Unclaimed Territory for the casting cost.
Snapcaster to chain Ranks with convoke, and also run Qasali Pridemage in the side to value up the Wizard call. You could also run Fatal Push, main or side, with so easy you can active revolt with this deck. It's soo sweet.
oh my god you have turned the format upside down. Half-tempted to buy a bunch of zuberas just in case the price skyrockets XD XD Edit: also now the word ZUBERA ZUBERA ZUBERA is rattling around the inside of my head endlessly
as much as i like saytr wayfinder i think you should cut them for 4 eternal witness you have 4 rallys in the deck one more mana isnt gonna break the bank and you get back most of the spells you milled away from salvage, you can also do a 2 wayfinder 2 witness split, but witness is really good for this deck
Alex Nastuk he needs still the mana fixing the satyr gives, i think he should play 2 witness still but cutting the gather thepack wich i consider medium at best here. Also wanted to mention devouring greed instead the 2 mana vampire, although maybe is a bit hard on the mana
but i feel 4 can be really bad if we draw too many and mill away potential rally/returns if you have 2 wayfinders 2 witness and 2 gather its a good mix because if you look back at many games its not always mana issues is that you have milled away your game winners, also witness isnt limited to just lands like wayfinder and gather can grab 2 creatures, i get the 4 mill from wayfinder is essential but not the only means of the deck, Grisly salvage atleast gets you a land or creature and can be played EOT
This is your match 2 opponent. You were right, it was the jankiest thing I could've imagined. Watching it now, maybe I should've been more aggressive. In game 3 getting me empty handed was huge because I had the denial. Good games Seth keep up the great work!
donate $1 to charity every time Seth says Zubera.
What a wholesome comment.
This deck is secretly busted
I had never heard the word “Zubera” in my life, and now I’ve heard it 1000 times.
Watching me get destroyed in the first game was more fun than expected
I think if you want to min-max information, you can just put your caverns and territorys on spirit in the first game, all the zubera are spirita and it does not completly reveal what you are doing in the same way at first.
With the amount of times Seth said "zubera", I was starting to get some "bolt the birds, draw some cards" flashbacks.
And in this exhibit, we see Seth slowly losing his mind
Soon his transformation to a super villain will be complete and the world will require a team of equally insane rogue brewers to take him and his mad creations down!
Should I invest in Brainiac tokens now?
The Green Robby it's either that or goat tokens.
Skip the video until 13:38
Seth doesn't properly hold priority to maximize his Zuberas until this game. Only watch the first 13 minutes if you want motivation to stab your eyes. After this game, Seth consistently uses his Zuberas properly.

Bryan Tan thanks for the heads up. It was painful to watch the first game..
Bryan Tan much appreciated
Literally saved my life
As I was watching it I'm just sitting here saying out loud, "Oh my fucking God. Oh my fucking God. Are you kidding me right now."
Adolfo Berríos Modern players may have tech for 1/1s, but nobody expects the 1/2s!
My favorite quote of 2017 "I guess Zuberas."
I think this is your greatest creation.
Yup, fair and combo and useful at the same time.
Seth's Magnum Opus, the vegetable-named crazed brewer's vilest stew yet.
Best Against the Odds in a while. Sweet deck that wins on its own merit, not because of blood moon.
Sac a Zubera, sac a Zubera, sac a Zubera, sac a Zubera... I feel like I've heard this Swan song before.
I remember when people used to play zubera decks with Devouring Greed. It was good then and it's better now with the mass reanimation spells for cheap.
Devouring Greed seems sick for this deck. What would you take out for it?
Bryan T yeah I played that it was great
Trockenmatt the 2 bloodthrones
Eh, I don't know. It might be a back-up when you know that there'll be a lot of graveyard hate. But to maindeck it alongside the GY plan? First off, it makes our mana situation even more iffy (double black is now required as well as double white and green). I think that could replace blood throne vampire.
My god, its...it's eggs. You've made eggs.
Seth is always trying to remake Eggs.
Not even lying I was like “is this going to have faiths reward” when I was watching the tech
Quite so. Someone on the deck tech video inadvertently drew that comparison by suggesting the (banned) Second Sunrise for this. It's Eggs but with Kami. Let's call this ... Pumpkins, the spookiest of foodstuff.
It's like Eggs that doesn't take 15 minutes to combo off.
So it's Eggs but with out the best part of Eggs
New drinking game: Take a shot every time he says Zubera.
You win if you don't die of alcohol poisoning.
As a kid, my first prerelease was Champions of Kamigawa. I loved zuberas since then, but they were never good enough to leave my kitchen table. This deck means a lot! Thank you, Seth.
love how much fun you are having! this is what MTG is about!
Crushing your opponents' hopes and dreams with jank, exactly!
Seth is so absurdly good at brewing decks. Like, sure some of them are duds, but sometimes he just creates a new archetype out of thin air.
Samuel Blonstein he created the start of God pharohs gift, monument, and approach.
Loving this deck. Thought I was done playing any other format but Commander but this deck is changing my mind
Except for the lands it's not even that expensive.
Precisely what I was thinking!
Can someone please win a grand prix with this deck. Also Is thus even a playable deck without the lands?
Josh Lohner you cold Jank the hell out of it yes
Josh Lohner will it win not as consistently
MyMike1119 I'm thinking I have to try.
I think zuberas will carry it through
Like I said you can try but it’d be hard
My friend showed me this video years ago and this is when I became a mtggoldfish fan. Thanks seth!
This is FAR AND AWAY my favorite Against the Odds of all time!! Absolutely hilarious, and straight domination. Fantastic Seth!
This was the sweetest one in a while! I love trying to make Rally / Return work in Modern.
Zubera Word Count: 3,032
Flat Earth Talk Wait really?
Flat Earth Talk I tip my hat to you sir. That is true devotion.
One of the reasons I have a lot of love for the Kamigawa block- you get away with madness like this xD
Oh how lovely it is to see Seth winning with such jank in such obscene ways and hear him cackle at his opponents' disbelief ❤
Also, inb4 Five-Color Zubera Rally becomes the new 5c Humans and wins an SCG Modern event.
Woww!! One of the best against the odds in a while. It's amazing how this deck seems to be able to compete with tier one decks.
This might be my favorite homebrew deck in awhile! Love the Kamigawa nostalgia here, it really takes me back.
I used to play a home brewed Zubera/Devouring Greed pauper deck with Elder Pine of Jukai back in the days. It was super fun. People didn't compute how the Zuberas worked and just attacked letting me mass block and reap the benefits. It was not top tier by any means, but I hold it as a fond memory.

sacrifice zubera draw a card,
sacrifice zubera draw a card,
sacrifice zubera draw a card,
sacrifice zubera draw a card,
....
Sacrifice our Zuberas, draw some cards.
Sacrifice our swans, draw some cards.
Hit our zuberas, draw some cards
Sacrifice our cards, draw some Zuberas
Zubera our cards, draw some Swans
Doel Johon I'm dying😂
This is my favorite Against the Odds all time just for Seth's uncontrollable laughter over the masterful jank of this deck :D
This is my favourite against the odds deck hands down
Thank you for this! Thanks for the fun, cheers!
this was the most majestic thing ive ever seen! i love kamigawa block. im building 5 color spirits in EDH
Why relic of Progenitus in the sideboard if you yourself use the graveyard? How about Nihilist Spellbomb or Tormod's Crypt?
I think he stacked the scry and draw triggers not correctly every time, you could also sac token to scry deeper and find rally with blue zubera.
This was my favourite episode yet.
Zubera surprisingly good at blocking 1/1s.
This deck is actually beautiful
"Sactacular" is now my favorite word. Didn't catch it when this first came out, but almost a year later, my life is complete
If I had $450, this would be my first Modern deck. This deck seems like it would be so much fun. I'd be interested in seeing you play this a bit more.
Tag out the Caverns for a different five color land and you cut off like half the price
David Kadonsky if you don't mind inconsistency replace the cavern of souls with like 1 of each basic and save like 230 dollars
This was a blast to both watch and experience.
Also, if we eliminate the land base, this list is very, very budget friendly. How do you think (and by you, I mean the comment section) we could go about making this list more friendly on the wallet for those who don't want to shell out for caverns and fetches?
Wow just wow that is some impresive performance, congrats seth
"You know what we're naming?"
"iiit's Zubera"
honestly I like this deck waaaaaaaaaay more than any other deck ever!!! having alot of fun watching this :D
Spawning Pit might be a better sac outlet. Only two colorless mana and probably harder to remove. It can also make tokens to chump block with or be used for convoke.
Zubera surprise. Watch zuberas fly up in value.
Definitely on MODO at least, in paper it would take a tournament win, I think.
Seth, This deck was super fun to watch!
I think you need some Snapcasters. If you mill your Return to the Ranks or Rally the Ancestors, you can Snapcast it and tap it to convoke, and it'll loop with the rest of the Zuberas to Snapcast something every time you return your stuff.

Also, a revision of your Gideon tribal would be insane with the new rule.
I believe he did a revision shortly after the change on his stream, should be on the replay channel
This deck scoops really hard to chalice of the void on X = 2
Um......no? Plays the zuberas in hand to put them in grave then rally has cmc 4 when x=2
That was indeed some “sactacular action!”
This was a blast to watch!
Blue zubera Defs gives the deck waaay more resilience than a cursory glance would suggest. An aether vial might be good for a similar gameplan to merfolk. Seth. Just an fyi. You can maintain priority on the death triggers and sac them all at once to trigger them all at once.
Yeah, we figured that out by the second game :)
@ 27:44 Allies vs. Zubera, 10/10 would watch again!
This deck looks like an absolute nightmare to play in paper form.
Chris Vieau I’m gonna try it
Really good video. I like the way you build the Deck. I normaly played with Shirei, Rally and Mirror Entity. I think I'll get some of those M15 envoke cards :D Zuberas are fun :D
Love you, Seth. This is fantastic hahaha!
Agreed on both accounts. These kinds of videos are simply amazing to watch.
I giggled every time you said Unclaimed Territory on Zubera every time and still don't know why.
I'm gonna need a video of Seth just saying 'Zubera' a thousand times.
This video is pretty close :)
Two Wear/Tear in sideboard of the deck which nearly scoops up against Blood moon/Rest in peace/Leylines of the void? Someone has balls of steel.
Get your foil Zubera now, boys and girls.
inb4 even regular Zuberas shoot up to $5 a piece ;>
This is by far the best Against the Odds ever made.
I couldn't stop laughing. Seth, you're the jankiest of the jankiest.
This is now my favorite deck ever made.
Missed opportunity to call it Zuberally?
I'm wondering if it would be worth trying to fit in 1-2 Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist or even Pious Evangel//Wayward Disciple.
You gotta practice a little more on this deck. For instance at 44:20 you shouldn't have sacrificed zuberas on end step, you sac them on your turn so you can maximize damage output.
That being said. This deck is amazing 😂
Please revisit this! Bring back the Zubera!!!!
You should play this next week on stream
I used to play Zuberas and when they did well, it was easy to recognize their power, however, at the time, they lacked the support pieces to compete at a high level. There is nothing "janky" about Zuberas. They could, with the right support, rival Slivers in power.
Zubera! A spicy janky masterpiece!
Seth's Magnum Opus.
I like how close it looks to pauper zubera
Yeah, but the key cards are modern-only, being the mass reanimation.
There's a pauper zubera deck?
Jeffrey Denenberg there is now
Yeah, instead of Rally style cards, it uses cards like "Undying Evil" to sacrifice the same single Zubera multiple times a turn. It's generally called "Zubera Aristocrats"
We could use our cards in a way to draw large amounts, create many tokens, and deal tons of damage.
Instead, we will use them in a way to choose between one among those three options.
Bryan Tan He started holding priority like 14 minutes into the video.
Would impact tremors make this deck more explosive? I mean with rally and the green zubera... maybe?
My favorite word for Seth to mispronounce is 'viscera.' It's kind of adorable how badly he mangled it.
I love how Seth never misses a chance to say Zubera.
Seth gives his opponents nightmares where they wake up screaming, “NOT THE JANK NOT THE JANK NOOOOOOOOOOOO”!
19:53 seth sounds like an arangatang
Easily one of the best Against the Odds of all time. Fuck, I love Magic.
Seth you have a lot of two drops, maybe you could include aether vial as anti-blood moon tech, and cut some territories for more basics
I would like to give this a go as a budget option. Thoughts on Ancient Ziggy as a sub for the Caverns? And any other thoughts on lands?
Zuberas are very cool twist on aristocrats in Pauper :)
Snapcaster might be good here to recast the mass resurrection spells. Not sure why CoCo isn't being played either.
I would use eternal witness oro something to return rally or return instead of bloodthrone vampire
I love zubera. It's hilarious that it worked so well
Man, this deck is so absolutely mega sweet!
This against the odds needs to come back!
This deck is super spicy, I would make it in paper but the lands are expensive
Man what I wouldnt give to see the look on the face of a death's shadow player who loses to Zubera tribal
Me too!
One Snapcaster or Eternal Witness could be interesting.
Snapcaster to chain Ranks with convoke, and also run Qasali Pridemage in the side to value up the Wizard call. You could also run Fatal Push, main or side, with so easy you can active revolt with this deck. It's soo sweet.
I love it when Seth says Spicer because it's nicer than saying worse
oh my god you have turned the format upside down. Half-tempted to buy a bunch of zuberas just in case the price skyrockets XD XD
Edit: also now the word ZUBERA ZUBERA ZUBERA is rattling around the inside of my head endlessly
zubera count anyone, how many times he says it?
Blaze482Gaming 83.
darren trivedi Bless.
darren trivedi no way. More like 2000
I drank every time he said "zubera," am now dead.
Blaze482Gaming IT'S OVER 90000!
dawn to dusk? works with the mill aspect and saves you from death shadow.
as much as i like saytr wayfinder i think you should cut them for 4 eternal witness you have 4 rallys in the deck one more mana isnt gonna break the bank and you get back most of the spells you milled away from salvage, you can also do a 2 wayfinder 2 witness split, but witness is really good for this deck
Alex Nastuk he needs still the mana fixing the satyr gives, i think he should play 2 witness still but cutting the gather thepack wich i consider medium at best here.
Also wanted to mention devouring greed instead the 2 mana vampire, although maybe is a bit hard on the mana
Cutting all of them is silly but I agree that having some number of them (or maybe Noxious Revival?) might be a good back-up plan.
disagree. the wayfinders were really good in this deck.
You're right he needs a couple e witness but satyr wayfinder is not the cut, the cut is gather the pack I think
but i feel 4 can be really bad if we draw too many and mill away potential rally/returns if you have 2 wayfinders 2 witness and 2 gather its a good mix because if you look back at many games its not always mana issues is that you have milled away your game winners, also witness isnt limited to just lands like wayfinder and gather can grab 2 creatures, i get the 4 mill from wayfinder is essential but not the only means of the deck, Grisly salvage atleast gets you a land or creature and can be played EOT
