Oh girl, you have a Rhiannon sister :) I also named my daughter after this song -- BUT also for the Welsh Goddess that Rhiannon is. The story of Rhiannon is so tragic and then is so sweet.... Tell your Mom you have a Rhiannon sister! :)

Rhiannon is a figure from Welsh mythology. The album was called "Fleetwood Mac" because they basically reinvented itself at this point in their career - they started off as a bluesy band back in the late 1960s. As for the rhythm section, those are the band's leaders, Mick Fleetwood and John "Mac" McVie. Next? "The Chain" - IMO the band's masterpiece. Or "Tusk", their left-field oddity. (PS - don't knock falling in love with a witch!)

Fleetwood Mac was a highly respected blues rock band before Buckingham/Nicks. The Peter Green era is probably the best example of this. You should listen to “Oh Well” or the original “Black Magic Woman” to see what they used to sound like.

  • @grytlappar
    @grytlappar 5 місяців тому +7

Stevie Nicks wrote both of those songs - Dreams and Rhiannon. Genius. She launched a solo career too in the early 80's because she was writing so many songs (as were the others), that she didn't have an outlet for. She was (is) really successful solo as well. Obviously. Steve Nicks rulez all.

Like others have mentioned, "Gold Dust Woman" has a similar feel to it and I fully believe you guys would love it just as much. For something really different, you should listen to "Tusk." There's never been another song like it that I've heard. It's interesting that you noticed the blues influence because Fleetwood Mac was originally considered a blues band when it was founded by British artist Peter Green in 1967, who was influenced by American blues artists. Their sound evolved through the years as they changed members several times, but the rhythm section never changed. McVie and Fleetwood are just naturally bluesy players.

There always seemed to be "Stevie songs", "Lindsey songs" and "Christine songs". My favourites were usually the Stevie songs, so when she started putting out her own albums, I was in heaven. They are all amazing, however. For me, this was always Fleetwood Mac's first album, as it was the first album with this line-up of musicians. Thanks for this review. They are absolutely wonderful and so are you. I love you guys! :)

Love your comments on the rhythm section. mick FLEETWOOD & john MCvie is what makes it Fleetwood Mac😉 They are also the only band members, who made it from start to finish. First, the blues era with Peter Green, then Danny Kirwan, then the mid period with Bob Welch, and finally the Buckingham/Nicks era.

Fun Fact: You may have heard Santana's "Black Magic Woman" (if not, well, duh!)... Would it surprise you to know that it was actually first released by Fleetwood Mac?! You were surprised that this was FM's 10th album... that's because they were very different before. They were led by Peter Green, and it was a much more Blues-oriented band. On UA-cam, you can find a Live version of "Black Magic Woman" by Fleetwood Mac that features Peter, who actually wrote that song,... it is amazingly good!

I LOVE FM so much. I've seen them in concert but it was back in the 90's when Lindsey wasn't with them. I've seen Stevie Nicks twice. She is phenomonal. My gypsy Queen 👸 💖
She is my idol. No matter what mood I'm in she has a song that goes with my mood. This song is a song about a Celtic witch. *****You guys MUST watch the 1976 Midnight Special live performance. It is so amazing!****!!!
Also, Fleetwood Mac has been through 3 different versions of themselves. They started out as a blues band in England. That is why you are picking up on that blues sound. Stevie & Lindsey had their own thing going on in San Fransisco. Mick Fleetwood learned about Lindsey and offered him a spot in the band in 1974. Lindsey responded with "not without my girlfriend who sings". That was Stevie, of course. Then magic happened and you have a new version of the rock sound of FM. Between Lindsey, Stevie and Christine they wrote so many incredible songs. This one was written by Stevie. Believe it or not with all their amazing songs the ONLY one that went #1 was "Dreams" written by Stevie. I could go on and on. Huge fan here! 😁

A refrain mean, "to repeat", and in music can, at times, a refrain can be synonymous with a Chorus, because it is a part of the song that is repeats repeatedly, usually between verses. However, a refrain can be just 1 or more lines that repeat, but it doesn't HAVE to be what's considered THE chorus. To elaborate, "a chorus is a refrain, or a part of a song that is repeated after a verse" (and often contains the song title). A refrain may also be used in the beginning or ending of a song to say the same thing over and over again. I hope that made sense.

Yes, I love Hypnotized. God knows I have listened to that song more than 100 times. The dreamy guitar work and Bob Welch's haunting voice are out this world. I doubt that post-bob welch Fleetwood Mac could re-create that atmosphere.

Nick, you may already know that the two times Fleetwood Mac toured without Lindsey they had to multiple guitarist to cover just what Lindsey plays. Further proving your point of how great and under-rated he truly is. ALSO, when Stevie sang Flretwood Mac songs on her solo tours she employed several players to cover his parts. Thought it might be a fun fact.

Would also recommend "Gold Dust Woman", but "Silver Springs" live is fíre. Basically the whole of "The Dance" album (which is live from 1997) is top notch. For a Lindsey Buckingham led song that is less mainstream check out "I'm So Afraid" again in particular from The Dance.

Fleetwood Mac started as an English blues band, led by Peter Green. Check out songs like Dr Brown. Gary Moore put out 2 blues albums dedicated to Peter Green! Perhaps their masterpiece was a piece of music called Albertros. After Green and another member left the band, Mick Fleetwood, John Macvie and his wife Christine moved to the US. A few new members, then more changes, and eventually the band that became the band most people know.

good to see the youngsters study their history...
    recommended, off the beaten path:
"Sons Of Champlin" - Album: 'Loosen Up Naturally' 1969 - Songs: '1982-A', then 'Get High'; after that pick any song on the album.
"The Sons of Champlin are an American rock band, from Marin County in the San Francisco-Bay area, formed in 1965. They are one of the 1960s San Francisco bands, along with Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and Moby Grape."
If you are interested in another case of underappreciated 'san francisco sound' greatness,
I think you would appreciate the band/album "It's a Beautiful Day" (1969) and the songs 'Hot Summer Day' (soft), 'Wasted Union Blues' (hard)...(they had a hit with "White Bird" but you can wait on that until or if you decide you want to hear more)

Fleetwood Mac needed a guitarist. John McVie heard the Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham album and liked it. He asked Lindsey to join the band. He agreed, but only if Stevie could join as well.
It was a package deal. That began Stevie's involvement with Fleetwood Mac.

I love the way Mick Fleetwood does the snare hit on the four most of the time, but throws in the occasional hit on the three to spice things up. Great song and I'm with you on most of your comments, but the most criminally underrated guitarist is Bill Nelson (not Willie). Check out Sound Track or Crying To The Sky by his 70s band Be Bop Deluxe and you'll see why.

You can't beat John Mc Vie on bass, he always keeps it all held together as everybody else goes all around the world with voice and instrument ,McVie brings them all home again..... Lindsey is my favorite guitarist, and everyone else in as Ryan always says Fire!....

Guys ! You need to hear the live version of that. She really shows off her voice....So powerful ! Lyndsey tears it up on that Guitar solo, and it clashes so beautifully with her voice ! The rhythm section shined .This performance will blow you away. This was their greatest performance ever IMO . It was one of the best perfomances of any group ever. The sound quality was great. It was live on TV. the "Midnight Special "in 1976. It was their studio version ON STEROIDS ! I was there to see that performance .ua-cam.com/video/zuTzAha1t80/v-deo.html
